Health StayingActive

In the summertime, it's a perfect time to get and stay active, because you have more opportunities to get outside, and do what you love without it feeling like a chore. I hope you'll find these tips inspiring to incorporate a little bit more activity in your daily life this Summer season. Talking to myself here too!

Schedule time to simply walk! Go outside and play!

You might be surprised how you can get carried away walking on a beautiful morning or evening, and burn extra calories at the same time!

Make every way the long way!

The good old days were when we were MADE to go outside and then made to come back in. How about trying to get outside with your kids or friends and playing a game?

Swim time counts!

I love this fact. Time splashing around in the pool counts as activity! It is fun and torches cals!

Everybody knows to take the stairs But what about the other simple steps? Park further away from the store Spend time going through all the aisles looking for something new. Every step is a step in the right direction.

Challenge your friends and family

If you love a good challenge, a friendly competition is a great way to get movin'!

Nicholasville offers a lot to get outside for this time of year I encourage all of you to get out there and enjoy all we have to offer. We have beautiful golf courses and we are the home of the PGA Barbasol tournament that's coming in July!

We are proud to host this PGA event right here at home. We also have the Jessamine County Fair, and the Kentucky Wine and Vine Festival this summer. The Wine and Vine Fest is in June, and the Fair and Barbasol are both in July.

While you're at it, check out our trails and be sure to shop our local businesses in Nicholasville. We are growing and are thankful for the businesses that choose Nicholasville, so let's get out there and support them. Have a great Summer!

Summer time in Wilmore – perhaps a time to slow down, look around and enjoy this community! What can you do?

Take in one of our six summer weekend concert series: Gospel on the Green on Fridays and Stonebridge on Saturdays Some of the best talent in the area is recruited for these concerts, all of which are free thanks to many donors. Concert schedules are available at: www.wilmore.org or www facebook com/wilmorecommunity

Are you a train enthusiast? You will want to visit the Railside Caboose Museum to see the latest train paraphernalia and local history on display The Museum is located on E Main St and is open every Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

Take in our Farmers’ Market, open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at the parking lot on E. Main St , adjacent to the railroad tracts These farmers and craftsmen provide quality locally grown produce and crafted products Look for the “guest vendor” each week: perhaps live music, the Girl Scouts handing out free flower seeds, the County Ag Dept. discussing cooking with fresh veggies, line dancing demonstrations, and more!

Have you seen our commercial district lately? Shops are filled with an outstanding collection of new and antique items – a wide variety and little to no overlap! When finished shopping, grab a cup of coffee or an ice cream cone and sit a spell at the rest area by the Caboose or on one of our benches along E Main Street

Long known for its beautiful hanging baskets, the city continues that tradition along with plantings at public flower beds throughout the community Our many parks provide green space, seating areas and beautiful vistas inviting you to sit and enjoy.

It is summer; the days are filled with sunshine, warmth, and an abundance of things to do. Summers in Jessamine County are even more of a treat with all the community has to give, and the kindness of friends, family and fellow residents to share moments with In addition to the convenience of being centrally located in the Bluegrass, Jessamine County has a lot to offer right in our backyards. From the beautiful parks, to fruitful wineries, from adventurous hiking to relaxing shopping and dining, the county has an abundance of options. For these reasons and many more, I have enjoyed raising my family here, working here, and serving the people of Jessamine County
