This Story Was Created To Celebrate The Marriage Of Charles Fredrick Reinwald and Carole Hagglund August 29, 1964 Trinity Lutheran Church

Astoria, Oregon

After months of planning and anticipation, the special day had finally arrived. Charles and Carole ( with an E) first met in Astoria, Oregon at the USO Sock Hop, which was the coolest, hippest, and grooviest place in town. It’s where all the chics were and Charles knew it! He was dressed to impress, looking like a greased up Salem kid. He was lookin for trouble and a little bit of love! The ladies were looking fine as well! The USO DJ was bumpin and … thank goodness twerking hadn’t caught on yet. Carole, of course , was turning heads left and right in her queen of the Jobes Daughters outfit…..sweeeet! Charles couldn’t resist he had to meet her …..he had to…. dance. And for the first and…. last time in his life… Charles made a decision and he asked Carole for a dance….nice Charles …nice.

Charles, in a weird stalker like way, somehow found out where she lived in the sticks of Napa , Oregon. He bravely knocked on the door. He was greeted by a mountain of a man ROY HAGGLUND, smelling of cow manure and bailed hay, he sat poor Charles down in front of a rousing episode of Lawrence Welk and said “ I got an electric fence- keep your hands off my daughter”. Well played Mr. Hagglund. Poor Charles didn’t know what to do, which is normal ,but he still pressed on. With sweet brush strokes and hands of an artist, Charles painted himself into Carole’s life. Hence, this was the beginning of a wonderful relationship. After the stalking fear had subsided Carole grew fond of that handsome haired man (little did she know that both of the those features would soon fade away) they began a relationship and were soon to be married.

The guests assembled at Trinity Lutheran Church to witness the happy event. Karen Hagglund was the Maid of Honor and was representin the N.A.P.A. Three brides maids flanked Carole at the lovely ceremony as well. Ann Combs ( Busby) , Judy Ivory (Degerness), and Linda Orten were all wondering if Charles could keep his lovely quaft of hair, and really how many cars did Charles really have growing up?? Little Karen McCarty was the flower girl and as cute as a button. The bride appeared at the entrance, escorted by her father Roy Hagglund. With a smell motor oil and freshly mowed grass, Roy walked his daughter down the aisle. Charles was awe struck by his future brides beauty but also petrified that Roy still had that electric fence. His mind was ablaze with excitement and full of mothballs as well. His best man was his brother Dwight Reinwald, fresh off an old school Salem street fight, he posed confidently at the side of his brother brushing off a few random hairs that had fallen from his brothers head. Charles had three groomsmen Gordy Hagglund, a fine speciman of a man. He put out the vibe to all the single ladies in the house, unknowing years of bachelorhood awaited him, but he also dreamed of hot tubs, corvettes and beer on tap at his own home bar‌(yessss)! Friends Roy Oliver and Ronny McCarty couldn’t compete with those dreams but they were there, too.

Taking her place beside Charles, Carol turned and faced Charles. A look of love and understanding passed between them. The Pastor opened the ceremony with specially chosen words on the significance of marriage. The couple exchanged there solemn vows promising to love and honor for the rest of their lives. The ring ceremony was lovely and expressed there life long commitment. After the ceremony the past announced the couple as Mr. and Mrs. Charles and Carole Reinwald. Following the ceremony everyone danced and partied at the church‌. It was a really groovy scene. They soon left for there honeymoon to sometimes sunny Seaside, Oregon for a stay at the Tides hotel, a real fancy joint. All knowing that this was the beginning of there new life together. They soon moved to lovely Oakland,California to start there new life together. Kids were born, one super special one named Jeff, he was cute, cuddly, smart, awesome, the best, most superior, da man. Birthdays came and went, different jobs, different towns, but they stayed true to each other. 50 years later they are great example of love, life, and great parents. They are the best! Here’s to 50 more years ‌Congratulations!!
