- His Holiness Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar Vedic Astrology is an ancient Indian science which explains planetary motions and positions with respect to time and their effect on humans and other entities on earth. Astrology is the science of the effects of the planets movements on our lives and all things. Astrology is based on astronomy in that astrologers need to know the correct positions of the planets at any given time, as well as the correct positions of the zodiacal fixed star signs in relation to any place on earth at any given time. Once the correct positions of the signs and planets are known, the Atharva Vedic Punditsthen constructs charts representing these positions, and using the astrological science, studies the charts and can make quite a wide range of conclusions about the moment the chart was cast for. Astrology sees mankind as being not only influenced by hereditary factors and the environment, but also by the state of our solar system at the moment of birth. The planets are regarded as basic life-forces, the tools we live by as well as the basis of our very substance. These planetary forces take on different forms, depending on their zodiacal position and on the way they relate to one another. The aspects formed between the planets describe these relationships, the positions of the planets in relation to the place of birth tell us of their expression in the spheres of life depicted by the astrological houses. By interpreting the roles of these players (the planets) and their qualities (the elements, signs and houses) and creating a synthesis, astrology is able to present a complete and comprehensive picture of the person and his potential, based on the natal horoscope. Astrology is without doubt the original science, the oldest of the sysytems of knowledge devised by human beings. It is the science of fate/destiny used for understanding events happening on earth. Astrology is not only the foremost of the outer sciences which deal with the nature of the physical universe, it is one of the most important of the inner or spiritual sciences which deal with the mind and soul. Branches of Vedic Astrology Vedic astrology (Jyotisha) has three main branches: · Siddhanta (Astronomy) · Samhita (Mundane astrology) · Hora (Predictive astrology) The Science of Astrology is concerned with the observations of the positions of certain bodies and certain points in the heavens in relation to the earth and with the correspondences between these relative positions and the events which occur on the Earth. That such correspondences do exist is unquestionable. Modern scientific experiments and observation could easily verify this and confirm the findings of the ancient scientists. It does not necessarily follow

that the planets and the stars themselves affect or cause such events. It is sufficient to note that certain positions or groupings of the stars or planets in relation to the earth actually do correspond to certain types of events which occur on the earth. To make the necessary observations and to translate these observations into terms of correspondence with events occurring on the Earth, both physical and psychological, Hindu Astrologers evolved a rational procedure which is based on five main factors: 1.The Zodiac fixed background to which all heavenly bodies are referred. This background is divided into twelve equal parts. (See Figure I). 2. The Asterisms-Subdivisions of the Fixed Background or Zodiac into smaller sections marked by the Fixed Stars. (See Figure 2.) 3. The Solar System-The Sun, the Moon and the planets which, like the Earth, comprise our own Solar system. The motions of these bodies from point to point within the Fixed Background and in relation to the Earth. 4. The Houses-Imaginary space divisions, radiating out vertically from any particular point on the Earth’s surface, and marking out divisions of space, traversed by this point during each twenty-four hours, as the Earth revolves on its own axis. 5. Time-Any given moment at which an event occurs. THE ZODIAC In order to determine these positions and groupings accurately, Astrologers use a fixed background or plane of reference called the Zodiac. The Zodiacal Circle is in the same plane as the Ecliptic which is the approximate path of the Earth and Planets in their motion around the Sun. The Zodiac, therefore, is merely the Ecliptic extended limitlessly into space. These twelve equal sections or divisions of the Zodiac are called the Signs of the Zodiac and are named and numbered as follows: (l ) Aries (2) Taurus (3) Gemini (4) Cancer (5) Leo (6) Virgo (7) Libra (8) Scorpio (9) Sagittarius (10) Capricorn (11) Aquarius (12) Pisces Vedic Terminology : 1. Mesha 2. Vrishabha 3. Mithuna 4. Karka 5. Sinha 6. Kanya 7. Tula 8. Vrischika 9. Dhanu 10. Makara 11. Kumbha 12. Mina THE ASTERISMS or NAKSHTRA It was observed by the ancient Astronomers that many changes occurred within the 30 degree zones mapped out by the Zodiac. It was therefore, found necessary to subdivide each of the twelve sections or Signs of the Zodiac. Using the belt of Fixed Stars which encircle the Earth at the Equator as markers, they divided the Zodiacal Background into 27 sections, the boundary of each being marked by a particular Fixed Star, located close to the Zodiacal belt. These sections are known as the Asterisms or Nakshatras. They begin at the same point in the Constellation Aries which marks the beginning of the Zodiac,. and since each extends over an

