THIS IS ME
Hi, my name is Silke I’m a graduate master student in product development at the university of Antwerp. And this is my portfolio. In this portfolio you will find a small summary of all the projects I have done during my studies and some information to get to know me better.

DISINFECTION UNIT ‘DEVELOP A UNIT THAT HELPS IMPROVE HAND HYGIENE AT FESTIVALS AND EVENTS’
EXPLORATION A great exploration has been done to get to know the different techniques for a better handhygiëne. Based on surveys, interviews and desk research, the current problems and the needs of the users were uncovered.
ANALYSIS

P95: 21,18cm
In the analysis, the chosen hand cleaning techniques were examined in more detail, as well as the positioning of the units, technical content and the interaction between the unit and the user. This was done through desk research, user scenarios and experiments.
CONCEPT A mobile interactive hand disinfection unit with the possibility to simultaneously serve 3 users.

SITTING FURNITURE ‘CREATE A PIECE OF FURNITURE FOR A NEW SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT THAT MEETS THE NEEDS AND WISHES OF TODAY’S STUDENTS.’
EXPLORATION On the basis of surveys and observations, the deeper needs and wishes of the current students were investigated in order to identify the opportunities and to be able to respond to them in this project. When these needs and wishes were known, they were poured into mood boards, to further include these in the analytic phase.
ANALYSIS
11
Once the needs and wishes of the students were captured, the real design process can begin. In order to find out the correct dimensions, prototypes were made and ergonomic tests were carried out.
CONCEPT A modular and multifunctional seating furniture that allows students to relax, study and socialize all in one place
13
KITCHEN TOOL ‘DESIGN A ERGONOMICAL KITCHEN TOOL AND CREATE THE RIGHT BRANDING’
EXPLORATION In this project research was done on different techniques to remove pips. Furthermore, the exploration also looked for possible designs for the handles.
ANALYSIS
15
In the analysis, the ergonomics of the different possible handle designs were examined on the basis of a few prototypes. To find out which one is considered the most ergonomic. Based on these tests, any findings regarding forces and ergonomic dimensions were reviewed and adjusted if necessary.
CONCEPT An ergonomic olive pitter that is part of the Brut outdoor cooking product line

CARTOON ‘MAKE A 3D SOLIDWORKS MODEL OF A CARTOON OF CHOISE’
I chose the whale shark Destiny from the movie finding Dory Since Destiny has a very organic shape, it was completely made using surface modelling Three realistic renders were made in an appropriate environment
19
SPEAKER ‘DESIGN A SPEAKER COLLECTION CONSISTING OF A BASIC MODEL, HIGH-END MODEL AND FIGURATIVE MODEL’
The aim of this project was to create a basic model of a speaker from which a high end model and a figurative model could be made by means of a configuration. For the basic model, a hexagonal shape was chosen. The high-end model got a longer stretched hexagonal shape and legs. And finally the figurative model was made in the shape of an owl. The 3 models were made from a combination of plastic and cork.

HYBRIDE ‘DEVELOP A PRODUCT THAT COMBINES DIGITAL AND ANALOG INTERACTIONS’
EXPLORATION The exploration phase consisted of an investigation into possible interactions and designs. This was done on the basis of brainstorm sessions, sketches and mood boards.
ANALYSIS
23
In this phase, physical models were created to try out the various previously invented interactions. These tests were used to decide which interactions are suitable to include in further the design process.
CONCEPT Nada is a music player that digitally plays and displays the music but interacts with the user in an analogous way

leaf trough songs
2. now a song can be selected. To choose a song you have to leaf through the different discs. where the different songs will be shown on the basis of a transparent display. Refers to choosing a record from a record tray
spin the disc
3. to play the selected song the disc will be spinned around. This is also a reference to an analog record player.
DESIGN PROJECTS ‘IN THIS SECTION YOU WILL FIND A SHORT SUMMARY OF DESIGN PROJECTS I HAVE DONE OVER THE YEARS’
27
SKETCHING
Handmade sketches are often used when quick visualizations are required.
29
Digital sketches, on the other hand, are more likely to be made at the end of a design process when the design is more or less fixed. This sketch form takes a little more time but often also looks more realistic.

SKILLS
LEISURE
33 In my spare time I spend a lot of time in a youth movement. I have been a leader at Chiro since 2016. This is a youth movement for children from 6 to 18 years old. Here I learned many skills such as taking initiative, perseverance and dealing with difficult situations. These skills have already helped me a lot in my studies in meeting deadlines and dealing with fellow students, subjects and teachers.
I also love being active and spending a lot of time outside in nature. For example, I make many sporting trips such as surf trips, climbing trips, snowboard trips,... I also love camping, going back to the basics for a while.
