GALERIE GMURZYNSKA LE MAIN DE PICASSO
South African fashion designer Thebe Magugu created the V&A’s Fashion in Motion fall show in London. The event, which was free to the public, was underwritten by madcap accessories designer and philanthropist Libbie Mugrabi. Magugu said the sustainable clothes were made from discarded fabrics from America and Europe. The collection, which is available at Bergdorf ’s, drew inspiration from South Africa’s history, culture, and politics. Following the show, Libbie hosted a dinner for Magugu at the city’s posh new hot spot, The Twenty Two. Guests included iconic English designer Zandra Rhodes. vam.ac.uk
Artist Guy Stanley Philoche’s critically acclaimed series New York, I Still Love You opened at the Cavalier Gallery. Philoche’s love letter to the Big Apple showcased iconic NYC images from the Statue of Liberty to coffee cups and subway stops. The paintings were framed like a Polaroid picture — the camera Philoche used when exploring the city’s streets looking for unique images. Guy’s pictures were also shown during Miami Art Week. Guests included Ken Jewell, Dr. Lee Phillips, Morgan Stanley wealth manager Sergio Nicolosi, and The Ritual Tea’s Anna Chernitskaya. philochestudios.com
Isabelle Bscher’s Galerie Gmurzynska presented Le Main de Picasso (The Hand of Picasso) alongside works by Roberto Matta and Yves Kline at its NYC gallery at 43 E 78th Street. The exhibition’s centerpiece, a 1937 plaster cast of Pablo Picasso’s left hand, is the only known example of its kind. The piece belongs to a famous collector who acquired it from the Picasso estate. This work has not been shown publicly in more than twenty years. Bscher invited viewers to explore the symbolic and personal meaning of the work. gmurzynska.com
