FOREWORD

Welcome to Shrewsbury Food Festival!

Back in 2013 when the idea became reality, we could never have dreamt that we would achieve so much!

We’ve hosted over 200 food and drink businesses each year, built 3 school gardens, raised over £50,000 for local charities, given over 50 bursary spaces to up and coming businesses, and welcomed over 150,000 visitors across the years, even with a pandemic! We’ve hosted countless chef demos, amazing music performances, hundreds of children have been educated and inspired, and goodness knows how many tonnes of food has been eaten and drinks enjoyed... One thing we can guarantee, is that we have created a million smiles in the sunshine (mostly!)

So, a massive, big thank you to you! This festival exists because of the support that we are given from visitors, local businesses, sponsors, friends, family, and volunteers. But the biggest thank you goes to the epic team working behind the scenes at Shropshire Festivals HQ, turning the cogs and making events like this happen.

Beth & Sid Heath

Masterminds behind this crazy event business!

TEAM SIMPLY THE BEST!

PINK PINK

We are so grateful for all the people and businesses that come together to make this event possible. From the producers, who pause running their businesses to exhibit, to the community organisations who provide hands-on experiences, and everyone in between.

It feels like the whole county comes together to celebrate everything that is wonderful about our region, and we really appreciate the support.

And thank you to you, our lovely visitors, who support our independent business, which in turn supports all the businesses at our event, which boosts our local economy and makes this town even better. Every year rising costs make this event tougher and tougher to hold, so your support means the world – thank you.

Thank you Team Pink!

Our biggest thanks goes to our amazing team of volunteers. We call them Festival Makers because they do just that. Without them, there would be no festival. Their dedication, enthusiasm (come rain or shine!) and hard work powers our events, and we are endlessly grateful to them all.

Despite this huge festival site of fun, Shropshire Festivals is a small, family-run business. So we couldn’t run the event without the wonderful army of pink-wearing volunteers who have become part of our festival family.

Thank you Team Pink for everything you do, for us and the community. You are amazing!

Fancy joining the festival family?

SCAN ME!

We are always in need of new volunteers across all of our events, which includes Shropshire Oktoberfest, Shropshire Business Festival, Shropshire Tasty Trail, and Shropshire Petal Fields.

Whether you want to gain event experience, make new friends, try something totally new, or just be part of an event which is important to our region, why not give it a go?

Our volunteers help with all sorts of things, from hanging bunting to welcoming visitors, blowing up space hoppers to running our silent disco – you never quite know what you’ll end up doing on Team Pink!

The home of our award-winning festival is a rather special one to visit. The medieval town sits in a loop of the River Severn and is filled to the brim with independent eateries, bars, and shops.

Some of the unusual street names give you a hint that this market town has over 1,000 years of history. Shrewsbury is home to 660 listed buildings and is most famous for being the birthplace of Charles Darwin.

The town is best explored by foot but you can also hop on the Sabrina boat to take in the view from the river.

Shrewsbury’s independent retailers outnumber big chains by almost half. There are endless boutiques, quirky independents, and shopping centres. Wyle Cop is reputed to have the longest stretch of uninterrupted independent shops in the UK!

The Food Scene

Many of the chefs you’ll see at the festival run the most phenomenal restaurants in the town, with the type of food experience which will leave your taste buds begging for more! You’ll find cool cafes, cocktail bars, homely pubs, and unusual delis around every corner.

We have an amazing opportunity for primary schools across Shropshire, thanks to the lovely people at Morris Property.

We’d like to invite primary school aged children to design a new garden for their local school or children’s community group. All you need to do is ask your pupils to download our form from our Shrewsbury Food Festival website and get designing!

Each school can then either submit their favourite design or create a group project to decide on the final design. The school or community group need to send a photo of their final design to fun@ shropshirefestivals.co.uk with ‘School Garden Competition’ in the subject line.

Entries must be received by Friday 9th June.

The top 3 designs will be displayed in the Field to Fork area at the Shrewsbury Food Festival, where visitors will vote to decide the winning design.

The team at Morris Property will bring the design to life, building the new garden and providing materials and plants for the winning school free of charge. They’d love pupils to lend a hand with the planting too.

And if beer isn’t your bag, not to worry as we have local vineyards, distilleries and bars serving up delicious wines, fizz, spirits and cocktails.

As always we will be providing a platform for some fantastic local charities that do so much for our community and beyond.

Representatives from our festival charity, Lingen Davies, will be raising awareness. They work very hard making a positive difference to the lives of people impacted by cancer in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Mid Wales.

The Fruit Monsters are back! Jessica, the daughter of Shropshire Festivals owners – Beth and Sid, will be running the Fruit Monsters stand with her school friends. They will be selling a selection of fruit from Green Fields Farm Shop to promote healthy eating. Profits from the stand will be donated to The Harry Johnson Trust.

Our popular dog creche also returns, run by the lovely folk from the Dogs Trust. They will be providing experienced staff and volunteers to look after your dogs, enabling you to enjoy up to an hour’s dog free shopping and eating, and giving your pooch a well-earned rest in their comfy kennels. If the weather is warm, they can enjoy a cool down in one of the doggy paddling pools! If you use their service, please support their cause with a donation.

The Shire Collection Chef School is raising funds for Self Help Africa. All sessions need to be booked in advance or on the day (they are first come first served). There’s a small fee to book – with proceeds donated to Self Help Africa, which is a leading international

development charity dedicated to ending hunger and poverty in rural Africa, with a base here in Shrewsbury.

Shrewsbury Food Hub is an important part of the festival – helping to reduce food waste and educating the local community on ways to help. Make sure you take their Taste with no Waste Challenge!

Shrewsbury Food Festival is all about championing independent and local businesses. You won’t find any mainstream, big brands amongst the stalls here. Many of the exhibitors are small businesses. Thank You to our Sponsors

Thank you to our very generous sponsors for supporting our festival.

Without these amazing businesses, our festival wouldn’t be as big or be able to host free areas such as our entertainment stages and free kids’ activities. Thank you for making this festival so special and giving our community a fantastic day out.

Thank you all!
