Project Statement
This non-profit community center aims to address the unique challenges faced by refugee communities in and around metropolitan New York. By providing a welcoming and inclusive space, it strives to empower refugees by celebrating and preserving their cultural identities, while also facilitating their integration into their new society.
This center offers a range of vital resources that help refugees navigate the complex logistical challenges of resettlement. In addition, this center promotes economic self-sufficiency by incorporating various commercial endeavors, such as a produce store, traditional crafts and goods and a food court. These ventures will not only generate revenue for the facility, but will also provide employment opportunities for local refugees, equipping them with valuable long-term marketable skills.
This 50,000 sf Building is located in lower Manhattan neighborhood called TriBeca. At the corner of Harrison and Hudson street. Located within walking distance to Canal street, Little Italy, and Chinatown. The site is adjacent to various educational facilities and cultural institutions.
Design Concept
Fractals grow and expand while maintaining their fundamental shape. It’s a metaphor of the main mission of this center which is empowering individuals to grow and succeed while preserving their unique identity.
Mosaic, which reflects the mission of promoting multiculturalism and group growth. Just as different shapes and colors come together to create a beautiful mosaic, this center is designed to support refugees as a diverse group with unique strengths and perspectives.
