LYRICS AND POETRY: EMPHASIS ON WORDS This new set by Van Morrison will include many of his more lyrical and autobiographical songs from Astral Weeks; No Guru, No Method, No Teacher; Hymns to the Silence and other albums. He will be accompanied by his daughter, Singer/Songwriter, Shana Morrison and a rhythm section comprising Dave Keary – guitar; Paul Moran – keyboards; Paul Moore – bass and Jeff Lardner – drums. In the show, some of Van’s most lyrical songs will be interspersed with readings of his poetry and that of some of his favourite poets, particularly Yeats and Blake.
This new departure sees Van Morrison explore his repertoire in a fresh and innovative manner. In many of his recent performances, he interprets his forty album back catalogue; one of rock music’s richest, in different ways. Van will share with audiences some of the autobiographical and literary influences in his songs, giving a glimpse of Van’s humanity and warmth behind his noted reserve. At their best Van Morrison’s live performances are regarded as transcendental and inspired and over the years many of his recordings have been widely viewed among the greatest ever made, with several included in ‘best album lists’. Since his international breakthrough with Them in 1964, Van the Man has carved out a career as one of the most respected and influential artistes in popular music. Van Morrison has been awarded many prestigious accolades over the years including Grammys and Brit Awards, an OBE; French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres; and being inducted into the Hall of Fame; - the list is endless. Perhaps the ultimate achievement for a Northern Irish East Belfast boy was the selection of his song ‘Days Like This’ as the anthem of the Northern Irish Peace Process.
