January 30, 2019

Start in March! Business Development Specialist

Hi! My name is Hazel. An angel brought me to the shelter when I hurt my knee so that I could get the surgery that saved my leg! So many humans stayed by my side and watched over me while my recovery was in its most fragile state, even when I kept trying to wiggle away and play before my body was ready. I'm only two years old and a healthy girl! I'm doing so well that my doctor thinks I'll stay in one piece without any further surgeries, so don't worry if you see me standing on three paws sometimes. It took me a long time to learn how to walk and trot with one less leg, and now that it doesn't hurt anymore, I'm still trying to do it "right" again. But don't let that fool you, because I LOVE to zigzag around the room like a ping pong ball and scale cat trees like spidercat. Clearly I was worth it! Not only do I resemble the Egyptian Goddess Bastet, but I am an endless source of entertainment and affection all my own.

Host a sports viewing party to remember

Amateur and professional athletics are both big business. According to Forbes, the Southeastern Conference, a collective of universities that includes the University of Alabama and the University of Georgia, generated $375 million in television money alone in 2015, collecting another $140 million from football and basketball postseason play. While that’s a hefty chunk of change, and even more impressive when considering the SEC is just one of many conferences in college athletics, it pales considerably in comparison to the National Football League, which Forbes projected would surpass $13.3 billion in total revenues in 2016.

parties are a great way to watch the big game with fellow fans, and such gatherings don’t have to require all that much effort on the part of hosts.

www.SmartShopperAd.com

• Upgrade your television. Projection screens are go-to options for many avid sports fans, But projectors and screens may stretch some sports fans’ budgets. A 4K ultra-HD television can be an affordable option depending on the size of the television, and such devices provide incredibly crisp pictures that can make sports fans feel as though they’re inside the stadium cheering on their favorite players.

• Make it a potluck affair. Potluck affairs make perfect sense for sports viewing parties, so don’t be surprised if guests offer to whip up some homemade guacamole or a buffet-style dish for the big party. Encourage this, asking guests to share what they’re bringing with other invitees so there are no duplicate offerings. • Purchase a sound system. Today’s

televisions are sleek and thin. While that saves space and provides more aesthetic appeal than the bulky televisions of yesteryear, thin designs leave little room for sound tech. As a result, it can be hard to hear what’s going on in the game without a sound system. JUST FOR FUN, BRAGGING RIGHTS - OR YOU CAN HAVE PRIZES DESIGNATED FOR EACH QUARTER FOR YOUR GUESTS!

LOS ANGELES RAMS

squares

New England Patriots

Step ONE

HOW TO PLAY

Start off with an empty 10 by 10 grid. This will give you 100 Squares for people to choose from. We’ve already assigned the Patriots to the columns and the Rams to the rows.

Step Two

Now, start recruiting people to join your Football Squares pool by letting them choose which squares they want. Once all the squares have been filled, randomly assign numbers 0 through 9 to each column, followed by doing the same for each row. Now each square represents a specific score in the game based on the column and row numbers.

Step three

Your Football Squares grid is now complete, and you just need to wait til the game is played to determine who will be your winners. A winner will be determined at the end of the 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter, and Final Game score. The winner is determined by looking at the last number in each teams' score, and then matching those numbers on the grid and seeing which square intersects those two numbers. An example would be if the New England Patriots are playing the LA Rams in the Super Bowl, and the score at halftime is Patriots 23, and Rams 14. The last number for the Patriots is 3, and the last number for the Rams is 4. The square on the grid that has the Patriots with a number of 3, and Rams score of 4, would be the winner.

VALENTINE’S DAY

Factors that can affect the length of your engagement Each year, millions of couples around the world tie the knot. But before couples walk down the aisle, the proposal to get married must take place. Many couples mutually agree to get engaged, while the experience may be a surprise for others who have thought about it, but may not have been sure when one partner or another would “pop the question.” Upon getting engaged, couples may ponder how long their engagement should last. VALENTINE’S DAY

