PLANES OF THE FACE Locating where the shadows are on the head can be somewhat mystifying. To make it easier, first sketch a loose, rough diagram of a head, using straight lines to indicate the different planes of the face. By visualizing the face as a solid object defined by planes, you can see the logic of light and shadow. Shadow: lower left

Minimize shadows to keep the look from getting too realistic.
