With the holiday season fast approaching, residents of Hardin County are getting ready to embark on yet another busy shopping season. However, with the economy in its current condition, several families in the area as well within the entire U.S. are faced with a problem that no

family should ever be faced withhunger. Students in Hardin County put their good thoughts of helping others into action and several schools have launched can food drives around the county. These kids have together gathered an immense amount of food and will no doubt help many families alleviate some of that worry this holSee GIVING on PG. 8, SEC. 1

Earlier this month, Jan and I ventured to Branson, Missouri for a few days. The side benefit was an opportunity to drive through the hill country as the tree leaves were turning many shades of yellow and red. A few evergreens were mixed in and the whole country was painted with the majesty of a paint brush that only God can handle. The week was the start of the Christmas season in Branson and the Christmas emphasis served to get Jan and I in the mood. Many of the stars who perform in Branson are aging stars who were the TV stars of the days when Jan and I were growing up. Today they are in their latter years. Things were seen in different eyes as far as Jan and I were concerned. She grew up watching Lawrence Welk and the Lennon sisters when they were child performers on those shows. My family did not have a TV until I was 16 years old and I never realized that the Lennon sisters were child stars. By the time I started watching they were young adults. This was well after they broke into fame on the Lawrence Welk show and later on the Mickey Mouse

Club. The first show we attended was the the Lennon sisters Christmas show. The sisters are from a family of eleven children and many of them moved to Branson in a move by 29 family members 30 years ago. Two of the sisters have now retired but a younger sister has replaced them and they are now a trio. Two of the members of the trio are about 63 and 67 but they still put on a good show. As they say everything is relative and as we get older some of those older women begin looking better. They performed with their grandchildren and really had a good show. Later we attended a performance by Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers. The first hour of the show was by Debbie Boone. Each of the shows had a Christmas theme and Boone's talents were much more geared to the Christmas theme than the Garlin brothers. The show had a big crowd and it was pretty good. Later in the week we went to see the Andy Willliams show. Now I can remember Andy Williams. He and his friend Bing Crosby were two of the greatest singers I ever heard. Andy is no longer there but I guess he will always be a part of the moon river activities. The show is now a variety show with a number of different performers. Several groups performed including the Cat's Pajamas, Dean Church, the world's fastest fiddler, American Idol finalist Katie Stevens, Allen Asbury and a new young trio of two brothers and a sister. The girl 12 year old Nadias Cole is outstanding and the group, Coixwa of Glory made their name on "America's Got Talent." We also took time to watch the "Legend of Kung Fu" a drama about a young boy whose mother took him to the temple to study to become a monk and how he developed his kung fu skills. That show started in China about the time of the Olympics. It will be performing in Branson until about the first of the year and then it will travel on. While we were there we went to Springfield (about 35 miles away) and visited the original Bass Pro Shop. We also spent a day at Silver Dollar City. It was the start of their Christmas season. The

crowds were huge and we spent the entire day watching three shows. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens was a great musical. It has a fantastic stage and was worth the wait. Fortunately we did not wait. We went there first when we entered the gates and walked right in. Later we saw "It's a Good Life" the story about Charles Bailey. This is a heartwarming story about a man who spent his life doing good for others, and then in the end, when he was in trouble, an angel attempting to earn his wings came to save him. Everyone responded to let him know how grateful they were for the things he had done for them earlier. We have all seen this story and in many ways it touches all of us. As many of you know I went to high school in Fort Smith Arkansas which is probably not over 150 miles from Branson. The trip was pleasant and Jan and I had a great time. ALONG OTHER LINES. … Saturday the junior football Superbowl took place at Tiger Stadium. Jante Miller had asked me to come so I went by the field and took in a few photos of the games. I immediately began running into people who I had written about over the years. Quincy Kelly, Chris Miller, and many others. Then as the kids came on the field I saw names J. Miller, D. Miller, Fobbs, Garrett, Harris, Valencia. I never lived in the same town for more than four years until I was in my 30's. Then from the time I was 27 until 37, I lived in Colorado. This stay was a lifetime stay for me. In January 1991, I moved to Silsbee. There are now high school kids playing sports who I wrote about their parents when they were in high school. There are only two coaches at SHS who were there when I moved here. Bobby Woodard who I thought was coach Charlie's son, but it turned out that he was his brother, and Coach Joe Sigler, who took a break for about 10 years. I have heard them speak of coaching the children of the kids they coached when they first started. Shoot. Bobby must be close to coaching the grandchildren. He is really long in the tooth. I've been writing as long as he has been coaching, but I have been in three places. Some of the people who I wrote about when I first started are now retired.