arc of 13 deg-20’, there are therefore twenty-seven of them in the complete circle of 360 degrees. PLANETS The Zodiac and the Asterisms form the fixed background to which all the variables or moving points used in Astrology are referred. A sort of backdrop, in front of which the drama of our solar system is played. Importance of Vedic Astrology Astrology is the language of the stars ... it is in fact the Universal language. Astrology is basically a science of time. Every moment in time has a certain quality attached to it. By being born at a particular moment in time under the heavens we imbibe this quality. The personal horoscope is just a simplified map of the heavens at the moment we are born. It is in turn a guide map for our journey through time on the planet known as earth. Astrology does not pronounce any judgement. Just like nature, it has no good or bad. It just reveals what was, what is, and what can be. Astrology is not about depending on fate as a lot of people purport it to be. In fact, it puts more emphasis on karma than fate. Today’s ‘karma’ is tomorrow’s ‘fate’. Astrology is the science of ‘light’ and lights the path known as life. It is finally up to us to traverse the path once it has been lighted. Astrology is amazingly accurate ... it can work accurately even on a daily or hourly basis if required. Astrology is not only the foremost of the outer sciences which deal with the nature of the physical universe, it is one of the most important of the inner or spiritual sciences which deal with the mind and soul. Nakshatra OR Constellations It was observed by the ancient Astronomers that many changes occurred within the 30 degree zones mapped out by the Zodiac. They begin at the same point in the Constellation Aries which marks the beginning of the Zodiac,. and since each extends over an arc of 13deg-20’, there are therefore twenty-seven of them in the complete circle of 360 degrees. The Zodiac, therefore, divides heavens into twelve equal sections of thirty degrees each. The Asterisms, however, are sections or divisions of the heavens of 13deg-20’ each. But it was found that changes in conditions and characteristics occurred even within these smaller boundaries and so each Asterism is further subdivided into arcs of 3deg-20’ or into quarter sections. As we have seen, the birth chart reflects what circumstances in this life we can expect to experience. According to the Vedic Astrology, these effects are a result of past actions, actions in previous lifetimes. Our time and place of birth is not random, it precisely specifies a birth chart for us, delivering the results of our past actions through the quality of Natural Law at the time of birth. The act of birth imprints these laws in our physiology and the environment we are born in. The planetary positions are merely convenient indicators of those laws, accurate instruments to measure, calculate and interpret these laws. The interpretation of the birth chart is merely a reflection of our stage of evolution at the time of our birth; it does not limit us in any way to grow and improve upon it. Even though the analysis includes a lifetime of dashas and transits, one should realize that all of that remains relative to the evolutionary state at the time of birth. Past actions are the result of past choices. When people become aware of choices that they no longer wish to keep, they can change their life by starting to choose differently. New choices will start creating new responses, which will gradually change our circumstances. Reactions and responses from past actions take time to manifest, and remove those karmas. Remedial measures are things we can do to help correct or neutralize the undesired results of past actions. There are different types of remedial measures. wearing ear plugs. Being around that kind of noise, which are lower vibrations of themselves, can make you restless or agitated in due time, tend to pull your consciousness down in a way that makes you think in very basic terms. They can make your mind become absorbed in the lower modes of thinking, like simply desiring to satisfy your senses, wanting to go to the bar after work to drown your thoughts, or thinking of whatever will give you the easiest thrill. In other words, exposure to low vibrations tends to produce low consciousness simply by your exposure to them. Let’s explain this a little more. The science of vibrations and frequencies and how they effect people is something that has been around for thousands of years. We can still find evidence of this in the ancient Vedic texts of India. These explain not only the results of using the frequencies of words and mantras, but also supply instructions in some cases.

