BALLANGEN MUSEUM In beautiful Ballangen, about 40 km south of Narvik, you can visit Ballangen Museum. The exhibitions at Ballangen Museum includes the museum building itself, the director’s office, the mining activities, the laboratory, the infirmary and the history of electricity in the municipality. Mining operations The extensive mining operations that has taken place since the 1600 century in the community of Ballangen is something you can learn about at the museum. Based on artifacts and photos you will get to see how the mining operation was carried through.

The most comprehensive business was at Bjørkaasen Gruber AS, where the exploration operations began at 1911 and the foundation of the mining company took place in 1913. The operation lasted until 1964 and during the construction period, about 450 people were employed here. Mainly copper and pyrite was taken out from the mines.
