Mani Da Brat

Hornbrook Hall Community Center, 12pm - 2pm 15439 Hornbrook Road Mani Da Brat is a California-born Hip-Hop/RnB sensation with roots in Los Angeles, whose inspiring journey reflects resilience and self-discovery. Influenced by icons like Nicki Minaj, Tupac, Erykah Badu, and Tyler the Creator, Mani combines emotional depth with social commentary, embodying authenticity in her music. She discovered her passion for music early, starting her musical exploration at age 2, and later honing her skills through involvement in local choirs and instruments like the flute and piano. Mani's recent releases, 'SpaceShip' and 'Jupiter,' have captivated audiences, with 'MySpace 03' set for release in mid-October, promising more of her unique artistry and powerful storytelling. Venturing into music production and recording has fueled Mani Da Brat's exponential growth as she carves her niche in the Hip-Hop scene. Her lyrics serve as a deeply personal conversation, empowering her individuality and inner strength. As she continues to delight fans, engage with her audience, and grace stages with her performances, the world can expect more compelling music from this rising star.

Sherrilynn Nelson Hornbrook Hall Community Center, 9am-2pm 15439 Hornbrook Road I'm a self taught artist and musician originally from Colorado but have lived in California for the past 12 years. I've sold a few of my works to friends around the country. Other than one show at Woody's Cafe in Oakland, I haven't had any exhibitions. Some of my work is very traditional, and some is meant to shed a light on social problems. Musically, I recorded a full length album (released in September 2019) and 4 singles with a band I performed with in the Bay Area. We also produced 4 music videos. I was lucky to share the stage with many of my rock and roll heroes and was thrilled to see my original music get a popular response. COVID resulted in the band breaking up and since my limited employment made it impossible to afford the rent in Oakland, when I had the opportunity to purchase vacant land in Siskiyou County I did so, with the intention of creating a self-sustaining earthship/permaculture homestead. Since the land purchase in March 2022, I've resorted to a temporary state of homelessness as a step in the process and continue to struggle to find stable employment and shelter, although a kind neighbor has allowed me to park my van on his property. Since moving to Hornbrook my work has mainly been focused on capturing the beautiful mountain landscapes of the area. I also am exploring themes of a more personal nature and looking towards my inner psychological state for inspiration.

Alan Crockett

Art Center 63709 Highway 96, 12pm-4pm Alan Crockett is a painter, musician and community organizer who works with landscapes and sounds to create immersive images and experiences. Crockett graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute and UC Davis with a master degree in Art. He has worked as an artist for nearly his entire life. In 1997 he moved to the wild Klamath Mountains and has been employed by the US Forest Service as a Fisheries Biological Technician conducting surveys and monitoring streams . His new work brings together these interests and showcases the area’s incredible natural beauty and diversity.

Florance Condos

Art Center 63709 Highway 96, 12pm-4pm Florance Condos has lived in the Happy Camp, CA within the Elk Creek watershed for 27 years. She earned a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1990 and has been a working artist for 35 years. Florance’s paintings and drawings explore and celebrate the flora and fauna of the unique Klamath-Siskiyou region. Her works reside at the boundary of botany and abstraction. Natures own intricate patterning’s provide a jumping off point for her work. Her paintings create a narrative that speaks to a poetic sense of observed reality. Florance then transforms these experiences into works that are carefully and sensitively brought into being through an extraordinary attention to surface, touch and time. She plays with the intricate randomness of nature’s patterns creating a conversation between the artist and nature.

HAPPY CAMP ARTISTS

Kai Crockett Art Center 63633 California 96, 12pm-4pm “I’ve been involved in the arts my whole life. Art has become a tradition in my family. My cousins and I run around creating stories and movies and comics whenever we meet up. My grandparents share books and art shows they visited across the US. Art has been a chance for me to connect with people and to learn more about the world. I think this has inspired my artwork lately, as I am trying to make it clear how art can be used in to teach and learn. In studying psychology, biology, and art history in college, I became interested in language and emotion. I am creating an illustrated book that looks at the relationship between us and our environment. It’s been fun learning about narratives and making art based on the stories and interests of my friends and family. I want to show how learning about story and art can help with our relationships and work.”

