history SIRA SIRA is a privately owned company, founded in 1977 by a group of technicians active in the telecommunication field and specialized in RF technology. Sira has 11,000 sq.meters of manufacturing and support facility based in Caponago (MI) Italy. SIRA is a customer oriented company, which has adopted the philosophy of working together with its customers to meet the critical technical requirements for their systems with an attitude of enthusiasm and concern in order to provide the best results in the final products. This approach has given Sira a position of leadership in its field. Sira products are designed and manufactured in accordance with the particular international standards in force in the area. As a major position of its cross revenues, Sira has been investing in research and development, quality and reliability control and products safety in the RF field. This policy of investments has provided Sira with an extremely high level of experience in its field: there are Sira installations in more than 80 countries in the world.

SIRA’s aim is to give to all its customers reliable products and services with the highest quality standards, this ambitious goal is achieved mainly by means of an integrated management system (Quality-Safety-environment) and is certified according to the norms UNI EN ISO 9001 (2000) and UNI EN 14001 (1996). The enhancement of company efficiency through the continuous improvement of the operative quality of the internal functions (effectiveness), the reduction of defects on sold products and the notable attention to the quality culture at all company levels have become SIRA’s fundamental cares. VHF BIII COMBINERS
The signal generated by a transmitter on a specific VHF channel, say ch1, is delivered to port 1 (Narrow Band input) of coupler A1 (3 dB coupler) which splits the power in two halves onto ports 2 and 3, whilst virtually no power goes to port 4 which is the absorber load port. The two half power signals flow through the band pass filters BP1 and BP2, both tuned on frequency of ch1, and reach ports 2 and 3 of 3dB coupler A2. Due to the phase difference between the two half signals, they get summed up on A2 (3 dB coupler), so that the whole ch1 transmitter power (less NB input loss) gets to port 4 of A2, which actually is the combiner output. Similarly, the signal from another transmitter (ch2), is delivered to port 1 of coupler A2 (3 dB coupler). The signal is split in two by the 3dB coupler and flows towards the band pass filters. Being these tuned on frequency of ch1, ch2 signal is rejected by the band pass filters, and as per the previous case, the phase difference between ports 2 and 3 of the 3 dB coupler allows the summed up half power ch2 signals to get to the combiner output (port 4). By doing so, both transmitter signals are summed up at the output and kept separated (isolation) by means of the 3 dB coupler directivity as well as by the selectivity of the band pass filters. Different stages of selectivity and isolation of SIRA’s VHF filters and 3dB couplers make SIRA’s combiner modules suitable for ATV and DTV uses, in both eventualities of critical and non-critical mask applications. The high quality standard applied to each single component forming a part of SIRA’s Combiners, along with the regular testing measurements that each SIRA product subdues before leaving the factory, guarantees the best return loss characteristics, and makes the combiners suitable even for VSWR-critical applications.

Functioning principles of UHF combiners
FUNCTIONING PRINCIPLES OF UHF DIRECTIONAL FILTER TYPE COMBINERS The signal generated by a transmitter on a specific UHF channel, say ch1, is delivered to port 1 (Narrow Band input) of coupler A1 (3 dB coupler) which splits the power in two halves onto ports 2 and 3, whilst virtually no power goes to port 4 which is the absorber load port. The two half power signals flow through the band pass filters BP1 and BP2, both tuned on frequency of ch1, and reach ports 2 and 3 of 3dB coupler A2. Due to the phase difference between the two half signals, they get summed up on A2 (3 dB coupler), so that the whole ch1 transmitter power (less NB input loss) gets to port 4 of A2, which actually is the combiner output. Similarly, the signal from another transmitter (ch2), is delivered to port 1 of coupler A2 (3 dB coupler). The signal is split in two by the 3dB coupler and flows towards the band pass filters. Being these tuned on frequency of ch1, ch2 signal is rejected by the band pass filters, and as per the previous case, the phase difference between ports 2 and 3 of the 3 dB coupler allows the summed up half power ch2 signals to get to the combiner output (port 4). By doing so, both transmitter signals are summed up at the output and kept separated (isolation) by means of the 3 dB coupler directivity as well as by the selectivity of the band pass filters. Different stages of selectivity and isolation of SIRA’s UHF filters and 3dB couplers make SIRA’s combiner modules suitable for ATV and DTV uses, in both eventualities of critical and non-critical mask applications. The high quality standard applied to each single component forming a part of SIRA’s Combiners, along with the regular testing measurements that each SIRA product subdues before leaving the factory, guarantees the best return loss characteristics, and makes the combiners suitable even for VSWR-critical applications.

The Star Type Combiner basically consists of parallel connecting several transmitters to a single antenna system through suitable bandpass filters, each one tuned on the transmitter frequency to which it is connected. The parallel connection is obtained by means of coaxial lines of critical lenght. The RF power generated by TX1 (ch1) passes through filter BP1 to the star centre C to which the antenna is connected. In order to transfer to the antenna the total power from TX1,the short circuit of TX2 at TX1 frequency , must be converted to an open circuit at the star junction centre by means of L2. The same applies for transferring power from transmitters TX2 and the related conversion lines L1, L2.
