VILLA MARIA HOUSE OF STUDIES SPOTLIGHTS SISTER JOHN EVELYN DITROLIO
Sister John Evelyn grew up, the second of nine children, in Sacred Heart Parish in Havertown, PA. The parish was like a second home! The school was the heart of the parish, and Sister John’s parents were very involved in both school and parish activities. The IHMs staffed the school, and Sister credits the seeds of her vocation to the joyful witness and selfless service of the sisters that she met in her early years. She recalls that they had “a passionate love for God’s people, and their joy was electrifying.” After elementary school, Sister John attended Cardinal O’Hara High School and then worked one year at First Pennsylvania Bank before entering the Congregation. Sister John spent many years teaching in IHM schools, but she has twice performed ministries at the Villa Maria House of Studies. For eleven years, she served as the Directress of Novices, and presently, she is serving on the Leadership Team for the Congregation. The greatest gift, Sister John attests, in working in Congregational Administration is the ability to get to know the sisters and to serve their needs. She is both edified and humbled by the passionate hearts of the sisters! Their untiring, selfless service in attending to the needs of God’s people never ceases to amaze her. Sister John also counts, as another gift of her ministry, the opportunity to visit IHM schools and Congregational ministries where she has the opportunity to witness love in action.