Reeves and Swafford attacked....with Silly String

By Andrea Whitney reporter@silsbeebee.com Tensions were high Friday afternoon at Kirby Elementary in Silsbee as every student and teacher were ushered into the cafeteria. Student after student filed in with faculty members in tow. Students and teachers alike have anticipated this afternoon gathering for awhile now. Preparations have been made and the time has come. Let the "Silly String War" begin. Students at Kirby Elementary began a canned good and non-perishable food drive in early November and were on their way to a successful start Principal Robbie when Reeves and Vice Principal Cody Swafford up'd the ante. Reeves and Swafford offered to allow the winning class who collected the most canned goods to attack them with none other than silly string. That was an offer no kid could ever pass up and I'm not sure many adults could either. Not only would the students be able to silly string their principal and vice principal, but Swafford also offered to sleep on the roof of the school for one night if the students reach their goal. Of course, they did. So, Friday afternoon, teachers and faculty brought a school full of excited students into the cafeteria to let the fun begin. Reeves and Swafford were seated center stage and students filled the cafeteria. After going over safety rules, the winning class was issued about 50 cans of silly string and told to prepare to attack. Teachers were also on the side to offer support and extra cans if need be. After a couple of minutes of shaking the cans up, the kids were escorted onto the stage. Reeves and Swafford held their breath and the kids let loose. Silly string covered both from head to toe. It also covered every inch of the stage and floor below. Students went through all the cans of silly string and

Cody Swafford, Kirby Elementary Vice Principal prepares for a chilly night on the roof of Kirby Elementary. Swafford agreed to spend an entire night in a tent atop the school roof if students reached their goal in a holiday can food drive.

Reeves and Swafford were literally covered. Next up, the entire school gathered outside to watch Swafford ascent to the roof.

There waiting for him was a small tent and I hope a lot of blankets. Swafford waved and acknowledged each class individually and thanked them for

their hard work. After school dismissed for the day, he settled in for quite a chilly night.

LU computer science students place in Top 20 Three Lamar University computer science majors placed in the Top 20 at the Association on Computing Machinery’s South Central Regional Programming Contest at Louisiana State University, Oct. 19-20. Two student teams represented Lamar at the competition. The first Lamar team, called Cardinals, placed 19th overall out of 58 teams from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Mississippi. “In fact, this team outperformed some teams from Texas A&M, UTDallas and Rice University,” said Stefan Andrei, associate professor of computer science. “The ACM ICPC contest is the most important computer programming competition in the world,” Andrei said. The Cardinals team members, Zebulun Barnett of Lumberton, Matthew Williamson of Hardin, and Reza Shakouri

from Beaumont bettered all teams from McNeese University, Abilene Christian University, Texas Christian University, University of Houston, and many more. Lamar’s second team, called Mirabeaus, represented by Michael Waterstreet of Beaumont, Demetrius Taylor of Dayton, and J.T. Copeland of Santo placed 40th in the competition. At the competition, each team was assigned a single computer to work on and eight challenging programming problems to solve in a fivehour period. One team member was responsible for implementing a program on the computer while the other two worked out other problems on paper. The solution was then submitted to the judges electronically. Teams were judged based on the number of problems

solved correctly. If more than one team solved the same number of problems, they were ranked according to the time it took to solve the problem. “The results were very good for Lamar,” said Andrei, who holds a Ph.D. from Hamburg University. “Our teams practiced during September and October by solving similar exercises from previous contests and from an excellent textbook.” Andrei, who also serves as Advisor to Lamar’s ACM Chapter and the students spent many hours outside the classroom to improve their skills. “I am very proud of our students,” he said. “This kind of collegiate contest is not only important for LU students in general, but also can help those who participate in finding future employment.”

