HELPING YOU GET YOUR FINANCIAL HOUSE IN ORDER

Serving all of Maryland and the District of Columbia Chapter 13)

“I have attended a few seminars on Estate Planning, and I was aware that I needed to start this process sooner than later. I was fortunate to attend an Estate Planning seminar presented by Suren Adams. I was very impressed with her professionalism, her impeccable knowledge of the subject matter, and the ability to present the information in an understandable language. Suren’s noteworthy credentials speak for themselves, and her service costs are comparable to others in the area. I would highly recommend her service to anyone who is interested in the Estate Planning process. I guarantee that once you attend Suren’s seminar, you will not delay in starting the process today!”

“Mrs. Adams: We want to thank you very much for the diligent work your office has done in finalizing our Trust package, to include notifications to our investment organizations and trustees. We could not be happier for the great legal work you and your staff has done for us. Again, many thanks for bringing everything together in our Trust.”

“caring for life tHrougHout tHe journey witH illness and loss.”

That is the mission of Hospice of the Chesapeake. Since its founding by four volunteers in 1979, the organization has been committed to providing not only care for those living with advanced illness but to making every moment matter in the lives of their patients and families. It has become the largest independent not-for-profit in Maryland,

serving nearly 7,000 patients each year across Anne Arundel, Prince George’s, Charles, and Calvert counties.

Under the leadership of Rebecca Miller, who became President and CEO in February 2024, the not-for-profit has deepened its focus on what she calls the “hope and healing” mission. This initiative

This philosophy not only applies to patients but also extends to caregivers, who often experience stress and even health challenges while supporting their loved ones. Miller stressed that their commitment is to care for life throughout the entire journey with illness and loss—not just at the beginning or end but through every stage. The “hope and healing” initiative is a way to make this journey as positive and supportive as possible for everyone involved. Miller, who has worked in the non-profit sector of hospice and palliative care for the last 25 years, was first introduced to hospice care as a patient care volunteer, caring for a woman in her 80s who was dealing with extensive cancer. Through this experience, Miller grasped the importance of connecting with your patient at a human level and understood that she could make a difference in their lives. “These are everyday people who are dealing with extraordinary circumstances,” she said. “Why would I not help?”

As a former volunteer, Miller recognizes the role that volunteers play in hospice care. “The volunteers always have been, and always will be at the heart of the hospice care.” The organization has hundreds of active volunteers who help with the operations of the hospice including patient care, administrative work, integrative arts, outreach and fundraising. With the help of these volunteers, the organization offers various integrative programs—such as pet therapy, Compassionate Touch, aromatherapy, reiki and music therapy—that help to alleviate anxiety and provide comfort and peace. The goal is to bring a compassionate, whole-person approach to care, helping patients understand their illness’s progression while empowering them and their families to focus on what truly matters. Through these supportive services and the involvement of volunteers and community members, the Hospice of the Chesapeake clinical team can focus on patient-centered care that honors their wishes, their hopes, and what they envision as the best ending to their life.

seeks to encourage people to seek care earlier in their illness’s journey, allowing for a longer period of support that can foster healing—even if a cure is not possible. “Everyone can heal, even if they can’t be cured,” Miller said, highlighting that healing encompasses emotional, psychological, and even spiritual growth, as much as it does physical care.

In every interaction, the Hospice of the Chesapeake strives to fulfill its mission by offering the tools, guidance, and compassionate care that help patients and their families find moments of peace, comfort, and resilience. “We’re here to care for life throughout the journey—not just at the beginning or the end, but all the way through, with hope and healing at the center,” Miller said.

The Heart of Transformation Beautiful You Health and Wellness

Nestled in the heart of the DMV, Beautiful You Health and Wellness is more than a wellness center—it’s a sanctuary of transformation, support, and empowerment. Inspired by Michelle Richardson, a dedicated Registered Nurse with over five years of critical care experience, the center embodies her personal journey of overcoming weight challenges and her professional mission to offer compassionate, preventive care.

“I’ve struggled with my weight since childhood,” Michelle shares “I knew that if I was facing challenges with weight loss, others were likely struggling as well. My experiences, combined with my nursing background,

inspired me to create a place where others could find genuine support, empathy, and solutions.” Her vision for Beautiful You is deeply rooted in her belief that selfcare is not a luxury but an essential investment in one’s health and well-being.

A Personalized Approach to Wellness

At Beautiful You, clients are partners in a shared journey. From the moment you step into the welcoming environment, it’s clear that this is not another one-sizefits-all approach. The center specializes in personalized care for weight loss, cosmetic enhancements, wellness and more — taking time to understand each client’s unique needs and goals.

Services

Offered by Beautiful You:

• Functional Medicine

• Cosmetic Injectables (e.g., Botox)

• IV Therapy and Weight Loss Injections

• Morpheus8 Skin Tightening & Body Contouring

• Supplements

The medical professional team takes a comprehensive approach, addressing the root causes of health challenges rather than merely managing symptoms. Functional medicine, a cornerstone of their services, delves into the “why” behind health issues and encourages clients to make lasting changes. “Our focus is on education and prevention, helping clients shift their mindset, break old patterns and develop healthier, sustainable habits,” Michelle explains.

