ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Admission into the MSc programme in Water and Environment is based on a successfully completed Bachelor’s degree in a natural science field, e.g. Agricultural Science, Biology, Environmental Sciences, Engineering or Natural Resources. The Bachelor’s degree must as a minimum include basic courses in mathematics, chemistry, biology and statistics. The following Danish Bachelor degrees qualify for admission to the MSc programme in Water and Environment: • Natural Resources, specialisation in Environmental Science • Biology • Biotechnology • Agriculture, Food and the Environment, specialisation in Agriculture and the Environment • Geology • Environmental Technology

WHAT IS SDC? Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research (SDC) is a partnership between all eight Danish universities and University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) in Beijing. SDC in Beijing offers seven unique Master’s programmes jointly developed by Danish and Chinese research environments.

WHO’S BEHIND THE PROGRAMME? The MSc in Water and Environment has been developed by the University of Copenhagen in collaboration with University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Aarhus University, the University of Southern Denmark and the Technical University of Denmark contribute to the programme.

STUDY WATER AND ENVIRONMENT AT SDC IN BEIJING

YOUR FUTURE CAREER

Water resources are under increasing pressure from overuse and pollution, intensified by population growth and climate change. Finding ways to secure sufficient supplies of water of a quality suitable for drinking and agricultural production while ensuring the stability of ecosystems is crucial. The Master of Science (MSc) programme in Water and Environment will prepare graduates to work professionally with the challenges of: • reducing and preventing water pollution • promoting sustainable use of water • protecting the environment • improving the state of water ecosystems • reducing the effects of floods and drought The demand for this competence profile is increasing worldwide.

STRUCTURE Water and Environment is a two-year MSc programme focusing on the following areas: • Hydrology and water resources • Freshwater ecology and eutrophication • Biogeochemistry, nutrient cycling and contaminants • Hydrology and groundwater protection • Hydro-eco-informatics and catchment modeling • Water treatment and nutrient reuse • Ecosystem restoration, mitigation and adaptions • Sustainable land use and management • Planning and governance Teaching will be structured in modules of approximately six weeks’ duration.

The SDC MSc programme in Water & Environment is: • A full Master’s programme (120 ECTS) • Taught in English • A double-degree programme. You will receive a Master’s degree from the University of Copenhagen as well as from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) on successful completion • Recognised by the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Educational Support and students are hence entitled to receive SU • 50% Danish and 50% Chinese students

A MSc degree in Water and Environment from SDC will give you the opportunity to work in a wide variety of fields, for example: • Engineering consultancy companies • Manufacturing companies, including companies that manufacture environmental technology products • Ministries and public administration institutions that set the political framework for the regulation of water and environment and carry out supervisory tasks • Educational institutions • Research institutions and companies • International organisations • Food and pharmaceutical companies • Professional agricultural organisations, including consultancy firms
