Von Natur aus Aktivistin, startete sie 1997 eine Tour mit dem Ziel, das Bewusstsein für Brustkrebs zu wecken und zu schärfen. Sie hat sich auch stark gemacht für Hilfsorganisationen und Aktionen wie das World Food Programm der Vereinten Nationen. 2000 und 2001 wurde Keiko bei den National Smooth Jazz Awards als „Best Female Artist” ausgezeichnet. Ihre CD „Deep Blue” (2001) toppte drei aufeinanderfolgende Wochen die Billboard Contemporary Jazz Charts. Keiko ist der erste japanische Künstler, dem diese Ehre zuteil geworden ist. Im Januar 2011 veröffentlichte sie ihr lang erwartetes, selbst produziertes und 22. Album „The Road …”, gefolgt von dem vierhändig gespielten Klavier-Projekt „Altair & Vega” (2011) mit Bob James. Insgesamt wurden ihre Alben siebenmal mehrere Wochen lang in den TOP10 Billboard Jazz Album Charts geführt.
