House Zwaanswyk, Tokai Cape Town Zwaanswyk residence was both an exciting and challenging project. The 1 acre site posesses views over False Bay and the surrounding mountains of the Cape. Its position is such that it is sheltered from the prevailing Cape South Easter, enabling the pool to be placed in a prominent sunny position. The entertainment areas all open towards the view and light and do so without hesitation. The site has a significant slope which we filled to create a level ‘plateau’ which further enhances the views and creates a fantastic entertainment lawn and generous sweeping driveway.

House Stelzner, Fernkloof Estate, Hermanus Beautiful panoramas suround this family holiday home. Achieving the balance between mountain and fynbos views and privacy for the family was. Most finishes were locally produced and solar panels and LED lights provided for all light and hot water requirements.

Feel Good Home, Simonstown, Cape Town Timber frame construction has the lowest CO2 cost of any commercial building material. We used this method of construction for a house, perched on a hill overlooking False Bay. We created a concrete ‘container’ at the base of the site on which the lightweight timber structure would push against. This avoided the financial and evironmental cost of driving piles as foundation supports.

House Jay, Stonehurst Mountain Estate Working within the estate’s design and height constraints, SJM created a multilayered family home with numerous framed outlooks, details and nooks. Situated atop an underwater stream we were able to successfully combine our technical strengths with aesthetic flair.

Versailles Residences, Greenpoint, Cape Town SJM was the appointed project architect for this apartment block. Great care was taken to comply with the brief as well as council requirements. The exterior lighting played a key role in creating a building with impact for the Greenpoint skyline.

Beau Ciel, Sarasota, Florida, USA Whilst project architect in the USA, I headed up the design team and oversaw the construction of this 18 storey luxury condominium. Co-ordinating all of the various services as well as taking into consideration wind studies (including structural design for hurricanes) was a highly engaging experience.
