SILVIA PORTFOLIO RIGHETTI

Hi, I’m Silvia Righetti. I was born and grew up in a town on the Adriatic sea, in Italy. I moved to Bologna to pursue my dream to become an illustrator and comic artist. There, I got both bachelor’s in “Comic and Illustration” and a master’s in “Comic’s Language”. In the meantime, I founded an independent comic label called Brace and discovered a passion for visual design. Between my degrees, I took the chance to make some traineeships abroad, first in Hamburg and then in Berlin. For five years, I’ve worked as a freelance illustrator and visual designer. What I love the most is telling stories behind the drawings I make. I always find a creative solution to communicate in the best way a concept and this is one of the things that I love most about my profession. I love to work with new people and I’m eager to explore every creative field, from digital to analog. I like traveling, reading novels and comics, watching tv-series, eating gelato and stalking dogs.

DOSSIER #19 LOSLASSEN

Brigitte Magazin, the lead women magazine’s in Germany, contacted me to create five illustrations and the cover for the #19 Dossier for the September issue. The topic, “Loslassen” (Letting go), is investigated through five articles that touch many aspects of the everyday life of each of us. My challenge was to translate the subject into illustration effectively, adding a visual atmosphere. I chose bright colors to express the powerfulness of the messages and catch the eye of the reader.

IL SOLITARIO DI RODRUGUEZ

ILLUSTRATION Risma is a publishing house specialized in young readers’ literature. They approached me to create a cover for their new release, “Il Solitario di Rodriguez”. I drew the cover for the main publication and a special edition for the customers that purchased the book from Risma’s website. The two illustrations were used to create merchandise for the book release.

BUCCIA BY BEATRICE

Buccia is a small independent brand of handmade products and tapestry, founded by the crochet artist Beatrice Petrecca. She approached me to create a brand identity for her products and Instagram account. The logo I drew for her recalls her first launch (Giuditta collection), a funny and playful character that symbolizes Beatrice’s approach to her work. I created the logo font following the same concept. Then, we proceeded to print customized labels and fabric to add to her products. Deliverables included the social media assets. You can find Buccia here .

L’AFFAIRE TINTIN PODCAST

In March 2021, Alessio Trabacchini, editor and comic-historian, and Fulvio Risuleo, movie director and screenwriter, released their six-episode podcast “L’affaire Tintin”. Each episode navigates the world of one of the most famous comic authors, Herge, and his character, Tintin. The host and sponsor of the project, Stendhal bookshop of Rome, asked me to create a podcast cover and contents for the promotion on social. I decided to draw Alessio and Fulvio in Herge’s style and recreate the title font from the original comics. In the end, I drew some additional illustrations for promotion and decided on the palette (blue and yellow) to use on social media to make the contents visually coherent. You can listen to “L’Affaire Tintin” here .

DANCING CHICKENS

In June 2021, I decided to learn more printing techniques, so I asked the Berlin-based risograph studio, Melomelo print, to help me achieve this goal. I created a two-color print inspired by a scene from Werner Herzog’s movie Stroszek. I printed a limited edition of 50 pieces, which now are sold out.

LA CACCIATA TRAILER

La Cacciata was an assignment to create a fake trailer of a story I wrote. It narrates a relationship between mother and daughter while in the background aliens landed on Earth. I started from a storyboard and animated the pictures mixing the technique of rotoscope and After Effects. Then I edited the video, polishing it and adding sounds.
