cONSERVATION aWARENESS EDUCATE

GRI improves access to conservation information and encourages local communities to explore the aesthetic, economic and ecological benefits of wildlife. Conservation awareness is delivered via multiple channels to optimise impact and reach This year, we launched our established community radio programme, Conservation Conversations on 1015 Adroit Radio It is now broadcast weekly, from Itezhi-Tezhi and Luangwa, reaching over 80,000 listeners. Sport has also become a valuable platform for us to disseminate information to large audiences; over 9,000 people gathered to support the Kafue Youth Tournaments in August

In 2022, through the provision of training, resources and ongoing mentoring support, we built the capacity of 100 teachers to establish weekly conservation clubs. Many of their schools are located in areas highly affected by human-wildlife conflict, resulting in very negative perceptions of wildlife

Others are located in urban areas, where the children have never encountered a wild animal. The Conservation Clubs allow us to introduce the next generation of decision and policymakers to Zambia’s incredible wildlife and wild spaces in a fun and safe environment.

We were delighted to collaborate with BirdWatch Zambia across all three landscapes in September to celebrate International Vulture Awareness Day with our Conservation Club learners and look forward to further collaborations with our conservation partners.
