The Minha Casa Minha Vida (My House, My Life) program seeks to make owning a home more accessible to people on low income by means of housing finance programs. For this, according to the CAIXA Econômica Federal regulation (which arranges finance), it is necessary to prove you have lived in the municipality for two years and show your RNE and permanent visa. Applications can be made through the CRAS. Independently of the program, migrants have the right to rent property in Brazil. See below:

How does renting property work in Brazil?

ach owner and estate agent has their own specifications as to the documents needed. Generally, you will be asked for at least: • RNE or Protocol; • CPF; • Proof of income (Employment certificate, pay slips); • Guarantor (someone who, by way of contract, is obligated to pay the debt if the tenant doesn’t pay the rent); OR • Insurance-guarantee (amount paid to an insurance company that will guarantee the payment if the tenant does not pay the rent).

Can migrants buy property in Brazil? According to Brazilian legislation, migrants have the right to acquire property in urban environments. A migrant should follow the same administrative procedure to which Brazilians are subject. If you are interested in buying a property, you need to check with the owner or estate agent what documents you will need. There are, however, specific rules that regulate the acquisition of rural properties by migrants.
