REMINISCENCE GROUPS Reminiscence refers to recollections of memories from the past. For people with Dementia/Alzheimer’s disease encouraging the act of reminiscence can be highly beneficial to their inner self and their interpersonal skills. We are currently offering such programs to twenty of the nursing homes. CAMP SWAN: We have been offering a bereavement camp for children ages 7-12 for the past 10 years. This is a three day, two night camp which combines art, music and play therapy to help the children find a proper outlet for their grief. These camps are all located in natural settings and often provided the only experience these children will have to work on their grief and be in the presence of so many other children with similar circumstances. AIM: The AIM program is an advanced illness management program. This is a supportive program provided for those who are still seeking treatment for terminal illnesses and are currently under the care of a home health agency. AIM is the bridge between home health and hospice. THE CANON HOSPICE HEALTH HOUR A weekly radio show sponsored by the Akula Foundation is now going into its 6th year on WIST 690 AM, New Orleans, 4th year on WTNI in Biloxi/Gulfport and 5th year on WJBO in Baton Rouge. The show features local physicians and community health organizations and seeks to bring updated and accurate health care information to the community.

Canon Hospice Dedicated Physicians and Staff of Canon Hospice
Canon Hospice is making a difference in our community by providing quality end of life care to those seeking comfort and dignity while dealing with a life limiting illness. Canon’s community involvement is extended even further through the non-profit Akula Foundation. The Foundation sponsors Camp Swan, a children’s bereavement camp, The Canon Hospice Health Hour, on WIST 690AM (airs live 9-10 AM each Saturday morning), and the Grief Resource Center, a service provided to anyone who is experiencing any type of loss in their life.