Tips for a successful marriage proposal People ready to “pop the question” may wonder about the right way to initiate an engagement proposal. Because a marriage proposal is such a memorable moment in a couples’ lives together, those doing the proposing often go to great lengths to ensure things go smoothly. While there is no proposal playbook, these guidelines can assist those ready to take the leap. • Add a personal touch. It’s easy to get caught up in making a marriage proposal a spectacle or something worthy of a social media post. But taking a sweetheart back to a special place that recalls a significant moment can set the backdrop for a memorable proposal. Incorporating the place you first met or a special time and followed the traditions song into the proposal can make of yesteryear. Show respect to it that much more personal and future in-laws by speaking to them meaningful. about intentions to propose and ask for their blessings. Get down • Embrace the old fashioned. It on bended knee when asking for a may be romantic to step back in sweetheart’s hand. Such gestures

add up to meaningful expressions of love. • Consider timing. A person may be so excited to propose that he or she fails to consider how the other person in the relationship is feeling. If that person is overwhelmed by work projects or stressed about upcoming events, consider waiting to propose at a more relaxed time. • Enlist help from others. It can be a challenge to keep your excitement hidden while collecting information about a future spouse’s likes and dislikes. Ask friends and close family members to be your accomplices so that information

can be gathered without generating suspicion. This can be especially helpful when finding the perfect ring. • Keep it simple. The more complex a proposal, the more opportunities for things to go wrong. Simplicity, even if it means keeping the proposal to yourself until the question has been popped, can make for an extra special moment. Marriage proposals happen every day. With humor, confidence and a heart full of love, popping the question can be a success.

Concerned About Rising Mortgage Rates? Borrowers Have Options

Boomer said it’s important to know Home buyers concerned about higher rates have other options to consider: an adjustable rate mortgage (ARM), which provides an initial lower monthly payment, or a 15-year fixed rate mortgage, which has a higher monthly payment but reduces the amount of interest paid over the course of the loan. A Shot in the ARM An ARM typically starts out at a lower interest rate than the classic, 30-year fixed rate. After an initial period, typically five, seven or 10 years, the interest rate adjusts over the life of the loan.

Many people like the idea of that lower rate to start, while others prefer the peace of mind of a stable rate.

TAX DIRECTORY

Get a head-start on tax season The dawn of a new calendar year often marks the end of the sometimes hectic holiday season. This time of year marks a return to normalcy for many families, as the kids go back to school and parents return to work. The beginning of January also serves as a great time to start preparing for tax season. While the deadline to file returns may be several months away, getting a head-start allows men and women the chance to organize their tax documents so they aren’t racing against a deadline come April. The following are a handful of ways to start preparing for your returns now.

• Gather dependents’ information. While you might know your own Social Security number by heart, if you have dependents, you’re going to need their information as well. New parents or adults who started serving as their elderly parents’ primary caretakers over the last year will need their kids’ and their folks’ social security numbers. If you do not have these numbers upon filing, your return will likely be delayed and you might even be denied potentially substantial tax credits.

• Gather your year-end financial statements. If you spent the last year investing, then you will have to pay taxes on any interest earned. Interest earned on the majority of savings accounts is also taxable, so gather all of your year-end financial statements from your assorted • Find last year’s return. You will accounts in one place. • Speak with your mortgage lender. Homeowners should receive forms documenting their mortgage interest payments for the last year, as the money paid in interest on your home or homes is tax deductible. If these forms are not received in a timely manner, speak with your lender. You might even be able to download them from your lender’s secure website.

donated to if you misplaced any receipts. • Book an appointment with your tax preparation specialist now. As April 15 draws closer, tax preparers’ schedules get busier and busier. The earlier you book your appointment, the more likely you are to get a favorable time for that meeting. In addition, if you have gathered all of the information you need by early February, then booking your appointment early means you can file earlier and receive any return you might be eligible for that much quicker.

• Make a list of your charitable contributions. Charitable contributions, no matter how small, are tax deductible. While it’s easiest to maintain a list of all charitable donations you make as the year goes on, if you have not done that, Tax season might not be right then you can make one now. Look around the corner, but it’s never too for receipts of all contributions, early to start preparing your return. contacting any charities you

The NFL did not turn to pop acts for the halftime show until 1991. Before then, it was largely comprised of marching bands. The New Kids on the Block performed in 1991.

February 26th Albert Einstein: Relatively Speaking CHARLTON - In this one-hour interactive performance on Tuesday, February 26 from 6:30pm to 8pm at the Charlton Public Library, actor and storyteller George Capaccio invites you to enter the boundarybreaking universe that is the mind of Albert Einstein. You will discover that time and space are inseparable, that time actually slows down the faster you go, and that if you could travel at the speed of light, time would actually stop! But there’s a lot more to the story than Einstein’s insights into the nature of reality. George focuses on the great scientist’s very human qualities, including his sense of humor, his fondness for Jewish jokes, and his trials and tribulations as a family man. As part of the show, you’ll time travel with George on the trajectory of Einstein’s life — from lowly patent clerk in a Swiss office to world-class physicist.
