Trim, taut and terrific BARIATRIC SURGERY IS EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE AT HELPING PEOPLE LOSE WEIGHT. HOWEVER, OFTEN THESE PATIENTS ARE THEN LEFT WITH A NEW PROBLEM: SAGGING, UNSIGHTLY, UNCOMFORTABLE EXCESS SKIN. Here, Dr Drew Cronin of The Lotus Institute reveals the surgical options available to address this. ABDOMINOPLASTY: The most common area of excess skin post weight-loss surgery is the abdomen. An abdominoplasty or ‘tummy-tuck’ addresses excess skin from the anterior abdomen, removing overhanging tissue and tightening the abdominal muscles. BODY LIFT: Patients that have lost extreme amounts of weight typically have excess skin both front and back. A body lift or circumferential lipectomy addresses excess skin of the abdomen, lateral thighs, lower back and gluteal area. It is the single most powerful procedure for regaining the contour of the central body.

Dr Drew Cronin and Dr Peter Widdowson at The Lotus Institute undertake a variety of surgical body procedures that permanently eliminate undesirable ‘bulges’ of fatty tissue. They offer liposuction, body contouring, tummy tucks (abdominoplasty), and body lifts that target your body, thighs and arms. Each operation has different hospital stay durations and associated recovery requirements.

BRACHIOPLASTY: Brachioplasty, or ‘arm lift’ removes loose, hanging skin from the upper arms and armpits. It is one of the most popular procedures for massive weight-loss patients who still feel uncomfortable in sleeveless clothing. THIGH LIFT: Patients often comment that they feel their legs look worse after massive weight-loss due to overhanging, creasing and wrinkling of the thigh skin. A thigh lift addresses this by removing excess tissue medially, tightening the remaining skin and improving creasing and dimpling laterally. MASTOPEXY: Women often say that their breasts have become deflated and need to be ‘tucked in’ to their bra after. A breast lift both re-positions breast volume on the front of the chest and places the nipple at the front of the breast.
