Do you have unusable products in your inventory? Do you have product wastes in your shop or storage area? If you answered “yes” to either question, consider participating in the Walworth County Business Clean Sweep program scheduled Friday, October 3. What is a Business Clean Sweep? Business Clean Sweep is a convenient and cost effective once-a-year waste disposal opportunity for businesses and institutions that generate small quantities of “hazardous waste.” Who may participate in the Business Clean Sweep program? Businesses, manufacturers, municipalities, schools, retail stores, and service providers that generate small amounts of hazardous waste, and classify as a Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG) according to DNR standards. In general, any business or institution that generates less than 220 pounds of hazardous waste per month may participate. Businesses and institutions located outside of Walworth County are welcome to participate. Why participate in this program? Reduced costs, and more! Business Clean Sweep program participants pay for product disposal, but the cost is significantly less than contracting with a vendor for this service on an individual basis. Not all chemical or product wastes are defined as “hazardous.” If a waste item fits some other definition, the cost may be lower than expected. Proper chemical and product disposal on a regular basis keeps a small problem from becoming a significant liability. Program participants increase protection of their customers, employees, and the environment. What kind of products should be disposed of at a Business Clean Sweep program? Examples are: • oil & lead-based paints • old fuel • pesticides • herbicides • paint remover • degreasers • adhesives • lubricants • wood preservatives • cleaning chemicals • fluorescent bulbs • fertilizers • solvents • mercury thermometers & thermostats What should I do, if I’m interested? (Pre-registration is required for this program.) Call 262-741-3367 to request a Chemical Inventory & Pre-Registration Form. Complete the form and send it by email, fax or U.S. Postal Service by Thursday, September 25 to the Veolia company contact listed on the form. A no obligation disposal quote will be provided.