Simple Ancient Mantra The ancient Mantras that heal ॐ भूर्भुवस्वः । : तत् सवितुर्वरेण्यं ।: भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि । धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ॥ The Gayatri Mantra is the most revered mantra in Hinduism. It consists of the prefix :oṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ ॐ भूर्भुवस्वः, a formula taken from the Yajurveda, and the verse 3.62.10 of the Rigveda (which is an example of the Gayatri meter). Since all the other three Vedas contain much material rearranged from the Rig Veda, the Gayatri mantra is found in all the four Vedas. The deva invoked in this mantra is Savitar, and hence the mantra is also called Sāvitrī. Ever wondered what is the significance or importance of Mantra. or the sacred ancient vedic hymns?? Were they like ‘keys’ that would unlock the sacred pathway leading to a world beyond the unseen? Let’s try to get some answers using scientific and ancient wisdom There are all kinds of frequencies and vibrations all around us. There are frequencies we see (such as light waves), hear (sound waves), or feel, and others that are beyond our ability to sense, such as gamma rays, infrared, or radio and television frequencies. In fact, the ancient Vedic texts of India explain, in summary, that this whole universe is the production or manifestation from particular vibrations that cause a change from the spiritual energy into the material energy. And all these frequencies effect us in many ways. For example, we may hear music that can be soothing and peaceful, or that is abrasive and irritating. Or there may be frequencies that we have to deal with on a more regular basis, like the noise we hear when working in a factory, or the sounds of downtown traffic. Walk through a factory. The noise and vibrational level of the frequencies that you hear and feel are not attractive. In fact, they may be damaging to your hearing and necessitate the need for

Karma 8

The sages of ancient India used it to produce various results in the rituals they performed, and from the mantras they would recite. If the mantras were recited in particular ways, certain amazing results would take place, including changing the weather, producing certain types of living beings, or even palaces. Others used it to produce weapons, like the brahmashtra weapon, which was equal to the modern nuclear bombs. Specific mantras could be attached to arrows, with the sound causing powerful explosions when the arrow reached its target. Others used the science of vibrations to bring their consciousness to higher levels of perception, or to enter spiritual reality. We can see the results of exposure to certain frequencies in other ways as well. Even now there has been research that has provided discoveries on the use of frequencies. They have worked with plants, exposing them to various kinds of music. Plants would thrive when exposed to classical music, while they would languish or wither when around heavy rock music. However, considering the nature of the mostly unenlightened society in which we live, some of these discoveries have not been for the benefit of the world and are quite scary to think of the results that may happen. There has been proved to be a psycho-physiological sensitivity in animals and humans to magnetic and electrical fields in extremely low frequencies (ELF) corresponding to brain waves. These ELF, which can penetrate anything, have made it possible for the military to have a world-wide communication system with its submarines, which can be situated in any part of the world. Man is a bio-cosmic transducer, a transmitter and receiver as well, and that somehow our brain waves can lock on and modulate with the earth’s electromagnetic field, the Universal Magnetic Field (UMF), as Tesla called it. Research has shown that altering these electromagnetic fields can influence the brain waves of cats and monkeys. Humans are also affected.

