Luis Ardila Nature And Heaven Creating The New Human Being, 2018 Oil on Canvas, 48 x 48 in $16,000

Luis Ardila Mint Hill, North Carolina, USA luisgermanardila@aol.com https://ardilaart.com

Luis Ardila The purpose with my work is to find a way to communicate our history and where we are now so that people can understand that we have choices as to our present and future. I will continue to work on my presentation to create broader understanding to create a better future. The prophecies that are in every mythology, philosophy, or religion will be the same today as they were in ancient times. They become alive when the patterns that created that prophecy are repeated in history. They are a warning, that history will be repeated if the patterns are not acknowledged and behaviors changed. Many of the civilizations that we don’t know anything about today is because they were subjected to a decline that crystallizes in fear and anguish and a profound failure to return to the positive spirit that was in its roots. My focus is on these patterns.

Also a portrait and figurative painter, Jackie won the honored award of Best in Show in 2018 for her painting Big Sister at Yosemite National Parks Annual Museum and Gallery Exhibition. Jackie studied extensively with master painters, Frank Liljegren, David Leffel, and Mary Beth Mckenzie. Other areas of study within the field of the arts include, photography, scenic painting and design, and the decorative arts before dedicating all her time to her own studio practice, Jackie was a specialist in the field of the decorative arts, and has worked on many historic theaters, churches and state buildings throughout the country as a muralist, and conservator. She now dedicates all her time to fine art landscape, and figurative painting. There’s a verve to Jackie’s paintings; her use of exuberant brushstrokes lend a vitality to her work.

Curator Review: The Lone Wolf In this unusual and penetrating painting by artist Jackie Clark, a story of perspective unfolds. Clark’s purposeful placement of her two subjects boldly reveals an examination of ‘individual experience’, which is not for the fainthearted. Her painterly expression and singular use of the flashlight as a light source, is both engaging and symbolic. This strong work presents a striking narrative, in a beautifully singular style. - E.E. She deals with spatial installation, painting, and graphic design. In her work, she deals with the subject of corporeality, studies the relationships between psyche and some, as well as the relationship between human and nature. In her work, she devotes a lot of attention to the selection of materials and their properties. She also deals with art theory and aesthetics, in particular: focusing on the impact of art on social behaviors.

Curator Review: A Soul The Kindles The Body A mysterious and stirring relationship between these two celestial bodies painted by artist Joasia Dudek, draws the viewer in. Dudek’s provocative use of color and contrast bathed in soft light, heightens the emotional mood in this work. An almost melancholy flux between glowing and sharp edges ads to this sombre and sensitive atmosphere. The bold simplicity and visual purity of this piece, should be applauded. - E.E. Jacks

Lori Horowitz Dix Hills, New York, USA Lorihorowitzartist@gmail.com https://www.lorihorowitz.com/

Lori Horowitz My work is a study of personalities and environments that complement imitate and incorporate elements of everyday life based on society, political issues and place. My most recent series of works draw from historical use of relief sculpture and bring these methods to current topics. I am always equipped with camera in hand, photographing people in their natural environments. Often these individuals share a narrative, while other images are candid shots taken from afar when the subjects cannot be interrupted from their actions. My images digest the posture of individuals while faces reflect their stories. These strangers are subjects in her continuing series of mixed media life-sized theatrical characterizations. One example, All of these characters have stories to tell and a past that we cannot grasp from a momentary glance. I am particularly interested in body language, gesture and expression and how they relate to emotion and character. As viewers, we experience a commonality or empathy to these portraits, creating a connection or response. This series portrays society’s unseen, as well as attention seekers and brings to light “Who We Are.” I appreciate the challenge of each piece, collapsing three dimensional pieces into 2 and 3 dimensional space and the process working with photography, wire, papier mache, encaustic wax , wire and painting. I challenge myself to explore new materials and techniques as an essential component to my work. Light and shadow are essential to understanding the depth of my work. The translucency of the wax medium can be lit both from front and back, creating shadow and depth that bring these pieces to life. I have been experimenting with copper and its’ properties, combing painting along with wire sculpture and theatrical lighting. I have developed a technique where images burned into copper work like two way mirrors changing significantly based on lighting. The light either bounces off the copper pieces reflecting a strong image or travels though the mesh showing a translucent after image. I burn images into the surface of reflective copper to create subjects that are then sculpted and manipulated with intricate detail. The torching of the image is represents the scaring of the surface embedding the image in the copper skin. These pieces illuminate acceptance and place in society.

