Wizarding World Expanding + movie review for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them BY: Nicole Doris As a beloved mythical world expands, not every fan is enthused.

The wizarding world of Harry Potter has long been a place of hyper fans, magical creatures, and heart-breaking deaths. After the renewed interest in the wizarding world from the release of Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, many wondered how J.K Rowling would continue her creative course. Despite receiving many poor reviews from fans and critics alike for the play turned book, Rowling managed to redeem herself with the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The movie followed a former hogwarts student’s travels to the United States during the 1920s. While focused on the magical beasts carried by this former student, Newt Scamander, many subtle references to the rest of the wizarding world were a prominent part of the film. Surrounding the main character and his fellow companions, the wizarding and muggle, or no-maj as it is newly presented in the film, begin to collide as unseen dark forces threaten both societies.

Some topics created during the film caused controversies and disputes in the Harry Potter fan realm. One such topic of mass discussion was the hogwarts house of Newt, the main character. Hufflepuffs have long been seen as the weakest house due to the other houses having a distinct characteristic, while hufflepuffs are simply described as “friendly” or “finders”. Now, as the Fantastic Beasts movie is rapidly gaining popularity, some are upset with the rising power of the Hufflepuffs. The choice of actors for the movie has also caused uproar among fans. While almost everyone can agree that Eddie makes a perfect Newt and quiet Queenie is best portrayed by Alison Sudol. The acting talents of Johnny Depp were not appreciated. Amid recent news surrounding his personal life, many fans questioned whether he should be accepted into the sacred wizarding world. ~Nicole Doris

Pope Against Media?

.

The news has always been a large part of society and influence on daily life. Many have criticized the truth behind news stories and the importance of the stories that are covered. A new public figure has chosen to speak out against the way the media functions. This speaker is none other than the pope. During an interview with Belgian Catholic Weekly, he said publicly, “I believe the media should be very clear, very transparent…...always wanting to communicate scandal, to communicate ugly things, even though they may be true.” ~Nicole Doris