Anything above eleven hertz produces a general range of agitation and discontent. High voltage power lines throw off 50 to 60 hertz, and there’s been concern about what they can do to people who live near them. Some feel that such lines, or even the use of such items as electric blankets, can cause cancer because of the unnatural magnetic field to which the body is exposed. Researchers have concluded that humans are electrical people. For example, our hearts can start or stop due to appropriate electrical impulses. The use of pacemakers is an example of helping maintain a steady heartbeat. Thus, electro magnetic radiation could be the most harmful pollutant in our society. There is strong evidence that cancer and other diseases can be triggered by electromagnetic waves. There are machines that use frequencies for beneficial use. There is a medical device called a Multiple Wave Oscillator, first developed by a French researcher and improved by solid state electronics. It used a miniature Tesla system consisting of two copper coils. When activated, a magnetic field is generated between the two coils and the frequencies can be adjusted for the electricity that flowed from one coil to the other. The result is multiple waves of inherently good frequencies to help heal various parts of the body. Sore knees or torn muscles can be placed inside the magnetic fields for a few minutes at a time, helping it to heal much faster than with conventional methods. Researchers have found that frequencies under seven hertz create a general feeling of relaxation and well being, known as the alpha state. The most beneficial frequency on earth is said to be the 6.8 hertz frequency. Interestingly, the Pyramid at Giza has a constant frequency of 6.8 hertz running through it. Although researchers have studied it, they don’t know where it comes from or why in such an ancient structure. The Nadha Brahmam “Ohm” or “ॐ” or in Modern terminology Schumman resonance has a close significance Aum corresponds to the strongest of the schuman resonance among all other bio magnetic fields. We can relate the seven different chakras in body to these sounds and also with Schumann Resonances of earth, ie, 7.83, 14, 20, 26, 33, 39 and 45 Hertz of earth. We all know 7.83 hz being the strongest of all. ॐ - 7.83Hz : Gam - 14hz :Hleem - 20Hz ; Hreem - 26Hz: Kleem - 33Hz: Krowm - 39Hz: Sreem - 45Hz This points to the idea that the ancients knew the importance of frequencies and how to use them in order to provide an atmosphere for attaining a peaceful state of mind for entering higher states of consciousness and perception of spiritual reality. The use of yoga has utilized this principle for as long as it had been known--many hundreds of years. Concentrating on the steady breathing, as in hatha-yoga, is a means of leveling and harmonizing the electrical impulses of the body and the beating of the heart. Invoking the alpha state by a natural means allows one to also reach a vibrational state in which the consciousness can enter higher levels of being and perception. The body is not only conducting the more balanced frequencies, but it begins to generate them as well. It is as if the body and mind are creating its own atmosphere in which it can further its more spiritual development, with or without the proper atmosphere around it. Building structures, like the pyramids and pyramid-like temples, which are common in such places as India and Central America,

may provide the assistance for doing that, along with the physical exercises of yoga and the use of prayers, mantras, or rituals. By implementing such things on a regular basis in one’s life, it would increase one’s peaceful existence, bring about a higher state of consciousness, and insights into a level of reality beyond ordinary sense perception. In other words, it would naturally take one closer to the Truth of our existence. It would, as Tesla was hoping, bring the peace that would come from a natural consequence of universal enlightenment A key point in this regard is the ancient use of mantras, as already mentioned earlier. Not only could certain results be attained by the proper use of vibrations in sounds, but even today the use of particular mantras are known for calming the mind, lowering blood pressure, relieving one from unnecessary anxieties by changing one’s focus in life, and so on. It is also understood that certain mantras and prayers, such as the chanting of the spiritual names of God, bring to one the transcendental vibration of the spiritual world from where it comes. This means it is like a conductor, bringing the spiritual energy and frequencies that come from the transcendental strata. Thus, by absorbing one’s consciousness in the sound vibration of these names of God, it will do several things, such as alter and improve the electrical impulses that are generated by the body, and help defend oneself from the negative impulses that one may encounter. In this way, it helps create a peaceful attitude within the individual and a healthier disposition. It also prepares one’s consciousness for perceiving higher levels of reality, opens one up to the spiritual world, gradually reveals one’s true spiritual identity, which would also allow one to see the unity between all people. It also harmonizes one’s existence with nature, and even begins to rekindle one’s real relationship with the Supreme Soul, God. Once the higher vibration of the spiritual realm is invoked on a regular basis in this way, and is opened for its use among the people in general, the chances for world change become enormous. Naturally, this may not happen immediately. One needs to be able to concentrate on those spiritual sounds appropriately. This means to rid oneself of the clutter in one’s mind. Only by purely focusing on the sound of the holy names can one truly feel its power, and open its potential. This is why there is a need for living a simple and honest life, and developing sincerity and devotion. It makes such a difference in being able to focus on the chanting of these spiritual prayers and mantras with feeling. Then one gives up that clutter which gets in the way of truly hearing the sounds and allows them to have a deep affect on one’s life. That is when the deep changes and insights can begin to take place. When the general masses of people begin to participate in this process, that is when the collective vibrations around the world can begin to bring social changes that will help lead all people to a higher and more peaceful state of being. The general frequencies that we generate and receive will then naturally be of a harmonious and spiritual nature.

