Description: The Tesla R&D and Experience Center is imagined to be the introduction of Tesla to India. An old automobile service center shed is re-designed to be the edgy structure that truly aligns with both Tesla’s goals in sustainable future and the brand personality. The big ideas is that the R&D center (inner volume) in encased, protected and from the public eye. The Red Ramp circulates around the inner volume to reveal, strategically selected stages of automobile design without compromising privacy. The basement hosts the indulgence in the design of Tesla automobile.

“ The spatial narrative begins with the right red ramp from the ground level leading into the ﬁrst ﬂoor of the inner volume. The translucent Bendheim glass delicately encases the visually heavy metal structures.”

“ On taking the black ramp downstairs from the ground level, a dark volume is reached after walking down the dimly lit black ramp. On sensing motion of the visitor, the ceiling magnetic proﬁle laser light turns , throwing light seductively on the falcon wings. Followed by the iconic Tesla car headlights.”

“ The experience center in the basement level is designed to invoke awe and engagement. The back stair entry is the secondary entrance. Tesla merchandise is displayed on metal frame brass racks that double as partitions between display zones. Cars displayed on modulated stair landings and even the ceiling as an extension of the brands’s attitude of Questioning.”

“A complex circulation hybrid of the ramp and stairs allows visitors to see different stages of automobile design process from different perspectives without gaining physical access inside the inner volume. Architecturally, the ramp allows visitors movement without having to focus on where he is heading. He can now be engrossed in the observing the Tesla visualization lab”
