The Memory
Trimbakeshwar The memory is embedded of the night, Crackle! Crackle! Crash! The dreadful storm went on. The growls and crashes of thunder woke me up deafening. I was huddled up on the bed near the window, squinting at the blanket, the room seemed to get larger by the minute, and I felt completely alone with family sleeping right besides me.I gasp at the deadly scary silver lake reflecting monsterous trees lighting up brightly every few minutes as lightning flashed. I barely slept that night. The next morning, sun natoriously flirts with my face waking my senses to listen birds chirp, koyal cohooing and water streaming at a distance. Curious to know where the sound is coming from, i walked up with blanket towards the balcony to discover the heaven in front of my eyes. Snow white and deepest grey, the mountain crowned the artistry of the horizon. Two streams, seeping and snaking smoothly past all obstacles, seemed weeping from a gash in the rock face, the first glance upon the brook. It was thirst-quenching. Imagine a juicy fly happened to pass them, they would explode from the pebbled bed like angels of death. Arcing into the air, their bodies glistening, I could see now how the water had gained its glassy clarity unruffed by wind yet vault still idyllic scene of lake as white as a dimond laying middle of the valley. I leaned forward to rail and closed my eyes, enjoying the sun’s warmth. The sweet perfume of the forest drifted to my nostrils as I reflected on the beauty of nature.

The smooth, brownish stoned path had a way of exciting the emotions, as if it realised an adventure was afoot. The umbrella tree canopy above filters the light to a perfect dapple, both warming and protecting my skin as i walk forward in the spring summer. Listening to birds chirp, the enclosed pathway suddenly opens up to an idyallic view where mother earth wrap around with a thick cover of trees, underneath, the river is keeper of deepest poetry, whispering sweet notes in cascading water-strings. Swiftly sliding down the smooth stoned steps leading to the seating, where it felt like we are floating upon the river, i realised there are steps approaching to the river. Excited to feel the water, hopping like a child i reached to see beautifullly crafted boats tied up to the edge. As i stood there took my shoes off, bent to feel the water, chills ran through my body....it was cold. Feeling the breeze brush through my hair and sun kiss my skin, feeling very relaxed and calm i sat there dip my feet listening to birds chirp through the air. AAuch......I screamed something bit my feet, when i look down the fishes having a feast....Terrified i took my feet out of water as i feel. I heard laughter behind as i realise that i accompany my musketeers to this feast. STORY - First iteration Shreya Pathak The Visit A husseled morning as usual when my parents are racing against time to reach office ontime, when my dad drops a shocking bomb at eleventh hour, Shreya get ready, I"ll accompany you to your site vist. Standing stunned with eyebrows up in the air, i say with a long pause, but you have office papa, I"ll need whole day i don't know where to go and what to do... He is like okay get ready i"ll take you to a place which might help you. Running around the house from one end to another I gather things for site visit and sit in the car breathless. After catching the breath, i say so what's the plan today, My mom says you guys will drop to office and then dad continues i will take you to a water treatment plant, i am like okay....and we continue to talk through the drive and sing songs till we reach mom's office. Wishing a great day i came forward and sat with my dad humming songs and Talking about cities water network to him. The first destination we reached was BHEL Water treatment plant where it looked like barren abandoned site with strong chlorine smell around it, walking towards the gate gaurd stops and i plead for the permission to visit the site for a long time then my dad slides in and talks to supervisor and he agrees in a second, i am like i spoke the same thing asked the same permission and he denys. Anyways we entered the plant and no documentation is allowed and he explains about the plant at the enterance and another official comes and denys the entry saying we need written letter from nagar nigam and so on. At the end they suggested we could go to Bhopal water treatment plant which is right next door and try there. When we reached the place and entered, again my dad stepped back and i tried pursuing them, this time i convinced the supervisor but we had to wait till the chief comes and writes the permission to enter. Waiting for almost an hour absorbing the space around me, i tried initiating conversations with the workers relaxing under the tree about the plant, how it functions, since when they have been working, what is the work network here etc... one of the uncle named ashok started explaining and

