It moved from Taylor’s Store to Bernard’s Landing in 1992, a venue that provided not only more space but scenic lake views ant the opportunity for patrons to arrive by boat. In 2008, organizers moved the festival to its current home, LakeWatch Plantation, which allowed for even more growth. In celebration of the 25th anniversary, the SML Chamber is selling commemorative wine glasses and T-shirts. Also new this year is the opportunity to reserve a private chalet or VIP package with garden seating and deluxe restroom facilities. DID YOU KNOW? < Rebec Vineyards in Amherst is the only winery to participate in the festival all 25 years. < While the vast majority of festival-goers are from Virginia, the event has attracted patrons from states throughout the MidAtlantic as well as New York, Oregon, California and Pennsylvania.
WANT TO GO? 25th Annual Smith Mountain Lake Wine Festival What Fundraiser for the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce featuring 27 Virginia wineries, 85 craft and food vendors and live music When Saturday, Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday, Sept. 29 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Where LakeWatch Plantation, Moneta (Virginia 122 south of Hales Ford Bridge) What You’ll Hear Polychrome and Dragonfly will play Saturday. Sunday’s scheduled band is The Kings. Tickets Tasters are $20 in advance and $25 at the gate. Non-tasters are $12 in advance and $15 at the gate. Children under the age of 12 are admitted free.