THE TRANSFORMATIONAL DIVINE LIGHT -His Holiness Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar Experience is what causes change in a person. Someone has very aptly stated: “No one can persuade another to change. Each of us guards a gate of change that can only be opened from the inside. We cannot open the gate of another, either by argument or emotional appeal.”Opinions, facts, arguments, or emotional appeal do not produce changes in a person’s behaviour or thoughts because the gate of change “can only be opened from the inside.” Experience is the sole key to unlock the gate of change. For instance, do health warnings on cigarette cartons and bottles of alcohol really deter buyers from purchasing such detrimental items? No! The only way users stop from taking in such intoxicants is when their lungs, heart, liver, or any vital organ suffers. Hence, experiencing the injurious effects produces the necessary change. St. John proclaims: “God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5. Seeing the divine light of God from within is the ultimate experience needed to transform a person into a self-recognised spiritual being. The direct experience of God is further spoken of in the book of Corinthians: “For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of the darkness,’ made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.” Corinthians 4:6. Through the grace of the Christ-like Perfect Master, the doors to the inner world are opened and one begins to gaze at the visions present inside. We are familiar with only one reality - the external. But, we know so very little about what lies within, what God is waiting to show us. Saint Kabir has said, “In this body lie lush gardens, in this body lies the Supreme, in this body lies the shimmering diamond necklace, and in this body lies my Perfect Master.” As a person with external vision can change his appearance to make it more appealing or can enhance his understanding of certain trades, professions, subjects through the use of his organs of sight (which feed information to the brain), likewise, an individual with internal vision, the divine eye, can change himself for the better. He can see himself in the effulgent light of God. Without such a vision, he would be handicapped and rendered unable to uplift himself from the doldrums and superficiality of material existence. Upon the opening of the divine eye, the first transformation that takes place is that one practically sees that he is spirit, not body. Swami Vivekananda illustrates this idea. He says, “Here I stand and if I shut my eyes, and try to conceive my existence, ‘I,’ ‘I,’ ‘I,’ what is the idea before me? The idea of a body. Am I, then, nothing but a combination of material substances? The Vedas declare ‘No.’ I am a spirit living in a body. The body will die, but I shall not die.” Spiritual aspirants, when blessed with the grace Karma 10