Be aware of wildfire threat during hunting season

With hunting season under way and some areas of the state still recovering from last year’s drought, Texas Forest Service officials are urging

caution for those heading outdoors. Hunters should refrain from building campfires and burning debris during windy or dry conditions. More than 90 Texas counties currently are under a . Keep in mind the following wildfire safety tips: • If there is no burn ban in place and conditions are right, you may safely build a camp-

fire. But keep the fire small, never leave it unattended and remove flammable leaves and other materials from the area surrounding the fire. • Make sure the fire is extinguished and cold to the touch before you leave it. • Clear combustible materials and vegetation away from your camp house to reduce the likelihood of a wildfire to spread.

Winning classes at Read-Turrentine will be given an ice cream party once they reach their goal of 2,500 cans. Kirby Elementary gave their winning class the ultimate satisfaction upon winning. The winning class was able to attack Principal Robbie Reeves and Vice Principal Cody Swafford with silly string. Yes, that is correct, silly string. Vice Principal Swafford also made a bet with the school, that should they reach their goal, which they undoubtedly did, he would sleep on the roof of the school. Details are currently in the works of what the students will be doing throughout the holidays. Other schools in the county are also either doing food drives, or planning for other types of fundraisers to help the community. Evadale and Kountze are working with their student council officers and members to organize activities for students to help families in the area. Lumberton Primary School has held a contest for its first, second and third grade classes to collect can goods also. The can goods were donated to the Caring Hearts Center in Lumberton and will be distributed to families in the area. The LISD schools also work closely with the Civic Women's League to sponsor families in the area with a Thanksgiving basket, complete with all the trimmings, needed for a complete holiday meal. With the holidays approaching in such an unsure financial time, these local students have stepped up to the plate to ensure a wonderful season for all.

suspects Curtis Dewayne Glaze, 22 and Joshua James Glaze, 26, began trying to stop Drake and cut him off, witness statements state. Drake was able to get around the suspects and attempted to turn his truck around to head back towards Lumberton but ended up heading towards Kountze on Highway 326. Spears went on to state that several shots were fired at Drake's vehicle with one being fatal. One or two other shots struck the vehicle but did not injure the other two passengers. Upon Drake being shot, the 17-year old male passenger grabbed the steering wheel in an effort to gain control of the vehicle. The vehicle veered off the highway and went over an embankment before coming to a stop. The two teens then fled to the nearby woods to call 911 and waited for help to arrive, Spears stated. The teens were able to give officers on the scene a vehicle and Hardin description County deputies, together with the Sour lake constable and the Texas Department of Public Safety found the suspects on Glaze Road and took them into custody. They were transported to the Hardin County Sheriff's Office for

questioning. After questioning the suspects, who Spears said were cooperating with officials, were then booked into the Hardin County Jail on murder charges. Bond is set at $850,00 each for both Curtis Glaze and Joshua Glaze. Spears stated that there has been no established connection between the victims and suspects nor has their been a motive established. An autopsy has been ordered and the investigation is ongoing. "This appears random. We have not found a connection but we are still looking for one and investigating," Spears state. "It seems so far to have been a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. There is no clear cut motive but we will continue to investigate.” Drake was a resident of Lumberton and was a former Raider football player for three years of his high school career. Drake was attending Lamar University and is listed as a mechanical engineering student, according to Brian Sattler with Lamar University. Joshua Glaze and Curtis Glaze both live on Glaze Road in Hardin County and are cousins, according to Hardin County Sheriff Office Chief Deputy, Kenny Davenport.

Silsbee slams Huffman in 3A-DI bidistrict win Offensive and defensive lines pave way to record nights on both sides of ball.

By Daniel Elizondo editor@silsbeebee.com

BEAUMONT – Silsbee pulled out all its weapons and played seamlessly on both sides of the ball to notch a first round win for the Tigers. Silsbee (9-2) rebounded from an emotional loss to West Orange-Stark to close out regular season play and took it all out on the hapless Huffman-Hargrave Falcons 54-21 at Provost Umphrey Stadium at Lamar University on Friday. Silsbee will advance to UIL class 3A Div. I regional round to face Stafford on Friday at Turner Stadium in Humble with a 1 p.m. kickoff. Stafford is coming off of a 4220 win over Houston Yates to advance to the second round to face Silsbee. The Tigers got a strong offensive effort from junior quarterback Patrick Reed, who worked

