ELANCO Library Events

The Eastern Lancaster County Library is located at 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland. Hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Martindale Fire Company, located at 542 Gristmill Road, Ephrata, was officially charted on June 20, 1947. The present day fire company has 30 active members and responds to 140 calls per year. Responding from the station, Martindale Fre has three units: a 2021 Pierce Tanker, 2004 KME engine, and 1998 Ford Squad. The area they cover is ten square miles in Earl, East Earl, Ephrata and East Cocalico Townships.

The current Fire Chief is Anthony Groff, and the President is Brandon Brubaker.

The fire company is funded 100% by donations and they are 100% volunteer.

Additionally, the following members received their Red Rose Degrees: Rebecca Abraham, Caden Beyer, Marie Frey, Claudia Pfautz, Lauren Rissler, and Jessica Weiss. To qualify for the Red Rose degree they needed to earn or productively invest $750 or work 225 hours on their Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) projects.

Lastly, Lauren Rissler was named the County CoReporter and Marie Frey was named County Chaplain for the Lancaster County FFA for the 2023-2024 school year.

Overall, the chapter is extremely proud and cannot wait to see how these members do at the State Convention in June.

• ELANCO Library Seeks Donations of Used Children’s Books in Good Condition - Ongoing. Do you have children’s books your family has outgrown or no longer wants? Are you downsizing and reorganizing? Would you like to make sure your old children’s books go to a good home? ELANCO Library needs used children’s books in good condition to sell at Friends of the Library book sales and to give away to young readers! Please feel free to drop off donations used children’s books in good condition at the library any time they are open.

• “The Magic Box Show” with Magician Ran’D Shine - Wednesday, July 5 at 10:00 a.m. The Magic Box Show is a fast, fun, and amazing show where Master Magician Ran’D Shine performs tricks from his favorite magic books that he keeps in his box. He will also perform tricks that cannot be found anywhere in this world! During the show you will witness objects appear, vanish, and transform! This is a highly interactive show that combines magic, music, and storytelling. Participants will be invited on stage to assist with a trick or two. The show is appropriate for all ages and no registration is required.

• STEM Through StoriesWednesdays, July 5, 17, 19, & 26 at 3:00 p.m. Join Miss Jen this summer as they combine stories with STEM experiments for hands-on learning fun! Each week, they will focus on a new STEM topic like engin- eering, outer space, dinosaurs, and more! Geared towards ages 4-7, but all ages are welcome.

• Birding 102 - Saturday, July 8 at 2:00 p.m. Ready to take your bird ID to the next level? Join Miss Jen (their resident bird enthusiast) for this workshop designed for budding birders. They will start in the classroom then move outside to work on their ID skills together. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars! Program is for all ages and registration is not required.

• Mark DeRose Music and Art Show - Saturday, July 10 at 1:30 p.m. Mark DeRose Music & Art show combines Mark’s loves for the visual arts with for songwriting. Mark’s songs, artwork, videos, and activities compliment one another to communicate his message that encourages his young listeners to embrace and enjoy life to its fullest, be creative individuals, and most importantly, confidently be themselves. For all ages; no registration required.

• Hooks and Needles: Yarn Craft Club - Mondays, July 10 at 6:30 p.m. Are you crafty with a needle (or two)? Would you like a little company to talk shop with while you knit or crochet?

Join them at the Library! Beginners welcome! They’ll get you started on your first project. For adults.

• Ready for Kindergarten!

- Tuesdays, July 11, 18, & 25 at 3:00 p.m. Do you have a child entering Kindergarten this Fall? These workshops will help them develop skills like name recognition, listening, following directions, and more, so they are ready on the first day of school! • LEGO Creation ClubThursday, July 13 at 6:00 p.m. Once a month, they’ll build themed creations out of Lego® Bricks that will be displayed.

• Elite Organizing Hero Training for Kids! - Friday, July 14 at 11:00 a.m. Do you have what it takes to become a hero? Can you search and rescue missing toys? Can you save your family from floods of paper and laundry?

Can you help children who are less fortunate than you?

If so, you have what it takes to become an Organizing Hero. Elite Organizing Hero training begins at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 14. Trainees are kids ages 5-10 (accompanied by their grown-ups). Training involves games, hands-on activities, and serious fun.

Organizing Hero certificates are issued at the completion of the hour-long program led by local entrepreneur and educator Mara Pritchard, founder of The Beautiful Sort.

• Preparing Against Fraud

- Monday, July 17 at 2:00 p.m. The Federal Trade Commission reports that persons residing in the Lancaster metro area are at HIGH risk of being targeted for fraud & scams, and local leaders confirm that crimes related to scams & fraud are on the increase in the (Continued On Page 11A)
