Eric Marienthal studierte am Berklee College of Music in Boston, u.a. bei dem legendären Saxophon-Professor Joe Viola. Seine Ausbildung dort schloss er mit der höchsten Eignungsbewertung ab. 1995 folgte der Berklee Distinguished Alumnus Award für außerordentliche Leistungen im Bereich Contemporary Music. Seine berufliche Laufbahn begann 1980 mit dem berühmten Trompeter Al Hirt. Nach seiner Rückkehr nach Los Angeles trat Eric der Chick Corea Elektric Band bei, nahm sechs CDs mit ihnen auf und gewann zwei Grammys. Zudem trat er mit Künstlern wie Elton John, Barbra Streisand, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick, Lee Ritenour, George Duke, David Benoit, Patti Austin, David Lee Roth u.v.a. auf. Insgesamt hat der Saxophonist, den die Leser des Jazziz Magazine zusammen mit David Sanborn und Phil Woods schon einmal zum „Favorite Alto Sax Player“ des Jahres gewählt haben, 15 Solo-CDs veröffentlicht. Acht seiner Songs schafften es in die Top 10 der nationalen Contemporary Jazz Radio-Charts, drei sogar auf Platz 1. Hinzu kommen Auftritte in über 75 verschiedenen Ländern sowie Hunderte von Fernsehshows, Filmen und Schallplatten, auf denen er mitwirkte.

Eric Marienthal estudou no Berklee College of Music em Boston, entre outros, com o lendário professor de saxofone, Joe Viola. Concluiu os seus estudos com a nota mais alta aí atribuída. Em 1995 seguiu-se o Prémio Berklee Distinguished Alumnus para prestações extraordinárias no âmbito da música contemporânea. A sua carreira profissional começou em 1980 com o famoso trompetista Al Hirt. Após o seu regresso a Los Angeles, ingressou na Chick Corea Elektric Band, gravou com eles seis CDs e ganhou dois Grammys. Para além disso, atuou com artistas como Elton John, Barbra Streisand, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick, Lee Ritenour, George Duke, David Benoit, Patti Austin, David Lee Roth, entre outros. No total o saxofonista, que já foi votado pelos leitores da Jazziz Magazine em conjunto com David Sanborn e Phil Woods como “Favorite Alto Sax Player“ do ano, lançou 5 CDs a solo, oito das suas canções chegaram ao Top 10 das tabelas nacionais da Contemporary Jazz Radio, três dos quais inclusivamente no primeiro lugar. Conta ainda com atuações em mais de 75 países, bem como em centenas de espetáculos televisivos, filmes e discos nos quais participou.

Eric studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston with the legendary saxophone professor, Joe Viola. By the time he left Berklee, Eric had achieved the highest proficiency rating given by the school. In 1995, Eric was awarded the Berklee Distinguished Alumnus Award for outstanding achievements in contemporary music. His professional career started in 1980 with famed trumpeter Al Hirt. After returning to Los Angeles Eric became a member of the Chick Corea Elektric Band. He recorded 6 CD’s with them and won 2 Grammy Awards. Eric went on to perform with artists such as Elton John, Barbra Streisand, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick, Lee Ritenour, George Duke, David Benoit, Patti Austin, David Lee Roth and many others. Overall, the saxplayer has since gone on to perform in over 75 different countries, recorded 15 solo CD’s and has played on hundreds of records, films and tv shows. Eight of the songs he has recorded have made it to the top 10 of the National Contemporary Jazz Radio Charts and three have made it to #1. Eric was voted as being one of the year’s “Favorite Alto Sax Players” in Jazziz Magazine’s Reader’s Poll along with David Sanborn and Phil Woods.
