ell here we are again... another holiday season has come and gone. If you are like most people you didn’t give your plumbing system a second thought. You’re just supposed to always have water flowing in the drain lines. Who in their right mind would ever want to think about them. Well what you probably don’t know is that the holiday season is the busiest time of the year for plumbers cleaning out drain lines. What normally is the cause of the calls is all the extra cooking. People start putting things in the garbage disposal that they wouldn’t even consider the rest of the year, or if they

do it’s very little. The main thing to remember is your sanitary drain lines are for moving liquid mainly and a little bit of solids. Too much solids will plug the line. When you put a bunch of food particles down the disposal, water will run away from the solids leaving them behind. After a couple times of doing this you have yourself a plugged line that will require a plumber and a snake to get it going again. What a garbage disposal was originally developed for was the few things that come off your plates and pots and pans, not for chewing up all your cooking prep left over’s.