the zone read offense soundly against Huffman on Friday. Reed accounted for 339 yards of offense including 150 yards rushing on 20 carries with two touchdowns, and also completed 10 passes for 189 yards and two TDs. “We just came in here and did what we had to do,” said Reed after his stellar performance. “I couldn’t do it without all my guys up-front. They make the plays happen for me.” Silsbee’s offensive line was powerful in the win, paving the way to the Tiger’s 425 yards of offense against the Huffman defense. But defense did its part in the win, making it difficult for the high-powered pass attack of the Falcons to get into a rhythm. Highly touted Huffman QB Preston Townley managed his 254 yards passing but was sacked four times by the Silsbee defense

and picked off four times, three by senior DB Montana Garcia. “We knew that all they were going to do was pass,” said Garcia. “We had to put him (Townley) under pressure to get a chance at making a play. We came together as a team and had a lot of fun.” After Silsbee had taken a 7-0 lead on its second possession of the game, Huffman looked to work the field as anticipated and drove downfield to the Silsbee 9yard line in six plays. On a first and goal pass, Townley looked for his no. 1 receiver Chase Harrell in the corner of the end zone but Garcia read the play perfectly and picked off the pass. After a Silsbee punt, Huffman once again looked to tie the game but fell short once again, this time with Karl Elers coming up with the Tigers’ second INT of the game at the Huffman 47-yard line.

Montana Garcia had a broken finger and did not play receiver Friday night. Instead he concentrated on defense and had a fabulous evening as he came away with three interceptions including this theft of a touchdown on the goal line. The Tiger defense dominated the Falcons all evening.

After two Falcon penalties moving Silsbee into scoring position, Reed found Jordan Holmes on a swing pass for the 27-yard TD with 49 seconds in the first quarter and a Tiger 13-0 lead. Silsbee’s defense stepped up and put the pressure on Townley, who was sacked for the third time of the game, this time by Johnathan Rodgers to open the second quarter. Silsbee took over on downs at their own 2-yard line. Four plays later, Reed made a miraculous pass to receiver Chris Elam all alone downfield after avoiding a sack and the two connected on a 79-yard strike. Floyd Spearman added a 2-point run to help increase the Silsbee lead 21-0 with 7:35 in the second quarter. Silsbee defense forced Huffman to punt on the ensuing possession and Holmes did his work on special teams with a 49-yard punt return for a TD with 6:29 remaining to the half and leading 27-0. In the third quarter, Huffman drove down on its first posses-

sion and quickly scored on a 2yard run by Darion Gray to cut into Silsbee’s lead 27-7. The Tigers answered back with a 19-yard run by Reed. Lazaro Vasquez kick gave Silsbee a 34-7 lead with 8:42 in the third quarter. Huffman wouldn’t lay down and scored in less than a minute on a 20-yard pass from Townley to Gray to cut into Silsbee’s lead once again 34-14. Silsbee used a 9-play drive that was capped with a 2-yard buck by Spearman to answer Huffman’s score, and increase the lead 41-14 with 2:29 in the third quarter. In the drive, Reed was injured momentarily with a stinger where Kendrick Scott took over for four plays. On the Falcon’s first play from scrimmage on the ensuing drive, Garcia picked off Townley for the second time, this one at the Silsbee 32-yard line and returning it to the Silsbee 45-yard line. Eight plays later, Spearman scored his second TD of the game on a 3-yard jaunt for a 47-

14 lead to begin the fourth quarter. With the score 47-21, Silsbee scored its final touchdown on a 7-yard run by Yancy Brydson, who finished with 42 yards on nine carries. Huffman was slowed on the ensuing possession after Townley suffered a fourth sack by Silsbee in the game, this one by Roderick Harper, his second sack of the evening. Johnathan Rodgers and Seth Adams provided the other sacks for the Tigers. Silsbee ran down the clock before Huffman’s final possession ended in Garcia picking off Townley at the Silsbee 36-yard line to end the game. Silsbee held Huffman’s rush game to four total yards. Friday will be a change of pace for Silsbee defense, now looking to stop a bull-rushing Stafford offense led by Adrian Seales, who has accumulated 1,818 yards with 21 TDs in 11 games. The Spartans finished in third place in Dist. 24-3A behind La Marque and West Columbia.