• Thai Massage and Stretching

• Personal Training

The Many Paths to Wellness

Beautiful You offers a comprehensive range of services designed to nurture both the mind and body. Each service is thoughtfully tailored to help clients feel and live their best selves. Whether it’s achieving weight loss, enhancing appearance through desired cosmetic treatments, or experiencing the profound benefits of Thai massage therapy, which promotes not only physical relief but also mental clarity and a deeper sense of balance and well-being. At Beautiful You, every treatment is part of a holistic strategy to support longterm health, confidence, and vitality.

A Community of Care

Michelle’s commitment extends beyond individual care; “it’s about fostering a supportive community. You need the support of your family, friends, and your provider,” she says. “Lifestyle changes are hard, but with encouragement and guidance they’re possible.”

This ethos of connection is reflected in the center’s hands-on approach. Clients receive regular followups, progress assessments, and personalized recommendations. “We’re always in touch. We are constantly engaged with our clients, encouraging them on their journey,” Michelle says.

The most rewarding moments are about witnessing life-changing transformations. Michelle describes the joy she feels when clients realize their progress:

“When clients come in, look in the mirror or get on the scale, then say that they were finally able to reach their weight loss goal, that is incredible. I love to see people’s faces light up with excitement. To see their continued weight loss, to see their BMI decrease, to see their health improving, that is the reward for me. It’s about helping people change their lives, and there’s no greater feeling than being a part of that journey.”

Michelle’s path to this fulfilling career was shaped by a profound desire to make a difference. “I worked at a law firm before I went into nursing because I got to a point

in my life that I wanted to be able to help others,” she shares, “That internal gratification to help others is what drives me every day.”

A Vision for the Future

As Beautiful You prepares to open a second location in Hyattsville in 2025, Michelle envisions a ripple effect of health and happiness throughout the DMV. “Our goal is to be a wellness center that truly serves the community by focusing on education, prevention, and support,” she says.

Beautiful You is redefining what it means to prioritize self-care, making it an essential part of daily life rather than a luxury. For anyone looking to embark on or enhance their wellness journey, this center offers not just services but also hope, understanding, and the promise of a healthier, more vibrant future.

Elysian Aesthetics and Wellness Article

For all those looking to have a new glow to their skin Kenethia Glenn encourages all in the greater Bowie - Annapolis area to enlist her services. Glenn, the owner of Elysian Aesthetics and Wellness, has operated her clinic for the past six years and has practiced esthetics for 14.

Elysian is a clinical, esthetic and wellness clinic with some of the most popular treatments being the Astrodome facial therapy and the hyperbaric oxygen treatment. Glenn is renowned for her hyperbaric treatment and has received numerous awards for it. In her practice she likes to foster a relationship with each client to understand all of their personal goals clearly. “We get to learn the client. We ask about their goals. That’s where personal communication builds. That’s where this relationship starts to build.”

She described that the first appointment is a virtual intake to establish the bodies and health of the client in addition to the treatment they’d like to pursue. The second appointment is the procedure itself and all following ones are to check their progress. When asked about her personal philosophy with her service Glenn replied, “ I would say, I don’t just stay so focused on just providing a service. I am here to treat. I am here to achieve results each and every time.”

Eventually she would like to expand her business operations by starting a skincare product line. Additionally, this would include health products to fulfill the wellness side of their title. “You can have beautiful skin without treating actual health. So focusing on some of everything from supplements to green skincare products, just anything that helps people with a healthier, better life and feel good about themselves.”

Glenn’s love for skincare dates back to childhood where in a twist of fate she experienced her own blemishes. When she was younger Glenn had severe grade 4 acne and was devastated by it. Her mother took her to see a dermatologist, but after her mom denied the use of Accutane for her daughter, they had to come up with more creative methods. Working with, Dr. Sonnen, who is still Glenn’s current dermatologist, developed a skincare routine to clear her acne day by day until it cleared up.

This regiment inspired her deep interest in aesthetics and wellness. “My face had totally cleared up, not just any medication, but because of the continuous care every single day. You’d be amazed with the changes your body makes when you stay consistent with taking care of it.”

From here Glenn got her masters in kinesthetic and international business before she eventually attended the Institute of Laser Medicine for formal training. The combination of this schooling and taking internships at the top laser companies around the world solidified her decision to open Elysian. Before opening, Glenn knew that she didn’t want to work in a plastic surgeon’r or spa, but instead wanted to

try something innovative. “ I wanted to have a specific reach and if I was going to work in that environment, I wanted to do something special and truly effective for men and women.”

During the COVID - 19 pandemic Glenn’s practice exclusively offered clinical skincare consultations, but after it ended she opened her first clinic.Upon opening her mom and sister came to show support and receive treatment as well. She spoke on how much their support means. “ I’m a big family person. I love my family with every inch of my soul.” She noted that the pandemic had its limitations, but despite the distance she had with her clients they followed her treatment and were able to receive the reward from it.

“ What was amazing about that experience was the people. I felt like you were forced to because the physical aspect was gone . I was able to have some very, very, very wonderful clients that were dedicated to their self - care.”

Four years out of the pandemic and with a growing business this is Glenn’s message to our entire audience.

“We’re here to help the people of Bowie, Annapolis, and this entire area and I can’t wait to meet you!”
