La Necton, società di ricerca marina, porta avanti per il quarto anno uno studio sui mammiferi marini che frequentano le acque dell’arcipelago delle Isole Pelagie. La sede scelta per studiare le diverse specie è l’isola di Lampedusa: lì infatti ha luogo il passaggio della balenottera comune (Balaenoptera physalus) nel periodo tra marzo e aprile, nell’isola risiede la popolazione stanziale di tursiope (Tursiops truncatus) e, inoltre, sono presenti gruppi di delfino comune (Delphinus delphis). Necton offre la possibilità di partecipare alla sua attività di ricerca attraverso tre corsi, ciascuno di durata settimanale, che saranno attivati su due diversi livelli: basic ed advanced. Il progetto si svolgerà dal 20 marzo al 10 aprile 2009 nell’area di mare che parte da due miglia dalla costa per evitare possibili disturbi ai delicati equilibri costieri dell’area marina protetta. Sono previste uscite in mare a bordo di un gommone con a bordo GPS cartografico, plotter, ecoscandaglio, radio VHF, telecamera subacquea ed idrofono della Cetacean Research con registratore digitale audio. I corsi forniscono crediti formativi universitari.
Necton, a marine research company, for the fourth year is running a study on the marine mammals that frequent the waters of the archipelago of the Pelagie Islands. The place chosen for studying the different species is the island of Lampedusa, as it is there that there occurs the passage of the common rorqual (Balaenoptera physalus) in the March-April period, on the island a permanent population of bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) resides, and there is also the common dolphin (Delphinus delphis). Necton offers an opportunity to participate in its research activity through three courses, each lasting a week, which will be activated on two different levels: basic and advanced. The project will be run from 20 March to 10 April 2009 in the stretch of sea that starts two miles from the coast so as to avoid disturbing the delicate coastal equilibriums of the protected marine area. There will be sea trips on board raft having on board cartographic GPS, plotter, echo sounder, VHF radio, underwater camcorder and Cetacean Research hydrophone with digital audio recorder. The courses provide university formative credits.
