Convention Policies Codes of Conduct

Events and Lines

All attendees, staff, guests, and vendors must comply with all federal, state and local laws. SAPD officers are on site at all times during the convention.

◊  Keep lines single file, and stay close to the wall/barricades. ◊  No cutting. ◊  Don’t argue with the staff if they attempt to correct you or give suggestions. ◊  Keep in mind that the staff is not yelling at you, but they have to speak loudly enough for the entire line to hear, which can be difficult at times. ◊  Completely fill in seats. Try not to leave empty spaces. ◊  Any event specific rules will be announced at the start of the event. Please listen while they are being announced.

◊  A valid badge must be purchased to be in the convention space and to enter any event or vendor space. Badges are only valid for one person and not transferable on site. (You cannot lend or borrow a badge.) Badges cannot be modified, tampered with or copied. All badges must be worn in plain sight and above the waist while in convention space. ◊  Badges can be revoked (pulled) at any time by valid staff for breaking any of the following rules. ◊  Only ADA working animals with proper verification and papers are allowed in convention spaces. ◊  San Japan is a dry convention. You cannot have alcohol or be under the effect of alcohol while in convention space. ◊  Shoes must be worn at all times while in convention spaces. ◊  There is no sleeping in any convention space including hallways, video rooms, and gaming. ◊  While waiting for a event or convention space to open, wait in a single file orderly line against the wall or barricade as the staff advise. ◊  Treat all the hotel and convention center staff and other guests with respect and courtesy. ◊  Do not move any convention center, hotel, or convention property including tables, chairs, or projectors. ◊  Do not block any doors, fire exists or pathways used for walking. ◊  Do not tape, tact, staple or affix signs, posters, banners, etc to walls doors, or any surfaces in convention space. ◊  While in convention space there is ZERO tolerance for any harassment, bullying, stalking, or mobbing people. Please respect everyone’s personal space as you would like yours to be respected. Safety Staff will be visible and onhand if needed.

Dance Rules ◊  As with all events, San Japan’s dance is a dry event. There is no alcohol or drugs allowed in the dance at anytime. ◊  No bags larger then hand bags are allowed inside. Handbags are subject to search at the door. If you do not wish to have it searched please place your bag in your room or vehicle. ◊  Staff will not watch bags or items. ◊  Staff may initiate a voluntary check for contraband at anytime. ◊  Stringing may be allowed in the designed area within the dance but may be shut down at any time. ◊  No large cosplay or props are allowed in the dance. ◊  Shoes must be worn at all times while in the dance.

Weapons and Props ◊  There are no LIVE weapons allowed in convention space. Live weapons are considered to be actual firearms and any steel that has a sharp edge. If Safety decides a weapon is too dangerous you will be asked to return the item to your room or car. ◊  All props must be checked in with safety desk when first entering the convention. ◊  If you are not in a cosplay you cannot have a prop while on the convention floor. ◊  Swinging, play fighting, or throwing anything is not allowed while in convention space.

Costuming ◊  San Japan is a family friendly convention. Keep in mind there are children and families walking around convention space at all times. ◊  No profanity can be displayed on clothing or costume ◊  No costume is no costume. All private areas should be covered with cloth and not be susceptible to slippage or have gaps. ◊  Remember: if leaving convention space and walking into public areas such as the Riverwalk Mall to treat all tourist and locals with respect and common courtesy.
