Cloister FFA Goes To States

This year’s FFA State Convention was held from Tuesday, June 13 to Thursday, June 15 at Penn State, so the months leading up to it have been filled with a lot of activity and preparation to compete against chapters from across the state. While some students were preparing for States since November, others prepared for regional public speaking contests in March and April, and the most recent competitors showcased their skills at the Spring Regional Career Development Events (CDEs) in Lebanon on Tuesday, April 25.

At the Lebanon Expo Center, Cloister FFA members competed against students from Berks, Chester, Lancaster, Lebanon, Philadelphia, and Schuylkill counties in the Vet Science and Wildlife CDEs. Competing in Vet Science was freshman Madison Wenger who placed 2nd in the county and 10th overall, followed by River Cline who placed 3rd, Augusta Good who placed 6th, and Katelyn Diirner who placed

8th in the county. In the Wildlife CDE junior Caden Beyer got 1st in the county and 1st overall; reflecting upon his great accomplishment, Beyer explains, “a big part [of] competing in a CDE is exposing yourself to the topics outside of practices.” Closely following, Hannah Jacke got 2nd in the county and 2nd overall, and Marie Frey placed 4th in the county and 10th overall. Similarly, in the county, Lauren Rissler placed 7th, Jessica Weiss placed 9th, Mathias Sweigart placed 14th, Megan Rebuck placed 17th, Gabriella Rios placed 18th, and finally, Erik Guzman Moreno placed 20th in the county. With their hardwork and striking determination, all competitors did astonishingly well.

On Tuesday, May 23, several of these competitors from Spring CDEs and Fall CDEs were recognized at the Lancaster County FFA Banquet held at the Lancaster County Farm and Home Center. Caden Beyer, Sophie Burkey, Hannah Jacke, Brendon Martin, Nathan Potts, and Madison Wenger placed 1st or 2nd in the county in their respective CDEs or LDEs this year and received individual plaques.
