We’ve had a great Spring here at San Jose filled with a spectacular tournament calendar, player development programs and PGA Jr League! We will be hosting our summer junior golf camps during the months of June and July, please see the flyer below for additional details. Be sure to sign up as Stephanie and Evan have a great itinerary that is sure to fulfill your junior golfer’s needs. As a reminder the golf course will be closed for aerification from Tuesday, May 31st through Friday, June 10th. Hours of Golf Shop Operation will be 8am-3pm each day as we will be here to assist with reciprocals, golf bags, shopping, or any assistance you may need here at the club. If you’re looking to plan ahead, here is a list of courses that will be available for tee times on a limited basis: Deerwood, Jax Golf & CC, PV Ocean & Lagoon, Eagle Harbour, Eagle Landing, Oak Marsh, Amelia National, King & Bear and Slammer & Squire.
Congratulations to our 2022 Lions Pride Member Guest Champions Jonathan Davis & Josh Scobee! It was a great shootout as always and at the end, five holes were not enough to determine our overall champions. Tying on Hole #18 with Matt Saxton and his partner Chris Walters we headed back to #10 tee for a playoff! Josh Scobee stuck the teams third shot to 3 feet and Davis tapped in for their par to take the title of Lions Pride Champions. It was a great weekend for golf and fellowship as the weather could have not been better! Thanks to all 120 participants for competing in such a great event, what a way to cap off our spring season. TIP FROM THE PRO
If your club is hitting too far behind the ball when you’re chipping, there’s a good chance your chest is not turning through the shot as much as it should. If this sounds like you, try hitting some short chip shots from a downslope. You don’t need to aim at the green; having a fairly steep slope is the key here. To pull off this chip, you’ll find that it’s necessary to feel like your body’s leaning with the slope at address. It will feel like most of your weight is on your lead side. During the motion, continue feeling your body leaning with the slope, and try to swing the club down and left along the slope. This is tricky at first, but before long you will be making clean contact. Once you start consistently getting the hang of it, move to a level lie, but continue to feel your body leaning left, and do your best to recreate the swing you were making on the downslope. Your contact should improve immediately.

HEAR THE DIRT
I had the opportunity to have a conversation with Hayes Farley on the instruction tee after one of his lessons. We started out with our typical how’s the grass doing back here for you Hayes? Great, am I and the guys keeping the divots filled enough? Don’t want to add to the GCM workload. Perfect Hayes, we really appreciate y’alls help. He rolled right into a story of a recent round of golf which gathered my full attention. He was standing on the tee box getting ready to address the shot and around the mound came a golf course maintenance employee with a push mower. He waited for a second or two and another one came and another and another. He said, Crimany, there was at least a dozen guys push mowing the rough on this one hole. I had to say WOW, impressive that’s more people than I generally have on a daily basis and close the entire staff number. His compliment of; No, what’s impressive is what this small staff accomplishes every day. The multitude of jobs each encounter, their diversity in training, their ability to quickly switch gears as the plan changes. Shoot, just the way they all work together to a common goal. I gotta agree with my man Hayes on this one, so… Next time you are on the course, and you get a little angry because the bunkers haven’t been raked in front of the 8 o’clock tee time or you encounter a mower on a hole, know that it is not because we don’t care, it’s because we don’t have 12 extra people every day to just push mow rough.
