Parents, Teachers, and Students! This year the theme of the library is “24/7/365,” and our motto is that “Just because the doors are closed doesn’t mean you can’t visit!” This change came as a result of HEARING YOU! Parents and students want more availability of the school’s library! Maybe that’s because you realize that students who know how to use the library’s resources do better in college and careers. They develop skills of resourcefulness as well as academic leisure. This issue of our LMC newsletter is dedicated to helping our library users get to know the resources that are here and available to you! We have some exciting new services available for our patrons, and we look forward to serving you this year! The SMMHS library is increasing our online presence to accommodate our patrons. Every afternoon at 2:30 we post a book trailer on Twitter and Facebook as well as advertising library events and programs, on Pinterest you’ll find resources for students, parents, AND teachers — everything from book recommendations and effective study tools to classroom organizing strategies and bulletin board ideas! Let Atriuum Work for You Atriuum is the name of our the Book System that manages our library inventory! With just a few clicks, you can access anything you need from our library; you can even reserve an item from your own device! To search and reserve your books, visit the SMMHS Media Center homepage and click on the big, blue, Atriuum icon. Search for items by keywords, title, author, subject, and series. Click here for specific instructions! Logging in is simple! Generally, patrons usernames are their first and last name as it appears in PowerSchool, and the pin is the last six digits of their student ID numbers (that’s also their lunch number). If the log-in information doesn’t appear to be working or it needs to be reset, just email us

smmhassist@gmail.com. For step by step instructions click here or learn how to find materials in Atriuum by watching the YouTube video (click the video to the right).

Need something from the library, but your hectic schedule doesn’t allow you to visit during regular hours? Just because our doors are closed doesn’t mean you can’t visit! Our online “portal” allows you to visit 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year!! Visit your school library anywhere, anytime from your own device! Patrons can reserve items online, and then those items will be hand-delivered the next school day during the first class! Users will also find print and video t u t o r i a l s designed to m a k e navigating the l i b r a r y resources more simple. These tutorials and more are available here and under the student section on the LMC (Library Media Center) website. Parents and teachers are welcome to use them as well!! With service like this, what’s your excuse for not using our library?

Your school library collects used items each Fall, and we put them to good use! Those items which can be directly used by the library are kept; others are donated to school classrooms. If we can’t use them here, we donate some to the area elementary schools and the rest we trade at McKay’s Used Book Store for books and resources our students and teachers CAN use!

The official dates of the Book Drive are November 16-24, but we will take items anytime. During our Book Drive, we will have boxes at the middle & high school entrances where you can drop your items. You can also personally deliver them to the library if you would prefer. Here is a list of items we will be collecting.
