Preface

由於社會運動, 每次抗爭後會出現大量難以處理的資源. 其中包括利用雜物造成的路障. A lots of hard-to-reused resourses appeared after protest, one of them is the road blocks combined by different sundries.

隨着運動愈趨強烈, 可以再用的資源愈來愈少, 當中有大量被燻黑的鐵欄桿. When the protest become intense, the resources that can be reused become lesser. Including large amount of smoked iron fence.

Hong Kong City

One of the characteristic of Hong Kong Buildings are very tall and condense. Thus i’m thinking, is there any chances to make it fun and more local?

Task 03 - City & Urban Fabrics -

24 The Background is collage of a lot of high-rise buildings. Tall and condense skyscrapers representing Hong Kong.

This is the elements of “leisure chess” ( 康樂棋 ), which is a classic chess game in Hong Kong. Players need to dice and walk til the destination. There are some facilities in the board, which can let you go faster if your chess stepped there.

Wanchai Blue House

Blue House refers to a 4-storey balcony-type tenement block located at 72-74A Stone Nullah Lane, Wan Chai. It is named after the blue colour painted on its external walls. It is one of the few remaining examples of tong lau of the balcony type in Hong Kong and is listed as Grade I historic building.

Historic Background The building was the original site of the first hospital ‘Wah To Hospital’ (aka “Wan Chai Kai Fong Hospital”), which was built in the 1870s in Wan Chai. The hospital, which provided Chinese medical services to local Chinese, was possibly the first hospital in the district. The building was acquired by the government in the 1970s, and in 1990 the outer walls were painted blue, thus earning it the name Blue House.

Typolopy and Site Context For a building which contained a lot of histories, it is suitable to create a cultural and educational space, including some events and exhibitions areas.

Reflective Statement Blue House was unveiled by the Housing Society and the Urban Renewal Authority, to preserve nine Chinese-style buildings in Wan Chai that were constructed during the 1920s. It closed for renovation in 2015, then fully renovated and opened in 2016. As most of the place is now using for “B&B”, it would not allow a large amount of people to experience the place at the certain time, thus a would be kind of waste of the place. Therefore I suggest it would be a retail which contained local stores to increase people flow, at the same time including some events and exhibitions areas, in order to attract more visitors. For the types of stores in the location, it would be suitable for some local craftmenship stores. As Blue House is a “human-warmth” construction, some enterprise hegemony brands are kind of not match with place. For the upcoming design stage, as the building is a Grade I historical building, it would be a constraint when applying the design. But on the other hand, it would be very interesting if can keep the traditional construction design combining with the new design. And for a mall, the scale is a bit small. The balance of the retail strategy (zone planning of each different types of areas) would be essential. For the continuous planning, buildings nearby could be included, renovated to allow more local stores to move in. In order to form a small community sharing the same value.

61 project goal Seven months of unrest have taken a heavy toll on many Hong Kong businesses, but pro-democracy protesters are now seeking to reward shops and restaurants that support their cause by building a “yellow” economy. `In contrast, “blue” pro-government and pro-China businesses are frequent targets for vandalism or boycotts.