Luke Vaughn Art Center 63709 Highway 96, 12pm-4pm “I am a ceramic artist. Most of what I do I hand built sculptures. I use cone 6 clays and glazes. Every piece is one of a kind, nothing is ever reproduced. I am not a realist, but create my rendition of what I see ( or imagine). I do a great deal of marine life. Some real some imaginary. My fascination comes from a realization of how fragile and essential the worlds oceans are. I also make dragons! Being of Welsh decent, it’s in my blood. I view my dragons as allies. They are spirit guardians. “

Marble Rim Gallery 11835 Main Street, 1pm-4pm The Marble Rim Gallery shows the work of local artists, Suzanne Birch, Cora Brownell, Linda Cabot, Katherine Chaplin, Monica Chaplin, Roger Davis, Madison Emerick, Penny Wells- Thomas, and Sam Whitman in rural Fort Jones, California. The gallery was started in 1991 as a platform for local artists to display their work. The first storefront location opened in Fort Jones in 1993. Since 2015 the gallery has operated as a project of the Scott Valley Theatre Company, and prior with Siskiyou Arts Council and various non-profit organizations prior to that. The gallery hosts monthly First Friday Open House receptions and shows featuring local artists, and sponsors annual events which include the Scott Valley Spring Craft Fair and the Fort Jones Christmas Craft Fair. The events have often provided local musicians a place to perform, giving community members a place to hear local music while viewing art created by local artists. In addition to the support to local artists to sell their creations, each annual fair includes food booths sponsored by local civic organizations or individual enterprises. Art classes are offered monthly at the gallery. Organized as a co-operative, the gallery is operated by the members, and supported in part through a percentage of the sales of members' artwork displayed in the gallery. The gallery also raises funds through annual membership fees, booth fees for the annual craft fairs, fees for classes, occasional raffles of artwork, and donations received from featured nonmember artists, patrons, and individual community members. All funds go to meet the costs to run the gallery, and to date, the gallery has been able to maintain its operations throughout the years. Please see the website for Marble Rim Gallery http://marblerimgallery.org for individual artist bio information.

MOUNT SHASTA (COSTUMES ENCOURAGED!)

BIANCA DE FRANCHIS 5PM-8PM Virtual Live-Stream Link will be posted to our Facebook page.

Self-taught mixed media artist who grew up in Mount Shasta. During their early adolescence Bianca was confined to a small, alternative religious community. The rigid rules of this imposed spiritual lifestyle left children predisposed to inadvertent misconduct. The young artist was able to escape the confines of this secluded environment and explore the secular world through the internet. The internet functioned as an outlet to the rest of the world and became a safe space, where the young artist was able to explore a more individualized sense of self and identity. Bianca’s early work targets the broader online community through the collective memory of meme culture and taps into early internet nostalgia. Memes provide brief and simple joy of distraction from everyday stressors. The artist commemorates socalled “dead memes” and sparks connection by recreating those jokes in a traditional art medium. In this way, memes which were originally popularized in their digital format, are transformed into tangible objects. Painting memes was a way of transforming these fleeting ideas into something tangible, and it allowed the artist to practice art without any formal training. The influence of memes is more widespread now than ever. They continue to inspire the artist and inform their creative process. However, Bianca has since developed a clearer sense of style and individuality. Beyond internet culture, Bianca searches to explore deeper concepts such as death, gender, mental health, chronic illness, sexuality, climate change, and the abstract feelings brought about through experiencing nature first hand. Bianca’s favorite mediums include watercolor, acrylic gouache, ink, patchwork embroidery, and tufting. Tune into their open studio to see what they have been up to.

Jill Gardner, BFA 1988 Artist Bio Art is the way I process life. It is my response to contemporary issues as well as a way to understand my personal journey. I am fascinated by the idea of weaving energy into my pieces through the conscious act of making the thing with my hands. From Japanese Brush painting to mixed media and costume design, through the years this focus has led to experimentation with natural materials and fabrics mixed with traditional media to produce multitextured works. I feel the power of the Feminine in this approach to making art thus I am connected to a grand continuum of creativity. The dialogue of art and creativity was the backdrop of my childhood, mixed with the natural beauty of Southern California’s coastline. LA contemporary artists Tom Wudl, Peter Alexander, Ron Cooper, David Bungay, Laddie Dill, and William Wegman are some of the family friends whose work has been a strong influence. In addition, my mother, Dina Mori, is a post-modern painter. My earliest influence was probably my Grandmother Gardner, who taught me ceramics and how to thread a needle. Over the years I have worked in many different media including watercolor, acrylic, colored pencil, fabric, photography, found objects, costume, sculpture and mixed media. As well I write poetry and prose. The Bay Area Figurative movement, the Burning Man phenomenon of collaborative, large-scale art, and the rise of performance and interactive art inspire me.

TaoHaus: a cozy and vibrant art studio and event space where art, music, movement, culture and spirituality converge. While some early pieces are similar to traditional thangkas, recent pieces are more interpretive and expressive. By using modern reflective and metallic pigments on paper and canvas, I attempt to imbue my work with a shimmering visionary quality of light and timeless space. My inspiration for this work came to me more than thirty years ago while living here in the presence of this beautiful sacred mountain. I have recently returned to live here permanently as I continue to evolve as an artist and human. I am delighted at this opportunity to share my art as a participant in Siskiyou X Days Open Studios!

