เมื่อวันที่ 11 เมษายน 2556 นางสาวปริญญา บุญฤทธิ์ ฤทัยกุล ผูอ้ านวยการแอมเนสตี้ อินเตอร์เนชัน่ แนล ประเทศ ไทย ยื่นหนังสือถึงรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงยุติธรรม ระบุ ว่า แอมเนสตี้ อินเตอร์เนชัน่ แนล ประเทศไทย เรียกร้องให้ รัฐบาลไทยรักษาพันธสัญญาและเห็นค ุณค่าของท ุก ชีวิตอย่างเท่าเทียมกัน เพราะไม่มีหลักฐานใดที่แสดง ว่าโทษประหารมีสว่ นช่วยป้องกันอาชญากรรม “รั ฐบาลไทยควรพิจารณาสนับสนุนแนวโน้มที่ เกิดขึ้น ระหว่างประเทศในทางที่ ยกเลิกโทษประหาร เนื่ องจาก ประเทศไทยเป็ นหนึ่ งในไม่กี่ประเทศในโลกที่ ยั งคงใช้โทษ ประหารชีวติ และโทษดังกล่าวเป็ นการละเมิดสิทธิมนุษยชน ขัน้ พื้นฐานในการมีชีวติ ตามหลั กปฏิ ญญาสากลว่าด้วยสิทธิ มนุษยชนแห่งองค์การสหประชาชาติรวมทั้งงานวิจัย มากมายจากนานาประเทศได้แสดงให้เห็นอย่างชัดเจนว่าโทษ ประหารชีวติ ไม่มีความเชื่ อมโยงใดๆ กับการเพิ่มขึ้น หรือ ลดลงของอาชญากรรม” ทั้งนีแ้ อมเนสตี้ อินเตอร์เนชัน่ แนล ประเทศไทย นาเสนอ รายงานสถานการณ์โทษประหารชีวิตและการประหารชีวิต ในปี 2555 ต่อนายสุชน ชาลีเครือ ที่ปรึกษา รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงยุตธิ รรม ซึ่งรับมอบแทนนาย ประชา พรหมนอก รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวง ยุติธรรม แอมเนสตี้ อินเตอร์เนชัน่ แนล ประเทศไทย มีขอ้ เรียกร้องต่อกระทรวงยุติธรรมว่ารัฐบาลไทยควร พิจารณาสนับสนุนแนวโน้มที่เกิดขึน้ ระหว่างประเทศในทาง ที่ยกเลิกโทษประหาร ดังนี้ ประกาศพักการประหารชีวิตในทางปฏิบัตอิ ย่างเป็ น ทางการโดยทันที เพื่อให้สอดคล้องกับแผนแม่บทว่า ด้วยสิทธิมนุษยชน ฉบับที่ 2 โดยมีเจตจานงที่จะออก กฎหมายให้ยกเลิกโทษประหารชีวิตในท้ายที่สดุ
เสนอแก้ไขกฎหมายเพื่อลดจานวนความผิดทางอาญา ที่มีบทโทษประหารชีวิต ปั จจุบัน กฎหมายไทยบัญญัติ ความผิดทางอาญาไว้มากถึง 55 ประเภทที่มี บทลงโทษประหารชีวิต โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งความผิดที่ ไม่ถือเป็ น “อาชญากรรมร้ายแรงที่สดุ ” เช่น ความผิด เกี่ยวกับยาเสพติด และการลอบวางเพลิง เป็ นต้น บรรจุวาระการเปลี่ยนแปลงโทษประหารชีวิตเป็ นโทษ จาคุกไว้ในแผนแม่บทว่าด้วยสิทธิมนุษยชน ฉบับที่ 3 ลงนามและให้สัตยาบันรับรองพิธีสารเลือกรับฉบับที่ สองของกติการะหว่างประเทศว่าด้วยสิทธิพลเมือง และสิทธิทางการเมือง (Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights) ที่มง่ ุ ยกเลิกโทษประหารชีวิต

April 22, 2013: Hard Rock Cafe Bangkok celebrated its 22nd Anniversary by launching the party under theme “The Rock & The Legend”. All customers are delightful with support human rights activities by “Tul-Apartment Khun Pa” and “Musketeers”, Artists for Amnesty International Thailand, for promote limitededition the U2 Signature Series: Edition 30 T-shirt, with 15 percent of the retail price to support Amnesty International’s lifesaving human rights campaigning worldwide. Apart from that, Amnesty International Thailand interns took a campaign for freedom of expression on behalf of Pussy Riot. We asked guests to sign and send postcards to President Putin, calling for him to release the band members unconditionally and immediately, respect freedom of expression, conscience and assembly, and ensure that fair trial rights are protected in Russia. Finally, we also asked guests to show their solidarity with Pussy Riot's cause by taking pictures of them with signs and postcards where we later added to Facebook for the guests to comment upon and "like". ‘Rohingya- the Forgotten People’ Over one million ethnic Rohingyan Muslims dwell miserably in the slums of western Myanmar. Recognized by the UN as the world’s most persecuted race, the Rohingyans