RESCATE Y RECOLOCACIÓN DE LAGARTIJAS Y RANAS RESCUE AND RELOCATION OF LIZARDS AND FROGS Una de las iniciativas impulsadas por Hudbay Perú, titular del proyecto Constancia, para la conservación de la biodiversidad ha sido el rescate y relocalización de la “rana acuática jaspeada” Telmatobius marmoratus, que se encuentra en estado vulnerable, según la legislación nacional, así como de la lagartija Liolaemus sp que los científicos consideran que únicamente podría vivir en Chumbivilcas. Luego de dos años de iniciado el plan, Hudbay ha logrado rescatar alrededor de 1,000 ranas y más de 200 lagartijas, de lugares en donde el proyecto Constancia hoy viene ejecutando su fase de construcción, a fin de que sean trasladados a un lugar seguro. Actualmente los trabajos de los especialistas están centrados en el monitoreo y recaptura de las ranas y reptiles relocalizados, con la finalidad de conocer si se han adaptado exitosamente a su nuevo hogar. Recientemente Hudbay ha iniciado el monitoreo de las ranas relocalizadas y se espera obtener resultados muy favorables. One of the initiatives pushed forward by Hudbay Perú, titleholder of the Constancia project, for the conservation of biodiversity, was the rescue and relocation of the marbled water frog (Telmatobius marmoratus) which is listed as a vulnerable species under the national legislation, and the Liolaemus sp lizard, considered by the scientists to be a species that could only survive in Chumbivilcas. Two years after the plan was started, Hudbay has rescued and relocated a total of 1000 frogs and over 200 lizards from locations where the Constancia project is currently executing its construction stage. The specialists are now focused in the monitoring and recapture of the relocated lizards and frogs to determine if they successfully adapted to their new habitat. Recently, Hudbay has started to monitor the relocated frogs and favorable results are expected.