Third iteration- Story Shreya Pathak MY NEELU Raghav, get the package ready we are almost close to the Vidhan sabha. What are you doing? Fast fast fast….shubham yelled. Boss will kill us if we go back without completing the mission. The pilot Radios… Drop the package now…now……we are heading towards the target and Raghav aims the package while Shubham kept yelling at the background do it… do it…and Radhika pulled Shubham back….shhhhh…you will distract him idiot. Raghav at the edge of the seat sweating, breathless, panting, gasping for the air. Slowly, the helicopter turns and bright sun rays hit raghavs eyes , trying to look at target and open eyes the pilot says drop, Raghav screms I can’t see anything above the copters noise and the package drops from his hand . All three of them are looking where the package is falling and it reaches the target within the compound between the vegetation. All of them screm at the top of their voices with joy.. mission accomplished. At the vidhan sabha, the hall is filled with officials and having the political discussion when ramu enters to serve tea. He looks out the window something dropped from top to the garden area and wispers in the ear of the authority and suddenly the crows flew away from the tree and a boom , sound comes and ramu realizes that it’s a bomb. He runs, run for the only precious thing in his life… cursing himself why did I get her here today. he runs around the place he last saw her, all the surroundings are destroyed and scattered into the pieces. Shouting …neelu, neelu….but she seemes to be no were. Sobbing in the corner, crunching her legs against chest, neelu was scared and looking for her dad. The bullets started showering from the sky and guards started running to fight back the war. Neelu ran for her life , she saw the gate and ran outside straight into the open gate across the road. Running to find a place to hide, this 7-year-old is trying to look a safe space when she toppled and fell over a pipe jungle around her, she tries to find her way out jumping through it and the vision and sound of the war is gone. Now she is relaxed and takes a deep breath. Standing in middle of the place she doesn’t know. She started to walk around still worried and looked back if someone came for her looked around densely vegetated and some huge walled thing is around. She walked few steps, realized frock lace is pulled behind, she turns, pup starts jumping on her, Spotting the broken

It’s Sunday morning and the alarm rang usually at 5 am. Ajay went back to sleep. Woke up hustled, suddenly remembered…he had a visit to the water institute for research work on his thesis. He jumped off the bed, ran through the shower, ate breakfast slid through the stairs running late. Listening to loud honking, he dodged the traffic, and crashed, he gave a dent on the Maruti with an old uncle. Apologizing continuously, sorry uncle, I am in a hurry It happened by mistake and he disappeared into the traffic before uncle could come out and shout at him.

Taking the report out from vehicle (Rambling to himself first-day the first impression I am late, why can’t I be on time). He Enters under an arched creeper small blue iron gate, sunlight filters through making patterns on the fine aggregate pathway leading to a fountain. Walking forward on the righthand side the sunlight filters through the trees onto the lawn where students are sitting, chitchatting, and reading, to the left a coarse stone building freshly painted with blue wooden shutter windows seemed to be an old construction. He stops and asks two guys walking past him, could you please guide me to the research center? The guys point towards the stairs that disappear between the water. He walks past the dry mosaic fountain, in the direction to concrete stairs when two dogs sleeping behind the fountain start to growl. Startled, the paper in his hand flew in the air. Trying to catch the papers, some from porous concrete steps, some from the moist lawn, some floating on the surface of the water with a lotus in it. Jumping from the steps he tried fishing for the papers, got goosebumps when cold water trickled through his fingers, gazing at the ripples created in the water reflecting sunlight from the bright blue sky, he collected the papers and stepped down towards the dark cool basement. Blindsided by harsh sunlight, he couldn’t see anything when he came inside the dark low height space, hearing a pleasant waterfall, he crashed into the same old man from the morning. Watch out young man, ratan kaka says. Startled Ajay recognized him and walked past to avoid conversation. Moving forward a double-height space with a circular opening on a flat concrete roof where the water is falling like a sheet forming a cylindrical screen into the pond making a loud waterfall noise breaking the silence. Walking closer, water drizzles at him marking a smile on his face, he walks towards the desk where he asks about professor Bhattacharya from the research lab. Stepping back from the desk, Ajay stepped on ratan kaka, and the chemicals from his hands almost toppled and fell but Ajay handled it. What’s up with your young man, watch your step. Ajay offers help to kaka, please allow me to help you uncle, let me take the crate. Kaka agrees and hands him over the crate. Ajay follows him to multiple courses of stone screened walls through doorways towards the light at the end of the rock tunnel listening to the water flowing above their heads. Reaching the ground, Ajay spots the exposed brick Aqueduct, underneath the steps filtering the water through a coarse to fine aggregate flow to the pond with a hole in it. Then it strikes that’s it’s the skylight for the basement. He turned to look where the kaka went, Kaka has vanished into the uncoursed exposed masonry colonnades against the Tall and long Tapering exposed brick wall. Reaching the steps running parallel to the chaddar listening to the music from the flow of water, he entered the door of Glass façade double-height space with a smooth concrete floor and reflective