Curator Review: Objects More Or Less Interesting The mindful aesthetic of artist Showna Kim can be seen in the glowing shapes, seducing shadows and reflections of this brilliant installation work. A connective quietude can be felt here, and within the ‘revealed’ spaces and darker fissures, a study of reaction and inaction is being explored. Showna’s marvelous presentation of light and dark, exposes itself as a contemporary garden, inviting the inquisitive mind to reach into the otherworldly. - E.E. Jacks

Maximilian Maximilian was born in Milan, Italy, on December 17, 1969. He started painting as a child and despite his art school training, he has maintained an instinctive approach to his work, letting his subconscious dictate his subject matter. The recurring figure of a pre-adolescent child, neither male nor female, lends a coherence to this free-form universe. Since moving to Paris, France, in 2012, his work has focused on that unripe phase of human existence when gender is still undefined and sexuality has yet to be expressed. The melancholy and reflective characters he portrays are experiencing the often difficult and painful transition from childhood games and innocence to the first upsets of adolescence and adulthood.

Margaret Minardi Inner Light, 2020 Colored Pencil, 22 x 31 in $2,000

Margaret Minardi Ft Salonga, New York, USA margaretminardi@yahoo.com https://www.margaretminardiartist.com

Margaret Minardi My works tell stories. I have approached subjects such as infertility, Bi Polar disease and politics. A subject for a drawing might also be as simple as a fascination with a bird or animal. I start with a realistic portrait which lends itself to the story. I work in a stream of consciousness. I usually don’t know what a work is about until it unfolds in front of me. My drawings are predominately colored pencil. Years ago became allergic to oils. Since then I have made concerted effort to make colored pencil a more acceptable medium. I also use collage and acrylic as an adjunct texture to the colored pencil. Generally it takes anywhere from 40 to 200 hours to complete a piece of work.

Curator Review: Inner Light Margaret Minardi’s vivid and distinct style brilliantly captures the character and essence of her subject. Her deep understanding of composition, spills out in a beautiful articulation of movement and gesture. Wrinkles and folds of textured material both solid and transparent, balance harmoniously together with the warmer skin tones and dapples of light. Full of passion, precise technique, freedom and equanimity, Minardi’s skillful figurative portrait absolutely glows with expression. - E.E. Jacks

Cindy Roesinger Doylestown, Pennsylvania, USA cindyroesinger@yahoo.com https://www.cindyroesingerfineart.com

Cindy Roesinger Roesinger’s work in oil is created predominantly alla prima. Her unique style reflects intuitively created landscapes and still lifes. Creating a more organic aesthetic by expressing spontaneous, direct feeling, there is an energy and vibration created in her current work that emphasizes essential movement, form and color, while eliminating extraneous detail, leaving the viewer with the origin of the image, and the moment that inspired it’s creation. “I often align my work closely to what feels like musical composition to me. When I approach the creation of a new work of art, I am seeking a visceral response to the lyrical quality unfolding within the work. Sometimes that is expressed in a harmonious, quiet painting with soft tones, represented in kind by the palette and treatment of the shapes and edges within, perhaps punctuated by a moment of discord for emphasis, and other times it is like a symphony with layers of color and movement. My intention is to create a sonata of interlocking monologues that engage the viewer.” Cindy’s professional career began in 1984 in New York City at the International Center for Photography and Magnum Photos, leading to a successful career as a photo editor. A self-taught painter, Cindy transitioned from photography into oil painting in 2005, after moving to Bucks County, PA. Her internationally acclaimed work has garnished awards and inclusion in notable invitational and solo exhibitions and galleries. She currently resides and works in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

Tra’ Slaughter I Carry My Heart In A Paper Bag, 2019 Mixed Media on Wood Panel, 48 x 84 in POR

Tra’ Slaughter Houston, Texas, USA amberterriaco@gmail.com https://www.traslaughter.com

Tra’ Slaughter I am a Houston, Texas based interdisciplinary artist who works in a variety of mediums. My art is inspired by the exploration of different cultures and how social constructs define one’s growth and identity. I have discovered that art is not a private conversation; rather art is a communal experience between the artist and the community in which they choose to explore. My goal as an artist is to reveal to the world its humanity and our human connection. I am drawn to various and often unusual media for their symbolic potency. In my work, found and discarded materials tell a story of their history, community as a whole and at times, the humanity of one single solitary individual. I find energy, beauty, and a story in the world’s discarded and forgotten. As an artist, I am a storyteller. If there is no story, then how will humanity learn from its past? My art has always been inspired by the exploration of different cultures and how social constructs define one’s growth and identity. To many the artist serves merely as a cultural decoration. But through resistance and growth of both artists and their community, a shared experience takes place. My goal as an artist is to show the world their humanity not alone, but together. I’ve come to realize that art is not a private conversation; rather art is a communal experience between the artist and the culture in which they choose to discover. My current body of work can be described as Expressive Assemblage much like Rauschenberg “combines” method in which non-traditional materials and objects were employed in various combinations. My work can also be seen as an amalgamation of culture, history and something entirely new. Every piece I create has numerous layers of stories and experiences that can only be seen by continuously searching, both for the truth and for the real story of who we all are when glamour and ego has been shed.

