RIMUN 2014 Sciences Po Paris, Euro-American campus in Reims, France Dear Sir or Madam, The team of Reims International Model United Nations is happy to invite dedicated students of your university to the 2014 edition of our Conference. This Model United Nations will be hosted by students of the Euro-American campus of Sciences Po Paris from 14-16th February 2014. For the occasion, our team welcomes you to Reims, where we hope to see many of you engage in interesting debates!

Sciences Po Paris Sciences Po Paris is France’s oldest and most prestigious research university for the social sciences. Founded in 1872, Sciences Po has been aiming ever since at educating the political and diplomatic elite throughout the world – leading it to be ranked 16th in Politics in the 2013 QS World Ranking. Now welcoming more than 38% foreign students, Sciences Po is extending its world outreach with 350 partner universities worldwide. It is in that logic of openness to a globalized, multilateral global governance that Sciences Po has been promoting the creation of an MUN, carried out in the English language, and open to all university students across the globe. Reims International Model United Nations (RIMUN) is now in its third edition and the success it has met during the previous years integrates it more and more into the global network of MUNs that link future leaders throughout the world.

RIMUN at a Glance History: Created in 2011, RIMUN is a student association aimed at offering university undergraduates and graduates in the social sciences an insight into the world of diplomacy. The project emerged out of the energy of eight students of the Euro-American campus of Sciences Po, who, passionate about international relations, decided to create their own MUN in the city of Reims. Since then, RIMUN gathers hundreds of college and university students from all over the globe in Reims, where they are able to meet and interact with future leaders on the international scene. The association strongly believes that its MUN enables all participants to build friendships among participants, no matter what their socio-economic or cultural background may be, so that students will prove to gain a deeper understanding of viewpoints and of the value of cooperation for international relations. What is a MUN ? A Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation of the UN where each student represents a country or a Non-Governmental Organization. Each participant debates on global world issues and engages in negotiation while following official UN rules, the aim being to write a comprehensive resolution by the end of the conference. Delegates must defend the position of the country or organization represented. The objective of RIMUN is not only to get students acquainted with the world of diplomacy and of the UN, but also to enhance their debating and public speaking skills. Because every participant shares with its fellow counterparts a common passion – i.e. diplomacy – MUNs build a network of like-minded students placing a similar value on the role of negotiation in international relations.

Why Participate In A Mun ? Taking part in Model United Nations is a very good way to improve and develop one’s negotiation skills by working collaboratively with peers from around the world to form solutions. On top of enhanced communication skills, all participants are able to expand their horizons on diverse topics involving the international community, while also gaining a deeper and thorough understanding of current events with all their political, legal, social and economic consequences. Delegates gain invaluable leadership experience as they work with international groups on prominent issues, coming up with solutions to crucial global problems. In today’s era of rapid globalization, the leadership, organizational, creative, and personal skills delegates develop at this conference will be useful for any career! Few university students, let alone business and government leaders, have the opportunity to take part in a conference of this magnitude on such a global scale. As we are dedicated to creating an environment where students can experience the world of multilateral decision-making for themselves and debate global issues, we seek to expand this process to the region of Asia. For this reason, we have included a team member from Singapore, Shubhavi Arya, whom students can contact for further information. We are delighted to host your students and provide interesting debates based on highly innovative scenarios we have prepared for you. We are excited to strengthen our ties with your university and together establish new connections within the MUN family whose network spans across the globe. Because we value the intake your students can bring to our conference and to the MUN world in general, our organizing team has made sure that the conference will also be packed with various social activities in some of the most attractive venues in town. More information about the conference and how to register can be found on the following link: http://www.rimun2014.com/

We look forward to welcoming you in February! Best Regards, The RIMUN Team