Each year, the expectations are the same as teams all across Texas open their season and look towards the second week in November as playoffs get started. For the Evadale Rebels, hope sprang, and even with a 3-7 record in the regular season and a 2-2 district record, they believed they could erase some of the disappointments by making some noise in the playoffs. But it was not meant to be as Bremond had their sights set on ending the Rebels season 47-6 in a bidistrict playoff on Friday. Things looked hopeful as they Rebels kicked off to Bremond, and recovered a fumble giving Evadale the first drive of the

game. The Rebels picked up an initial first down but the drive stalled and the ball went over on downs after an incomplete pass on a fake punt. Bremond then scored on their first and second possessions of the first quarter to have a 13-0 lead as the end of the first quarter neared. An interception by the Rebels Jacob Conner as the quarter expired kept the Rebels from falling further behind. In the second quarter, Bremond returned a punt for their third TD and a 19-0 lead. Bremond would score two more times before halftime to extend their lead to 33-0 while the Rebels had only made it across

midfield only once. In the third quarter, Bremond scored on two runs of 30-plus yards each to move the score to 47-0. But the Rebels never gave up, scoring on a 5-yard run from Logan Hare out of the swinging gate formation to bring the final score to 47-6. “We knew we would have to play a great game and move the ball when we got opportunities, we just did not capitalize on things like recovering the fumble on the opening kickoff,” said Head Coach Mark Williams. “The Rebels had two seniors in uniform for the game which is a large number, but the Rebels have 10 players that will be returning for the 2013 season that

have starting experience on at least one side of the ball.” This season marks the seventh straight year that the Rebels have made the playoffs which is a record for the school. It is also one of the best records for just about any team in the area for playoff appearance over the same time span. Williams concluded by saying, “This group of seniors gave everything they had to our program over their four years. They have had some great successes while they have been playing and they have continued a tradition of playoff football. I know they won’t want to put the pads away any more than I want.”

The Silsbee Tigers kick their season off with a pair of impressive wins over 4A squads

Silsbee opened the year with a 60-48 win over PNG and then topped that with a 55-22 win over a highly regarded Beaumont Central squad. Many consider Central to have one of the finest 4A squads in the area. Silsbee went into this game with two starters and a partial starter on the floor off last year’s team. The Tigers trailed easy but exploded for 21 points in the second quarter to take a 32-22 lead at the half. Danti Wilson, a 5-6 guard, led the second quarter explosion with 11 points. He hit for 19 in the first half and did not score in the second. He drove the lane repeatedly and forced his way to the free throw lane where he made 15 of 19 free throw attempts. During the third quarter, Silsbee outscored Central 127 and at one point had an 18 point lead. However, Central began to claw their way back into the game. With Wilson pretty much shut down in the second half, Da Vaughn Thomas, who started last season before transferring to Port Arthur Memorial, found the range for seven third quarter points. Jacob Dobbins hit a three in the third and then he came back to hit another three in the fourth and chip in seven fourth quarter points.

Central outscored the Tigers 23-11 in the fourth quarter but they could not make up the deficit that they had gotten into during the first three periods. Wilson took scoring honors in the game with 19 points. Thomas hit for 17 and Dobbins 10. An assortment of young players played in the game. Eric Wallace hit for four, Deontre Haynes scored three and Dontre Thomas finished with two. Central was led by N. Pearson with 15 and E. Willridge 12. Pearson had nine in the fourth and Willridge hit for seven in the period. Central had 13 two point field goals to ten for Silsbee. They outscored the Tigers from three point range 12-9

but the Tigers made 26 of 43 free throw attempts to claim the victory. Central was only 12 of 17 from the charity stripe. DaVaughn Thomas was huge in the game he had 17 rebounds. Coach Joe Sigler was extremely happy with the game. He stated, “We beat a team that I was considering there was no way we could win. Central is a good team. They will be a force in Region 3. “ The PNG game was a little different. Silsbee took a 16-8 lead in the first quarter. PNG came back to take the lead at the half 32-31. This game was even after three periods at 42-42. Silsbee won the game in the fourth period when they outscored PNG 18-6. Wilson was the high point

man with 18 points. Austin Jenkins who hit three three point baskets in the game was in double figures with 13 points. DaVaughn Thomas hit for 12 and Dobins scored nine. Other Tigers who scored included Eric Wallace with six, and Cedric Irvin with two. The Tigers had 12 twopoint field goals and eight three-point baskets. PNG had 13 two’s and four three’s. Silsbee was 10 of 21 at the free throw line and PNG was 10 of 24. AJ Smith was the high point man for PNG with 17 points. This week the Tigers will play Kountze in the Fred Williams Classic on Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. Then on Monday Nov. 26, the Tigers will travel to Houston to play Houston Kashmere.