My paintings, sculptures and installations draw inspiration from my upbringing in Italy’s cultural & historical scene as well as from the vibrant & dynamic architectural environment of New York City, and they become the result of constant engagement between history and contemporary life. Consequently, my artworks are often generated as an elaborated personal & original reinterpretation and re-visitation of art movements from classical to contemporary times. Revealing society’s inherent problems as well as discovering and reclaiming (almost as if bringing back to life) the latent aesthetic potential within industrial, natural and construction ruins & fragments, the allusive and vibrant products of my artistic research seem to lead to the idea of “nature as imitation of art” coexisting with “art as imitation of nature”.

Ira Stein The Mistake, 2020 Acrylic and Graphite on Custom Ampersand Gessoboard, 60 x 30 x 2 in POR

Ira Stein Los Angeles, California, USA ira@irastein.com https://irastein.com

Ira Stein Over the past years, I have painted the most unique women to me based on our chemistry and their story. I believe that their behaviors are genetically determined and not a result of experience or societal influences. My paintings, mixed media collages and sculptures will not necessarily go with the furniture but it will leave you with the unbelievable documentation supporting my belief that behaviors are predetermined by genetics. Genetics is a brutally honest summation of all my work – which is more profound than a pretty picture.

Christel Van Hemelrijck Four Days In Lisbon, 2019 Oil on Canvas, 120 x 80 cm POR

Christel Van Hemelrijck Mechelen, Belgium christelvanhemelrijck@telenet.be https://www.christelvanhemelrijck.com/

Christel Van Hemelrijck Christel uses oil painting to present us her lyric expressionism visions. She is a self-taught artist, based in Mechelen, Belgium. She has had a career as an executive producer in television before she discovered art as a way of expressing herself. The island of Crete remains her major source of inspiration, along with her travel experiences. Christel has lived in Crete during the 90s and she still spends a lot of time there. Her emotions are expressed through the language of bold colours, with laconic, solid composition and delicate texture mainly on large canvasses. Every painting is a story. Soon after starting out she has had several exhibitions in Belgium. Lately Christel had the opportunity to present her work in Lisbon, Amsterdam and London and she was a semifinalist of the Artbox Project - Art Miami 2019. She will show her work in Venice, Italy in February in a group exhibition and will be represented by DgArt Gallery at the ARTIST 2020 Contemporary Art Fair in Madrid.

Curator Review: Four Days in Lisbon The superbly articulated flow of reflective pattern and rich color in this work, thoroughly exudes expression. Artist Christel Van Hemelrijck offers up a subtle yet stimulating state of transcribed ‘murmuration’ in her connective piece. An almost trance-like, harmonious composition of introspection and symbolic reflection has been achieved here, and a further exploration of those narratives can be felt. Her wondrously stylized abstraction, most certainly leaves an indelible impression in the mind. - E.E. Jacks

Sara Zanini That Thing..., 2019 Porcelain and Battery Operated Lights, 15 x 13 cm POR

Sara Zanini Sevilla, Spain szanini84@gmail.com https://www.instagram.com/mme_zaboubou

Sara Zanini I was born in Verona in 1984, but since an young age my curiosity and impatience took me to live in places like England, Brasil and France: Initially I focused my main activities on sociology, anthropology and social work, experiences which shaped my personal worldview: multicultural and permeable. However, art has always come along and after having experimented different techniques like mural painting, illustration and mosaics, the call of creativity led me to abandon Paris, where I was living and working and move to Seville, where I decided to study contemporary ceramics at the “Escuela de Arte de Chile”. The plastic relation with the clay, the need for respecting every single step of the process, the lack of complete control on the final result of the piece, together with the countless possibilities...all of these aren’t for me simply part of an artisan work, they are the reflection of a philosophical attitude towards life. My work focuses on identity, inspired by my experience as a woman with a multinational sense of belonging, on memories, relations and emotions, using a barroque, colorful and sometimes provocative aesthetic.

Nina Zdanovic Bukhara, 2019 Japanese Mineral Pigments on Rice Paper on Wood Panel, 58 x 70 cm 780â‚Ź

Nina Zdanovic Tokyo, Japan ninazdanovicart@gmail.com https://ninazdanovic.com

Nina Zdanovic Nina Zdanovic, a graduate of Vilnius University Oriental Studies Center, is living and working in Tokyo, Japan. “Ever since I left my home country, one’s memories and identities became a focal point of my creative work. In an attempt to arrange my scattered emotions and nostalgic feelings, I start to pour them out on canvas. In my paintings, I often refer to situations that have happened, to places that I have visited, to people that I have met. Real stories merge with other similar memories, resulting with a compromise between reality and nostalgia. People and objects in my paintings are an important part of the story, yet the details, just like in a distant memory or a dream, become blurry. It is almost like a snapshot of a lucid dream: some things are real, some things are not, and it is almost impossible to tell them apart.”