are ensnared in a contentious blame-game of hot potato between the Myanmarese and Bangladeshi governments, with neither side agreeing to step up and take responsibility. These people are deprived of even the essential necessities of life: including access to basic health care, education and even acceptance as official citizens of Myanmar. How can anyone live contently in a society where marriage is punishable by death? Made outcasts by their own country, the Myanmarese law proclaims Rohingyan marriages illegal in a futile attempt to prevent the ‘proliferation’ of the ethnic Muslim population, and a cruel, heavy ‘marriage tax’ strips them of any meagre savings. The majority of Myanmar consists of Buddhists who believe that today’s Rohingyans are the later generations of illegal Bengali immigrants who had arrived from Bangladesh during the country’s independence in 1948. These misleading views have, for a long time, resulted in on-going tensions between the two races. On June 10th in the state of Rakhine, flames engulfed the sky as 1,336 Rohingyan homes were reduced to ashes by local Buddhists in an act of military and state-supported ‘ethnic cleansing’- a gentler pseudonym for the truth: genocide. 200 Rohingyans were violently massacred, and 110,000 abandoned their homes, petrified for their lives. Pursued, these people are forced to survive in makeshift refugee camps along the outskirts of Myanmar, devoid of any electricity, running water and medical assistance. The Rohingyans are guarded 24/7 by armed military personnel, imprisoned like animals by a barbed wire fence. The scarcity of food has plunged them into a paradoxical famine- they are starving to death while surrounded by paddy fields of rice they cannot lay a hand on. Desperate women are willing to sell their bodies in order to bring food to their dying children’s mouths. In August, Refugee International (a non-governmental organization) predicted that there are currently 2000 ‘acutely malnourished children at a high risk of mortality’ in the camps. Thousands of Rohingya are now illegally fleeing the violence, seeking refuge in Malaysia- a Muslim majority country. “[Escaping] requires undertaking a dangerous voyage across the Indian Ocean often in rickety, overcrowded boats ill-equipped to make the journey,” indicated Maung Kyaw Nu, president of the Burmese Rohingya Association in Thailand, adding, “50% of all boat refugees die on these journeys.” On the 31st of October, a ferry stowing Rohingyan refugees sank, drowning its 130 passengers. Nevertheless, the titanic risks involved do not hinder the Rohingyas- their enthusiasm to escape far outweighs the risks. Entire villages are burnt, innocent people are becoming homeless, women are being raped, their children mercilessly slaughtered every day; yet here we are-demanding the safety of other persecuted groups but not taking real action. It is time for us to train our eyes on Myanmar- for how else can we freely embrace ‘human rights’ and ‘democracy’ in a world that abandons thousands of stateless men and women at sea, their bloated corpses washed ashore; driven away with hatred, scorn and loathing- in a land they have peacefully called ‘home’ for centuries? The most persecuted race in the world. Yet, nobody knows they exist. The Rohingyas are truly the forgotten people.