Former Kountze players hit gridiron again as alumni The Kountze vs East Chambers Alumni Football Game will take place in Kountze at 5 p.m. Sun Dec 9. The game will be open to all alumni from Kountze and will be full contact, full pads. Kountze will also host the Hardin-Jefferson vs Burkeville alumni game at 2 p.m. the same day.

Lady Rebels split games

By Scott Loar The Evadale Lady Rebel basketball team got off to a fast start of the season as they won four games to capture last weekend’s Warren Lady Warrior Tournament. This week they took on two Jasper County teams as they traveled to Kirbyville on Tuesday and hosted Buna on Saturday. Against Kirbyville, the outcome was decided early as the Lady Rebels took care of business in the first half building a 15-point lead at halftime 2914. The Lady Rebel defense has been outstanding in most of their early season games as they have held teams to single digit points in more than half of the quarters they have played so far this season. Against the Lady Wildcats, the Lady Rebels held them to four points in the first quarter and two in the third quarter. The final score was 50-31 with the Lady Rebels playing their entire bench in the final quarter and a half. Jessica Seago led the scoring with 14 points with 12 of those coming from beyond the 3-point arc. She was four of six shooting from long distance with five rebounds. Kennedy Jackson has 12 points, Kennedy Porter and Haleigh Oldbury each had six points and Savannah Richardson contributed six rebounds. The Lady Rebels had to play the Lady Cougars in their first home game without sen-

ior wing, Britnee Rawls who was injured in practice on Thursday. She is waiting on test results to know her status moving forward. The Lady Cougars came out offensively doing things that the Lady Rebels had not allowed in any of their first five games. The Lady Cougars put up 16 points in both the first and second quarters while the Lady Rebels only scored 16 in the first half. But the Lady Rebels battled back as they held Buna to only two points in the third quarter and nine in the fourth and

scoring 25 in the half to fall two points shy of tying the score. The Lady Cougars handed the Lady Rebels their first loss of the season 43-41. Jackson had 23 points and 12 rebounds. She was also 13 of 14 from the free throw line. Richardson had six points and eight rebounds as the freshmen is carving out a place on this team. Hannah Conner and Seago both added four points. Coach Robert Hollyfield said, “We still have more games than practices and we See REBELS on PG. 5, SEC. 2

The leagues in turn receive funds and equipment. The soccer leagues are sent certificates that can be redeemed at the dealer’s store for a free soccer ball during a 30-day promotional period, while supplies last. After a 60-day tire rebate promotion included on the certificate, Michelin donates $2 to the soccer organization for each tire sold during the program. The Silsbee Garden Club met Nov. 13 in the First Baptist Church parking lot for a trip to the Kirby-Hill House Museum in Kountze to tour the house and have lunch. Eighteen members and three visitors, Janie Rayner, Patsy Gerngross and Marleen Lacy, attended. James Kirby, the older brother of John Kirby, and business partner of the timber industry, had the home built in 1902, by Beaumont architect Frank T. Smith. The house has 3,500 square feet, with three upstairs bedrooms and bathroom. Downstairs there is a library, two sitting parlors, dining room, bathroom and kitchen. The most fascinating features include the curved walls and oval grand staircase. The house has many of the original items from when the home was built. Average retail gasoline prices in Texas have fallen 2.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.14 per gallon at the beginning of the week. This compares with the national average that has fallen 3.2 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.43 per gallon, according to gasoline price website TexasGasPrices.com. Including the change in gas prices in Texas during the past week, prices yesterday were 1.2 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 30.5 cents per gallon lower than a month ago. The national average has decreased 26.4 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 6.5 cents per gallon higher

than this day one year ago. “With Thanksgiving just days away, Americans will be hitting major thoroughfares en masse. While gasoline prices have dropped in the last month and a half, the national average will still come close to breaking a recordthe highest ever national average for Thanksgiving,” said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. “I don’t really see how gas prices could greatly improve between now and Christmas, given the new military action in the Middle East, and other pressures. It’s all but certain the national average will not drop under $3.25 per gallon, which could lead to a perilous start to 2013,” DeHaan said.
