U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced new designs for green cards and Employment Authorization Documents (EADs.)

USCIS began issuing the redesigned cards on Monday, January 30, 2023. The federal agency said in a statement that the cards are redesigned every 3 or 5 years with the goal of improving security and preventing fraud and counterfeiting.
What’s new about green cards and employment authorization?
New permanent resident card and EAD designs include:
• State-of-the-art technology that continues to safeguard national security and improve service for customers.
• Detailed and improved illustrations.
• New tactile printing that integrates better with artwork.
• Improved optically variable ink.
• New high-security holographic images on the front and back of the cards.
• A new layer reveal feature with a main window in the subsequent photo box; and
• Data fields are displayed in different places than in previous versions.
Current cards will remain valid. The last update to the Green Card and employment cards were made in May 2017.
USCIS clarified that, although the cards change design, the cards currently issued are valid. Current cards remain valid until their expiration date (unless otherwise stated.) Finally, the federal agency indicated that in the coming days they will hold a press conference to announce the residence cards and improved work permits.
