BACK TO ME “Back to me” is not properly a reportage, but I was given the chance to follow the guests admitted to the unique structure that cures this kind of disorders, in southern Italy. I was with them for one week, and I have tried to document the guests struggling with therapeutic workshops, and self-managed moments in their moments of solitude and reflection. When I entered the the health facility where they were hospitalized, I was expecting to take pictures to put into evidence that the problem anorexia and bulimia, and instead I found myself in front of teenagers like everyone else, but silent, thoughtful. This has me very impressed. The moments of silence were many, and in fact what most I was left from this experience was their thoughtful silence. I decided to immortalize that silence through their movements, their eyes, to photograph exactly what I experienced there with them. I like to call them “silent photos”.

PHOTOGRAPHIC CHRONICLES SERENA LIBUTTI

BIOGRAPHY My name is Serena Libutti, I am 23 years old, I was born in Melfi and I live in a beautiful village on the slopes of Mount Vulture, Rionero. (Italy) I am a graduate student in modern literature and I have always been a passion for photography. For several years I went up to some associations that give me the opportunity to experience this more my interest. I have participated in several photo contests and I explained some of my work with great satisfaction. I favor the reportage and I love the black and white.

PHOTOGRAPHIC CHRONICLES SERENA LIBUTTI

THE BODY...WAHT’S THE BODY?

Only a casing, a means, something to be exploited, with its softness, its roundness, its silkiness. It a tool ephemeral to stem the fear of not have enough, in a world where values are reversed and you are no longer what it was, but what you have. It becomes almost easy the first “yes” to the first customer, an “yes” irredeemably thread between life as it was and what will be. A wire is cut in an instant, it does not take even a second to say “sim” “sim”...but it is a body, not the soul, and that thread was the only route through which the soul could come in and talk now, desperate screams changes its “no”. That single “yes” said lightly that it becomes a stone, rolling like an avalanche from a mountain, destroying everything in its path, eroding what was pure, beautiful, soft and silky. No chance to forgive the soul is divided from the body used, violated, humiliated, dirty and finally begins to hover your flight.

PHOTOGRAPHIC CHRONICLES MICHAEL MASSART

BIOGRAPHY Belgian amateur photographer (Habay-la-Neuve), I really became interested in photography in 2008. After a knee injury, I was forced to stop doing some sport‌and therefore looked for a new passion. Photography was pretty natural, without thinking about it actually. I read and tried a lot of things. I mainly focused on 2 chosen fields: landscapes (especially with long exposures) and portraits. What I like most in photography is to be able to capture the essence of an emotion, to surprise. With portraits, I particularly appreciate the many possibilities to build and stage the image in a unique way. I very much like to prepare and reflect on staging in order to obtain the desired effect instead of creating it through a photo software. So in most cases, my photos are taken without any special effects‌(in any case for the overall effect of the photo).

VERY FAST TRIP «VERY FAST TRIP» is a contemporary fable about planned obsolescence, overconsumption. What our society promotes today is thrown away the next day. Rise & Fall: the best enemies of the world. With this subject and a certain touch of humour, I have tried to recount the journey of a consumer product by bringing it to life (at least partially) as a man. If there is an area where everything goes very quickly, it is computer science. Furthermore, is a human being not a consumer product in our today’s society? The title «VERY FAST TRIP» summarizes the journey of our consumer products from the moment we open the box until we replace them, what happens often too early. Because of tiredness, or jealousy towards the neighbour who bought the new model, a lack of solidity or also a (deliberate?) absence of spare parts at a time where we prefer to replace a device instead of repairing it. Not forgetting theories on planned obsolescence. I am pleased to share with you the adventures of our overconsumption «hero» since its “unwrapping” until its death…recycling which include glorious moments, impressions to be the king of the world, excesses, difficult “morning after”, nostalgia, challenges and a fight to try to survive in an ungrateful world with its fallen “stars”…

BIOGRAPHY My photographic alias is Irving S. T. Garp in reference to John Irving’s novel “The World According to Garp”. There is, I hope, a certain form of analogy between Irving’s style and my pictural universe. In Irving’s books, some worst disasters appear, unexpected, in the middle of sentences, slipped into a description of an common daily life.

WEIRD YOU SAID? “Weird you said?” unless this is preposterous, abnormal, baroque, quirky, shines, funny, curious, puzzling, confusing, funny, surprising, strange, eccentric, extravagant, fanciful, whimsical, fantastic, wacky, crazy, ridiculous, heterogeneous, incoherent, amazing, unusual, disturbing, unusual, incredible, crazy? “Weird you said?” is a photographic caricature that brings an off-the-wall and ironic look at the oddities and sloppiness of today’s world.
