SPRING/SUMMER 1998 – ‘The Golden Shower’/‘Untitled’ While McQueen was primarily focused on exploring pain, he knew better than most just how closely pain links with pleasure. The collection's tailoring started sharp, slowly growing looser and sheerer, exposing flesh as the show went on. In the second half, golden rain fell from above, soaking the models through and exposing naked skin beneath sheer white outfits. Originally named ‘The Golden Shower’ – after the act of urination during sex – corporate sponsors were apparently outraged at the unadulterated sexuality of the show, and demanded a name change. Now, the collection is known as ‘Untitled’, but who can forget a golden shower?
