Welcome to February at SMA Vehicle Remarketing First and foremost, my thanks to our growing number of customers for your support. Despite many forecasts that suggested 2015 would see a slow down, January turned out to be a record-breaking month right across the SMA Group. We saw more stock, more sales, exceptional conversion levels and welcomed many new buyers and vendors. The year has started very positively. Assessing the activity, whilst it is clear that there were some notable drivers of sales, the cold snap, for example, certainly lifted 4 x 4 activity, but perhaps most of all the feedback from buyers is that there is consumer demand. Dealers are looking to increase their stock levels because they are confident they will be able to find buyers. The confident picture is supported by the activity with our new stock funding partners at NextGear Capital. Their distinctive approach to stock funding is proving to be having an impact. In part this is about increasing stock and in part, it is about dealers moving away from traditional retail finance company linked relationships and the potential FCA implications these can create. Another big influencer has certainly been the fall in oil and the impact upon the price of fuel. There has been a real rise in activity for luxury stock and petrol cars are performing particularly well. What is clear is that buyers have a clear idea of value – this means price and condition. Even with strong demand, there are price ceilings and demand is not driving prices notably higher. The one real exception has been well prepared LCVs. In the month ahead, we will be asking buyers for their help in completing short questionnaire, which we will use to help shape the next stage of our development, so please help us to help you and thank you in advance for your help.