113 N Gold St. I was born and raised on a ranch in the Little Shasta. After high school I traveled around the U.S. a bit and worked odd jobs for a few years, then ended up back east in Maryland where I was married and raised 2 sons. I moved back to Siskiyou county after my family was raised and went their own directions. I now reside in Yreka. I am drawn to most all forms of art and am self taught on nearly everything that I do. I work with wood, glass, metal, fabrics, paint, ceramics...you name it, I probably do it! I enjoy "upcycling", which probably comes from my upbringing. Being from a family of 7 children, Things were not quickly discarded. They were saved if a use could be found, or could be modified to work for something else. I find that both challenging and rewarding.

The art form of bellydance has origins in the North African and Middle Eastern regions, and has been influenced and modified by dancers in North America and other regions, gaining popularity in cabaret shows, troupe improvisational dancing, and fusion dance which includes elements from other forms such as hip-hop, hula, jazz, and modern dance. I teach a fusion style of bellydance, claiming no single origin, but a blend of styles and movements influenced by many cultures, and I am delighted to share what I have learned with the community and beyond, as most of my classes and some performances have evolved with online instructional opportunities. Improvisational Team Sync (ITS) is a dance featuring group improvisation with shared technique/vocabulary, and I earned certification to teach ITS in May 2020. I currently teach online for College of the Siskiyous.

Heather Stone 211 Main St, 12-3pm

“I’m Heather Stone, an artist living in the mountains near Weed, CA and a mother of two young boys. I have an art degree and went to University of the Arts in Philadelphia. My artistic mediums range from fibers and ceramics to glassblowing and drawing but my two main focuses are Jewelry and Painting. I make bohemian style jewelry with ethical materials such as vintage, repurposed, and recycled. My favorite materials to work with are gemstones, pearls, vintage charms, leather and crystals. In my paintings, I combine imagery of outer space, plants, animals, human forms, and sacred geometry to convey a sense of interconnected-ness of people to the earth and entire universe. Most of my paintings contain a rainbow of colors along with black & white for contrast. I use watercolor, acrylic, and oil painting on paper and canvas. I also do batik and fabric painting in the form of large scale tapestries! “

Bob Swanson

6430 Big Rock Rd. Lake Shastina, 2pm-6pm Then, it hit me, in the mid '80s, Why should I do anything else but photography. Eat, sleep and drink in the art and move in a world of my own making. So I quit my day job and gave up part-time assignment photography and shows for full time. I joined ASMP (The American Society of Media Photographers) and started Swanson Images. And to this day, when I'm behind the camera, in front of the computer (my modern day photo lab) or even making this web site, I'm that kid in the streets of NYC making art and feeling good for doing so. So Maybe this is really therapy for me for coping with the crazy world of human civilization, or maybe this is where and who I'm supposed to be.

Karen Story

Cedar Grove Center, 5pm-8pm 4303 Oak Street My name is Karen and I open portals and create future artifact-quality adornments using hammered copper and stone. I am local to Dunsmuir and Mount Shasta since 2013, originally from Hayward, born in Oakland, the year 1982. When I enter into the flow state of creation, I like to slow down for the details, similar to raking a zen garden. Part of my process is to emphasize balance and consistency through my presence with the brush. My visions for my paintings usually unfold bit by bit while I am in progress and I am rarely aware of what will be the turnout. I tend to lean towards simple color and linework to allow the eyes and mind to travel in it's own meditation to it's own destination, with plenty of roads to explore. I have been creating in the same style from the time I first learned to control a crayon. I began working with hammering copper in 2018, making heavy guaged earrings for myself and later evolved into wrapping them with stones and oxidizing them to create and antique appearance. When I paint, I often feel as thought I am channeling light, memories, emotion and thought, without always specific imagery. When I create jewelry and other types of adornments or artistic objects, I often feel that I am in the echo of countless ancestors, known and unknown, from every continent, collecting material, and creating the same basic objects, with some instinctual knowledge and intention to create something that feels like a shield of protection as well as embelishment, and something that will one day be discovered by the future and will tell that society hints about who we were.

FRIDAY, NOV 3RD MCCLOUD

Trinity Holsworth Plein Air Painting Demo, 3pm-6pm Hoo Hoo park Trinity Holsworth is a traditionally trained Plein Air Landscape painter. She earned her BFA in Fine Art Painting and Drawing from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. She has exhibited her work in numerous galleries and has been featured in several magazines. A nature enthusiast, she views the outdoors as her expansive art studio, adapting her techniques quickly in response to the shifting light of the sun. Using her smaller outdoor pieces as a foundation, she later crafts her larger, more detailed paintings. "What I appreciate about plein air painting is its capacity to capture moments where countless lives and events intersect. The landscapes reflect the historical tapestry of global occurrences. Every plant and animal within these scenes are interconnected, each bearing its unique narrative of how it arrived there. Through my art, I am continuously reminded of the intricate ties that bind us all; we do not exist in a vacuum of isolation." Trinity’s art is currently on display at The Gallery in Mt Shasta and at the Dunsmuir Dental Office. Her artwork can also be viewed and purchased at: www.trinityholsworth.com