of a Spiritual Master, have spontaneous visions of the immortal spirit through the Divine Eye, reinforcing the perennial fact that we are, in reality, the part and parcel of the Almighty, who resides within us as the luminous soul. Lord Krishna says in the Gita, “Ishwara sarvabhootanaam hrdesh arjun tishthti.” – “O Arjuna! I am the Supreme, ever-shining in the chambers of all hearts!” During the course of meditation on the internal light, spiritual growth also takes place. Through diligent practice, a person begins to transform by sharpening his power of discrimination, rising above selfishness, pride, and falsity. He develops the ability to shake off envy, greed, attachment, etc. because he views life with a broader vision - seeing beyond the pettiness, egotism, and over-extensive passions of this world. Having the visions of light blessed by the Perfect Master is the first life-altering experience, as it eventually leads one to coming transformations. One should note that victories in moral behaviour without seeing the divine light of God are good, but small in comparison to the undivided bliss that one experiences when in communion with the light of the inner-world. That bliss creates a saint out of a sinner, as one realizes his own purity and strength and inspires others to fashion their life in righteousness as well. Most importantly, our transformation rests solely on our own shoulders. We bear the onus of self-growth. The divine light and the merciful hands of the Perfect Master give us the stamina and hope for refinement, but will should come from us, as we are responsible for no one but our own selves. Swami Vivekananda puts it brilliantly: “How will you behave if a little baby is put on your hands? Your whole life will be changed for a moment; whatever you may be, you must become selfless for a time being. You will give up all your criminal ideas as soon as responsibility is thrown upon you - your whole character will change. So if the whole responsibility is thrown upon our own shoulders, we shall be at our highest and best; when we have nobody to grope towards, no devil to lay or blame upon, no personal deity to carry our burdens; when we are alone responsible, then we shall rise to our highest and best. I am responsible for my fate, I am the bringer of good unto myself, I am the bringer of evil.” Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar has documented and helped countless number of cases of hard-core criminals who have attested to their changed behavior through Spiritual Knowledge imparted to them behind bars. Thousands of acquitted and released prisoners have laid a new foundation for themselves, and many have taken on the responsibility of keeping themselves on the track of righteousness and actively helping others to give up the life of crime. We too can produce important changes in our lives through the grace of the Perfect Master. Changing our perception from body to soul, from aggression to compassion, from ego-centricity to humility will enliven, enlarge, and enrich us as human beings. The experience of the divine light awaits us.

Meaning of Yagna: In its gross form, Yagna is a spiritual experiment of sacrificing and sublimating the havana sámagri (herbal preparations) in the fire accompanied by the chanting of Vedic mantras. This is only the outer physical process or ritual of Yagna, which has scientific importance and beneficial effects. This agni-yagna when performed on a small scale is also known as havan, homam or agnihotra.

–The Foundation of Vedic Culture Gayatri mantra and Yagna constitute the foundation of the Vedic Culture. While Gayatri mantra imparts wisdom and pure intelligence, Yagna inspires corresponding creativity and actions. In talking of the Vedic age the images of the great rishis performing agnihotra-yagnas instantly flashes before our sight. In those days, apart from the rishis, the rich and the poor, the kings and citizens also had an equally deep faith and respect for Yagna and they used to sincerely participate in and lend wholehearted support for different kinds of Yagnas. The rishis used to spend at least one-third of their lives in conducting Yagnas. It was a common belief and an observed fact in the Vedic Indian society that Yagna was essential for the refinement of human life from a shudra (i.e. a person living a life driven by animal instincts) to a Brahmin (i.e. a wise, knowledgeable, charitable person), and ultimately to a divine, great personality. Yagnas played an essential role in the all-round progress, prosperity and happiness in the Vedic age. This was indeed natural, as the philosophy and science of Yagna and the different modes of performing agni-yagna were discovered and developed by the rishis based on their deep understanding and in-depth research of the human psyche, the intricacies of the social fabric and the mysteries of Nature. The brilliance and purity of agni (fire) appears to be a universal symbol for worship. The rituals of different religions affirm this fact. The first mantra of Rigaveda – the most ancient scripture of knowledge on Earth, quotes “agnimiÃe purohitam”, signifying agni as a sacred symbol of God. This is what is referred to in different religious and spiritual scriptures as Brahmateja, Divine Flame, Sacred Glow, Divine Light, Latent Light, etc. The Vedic hymn “agne supathá ráye” prays to this omnipotent, supreme power to enlighten and inspire us towards the righteous path. The same is meant in the phrase “dhiyo yonah prachodayát” of the great Gayatri Mantra.

The meaning of yagna is not confined to this sacrificial ritual. It has a much wider and deeper meaning. The word yagna is derived from the Sanskrit verb yaj, which has a three-fold meaning: worship of deities (devapujana), unity (saògatikaraña) and charity (dána). The philosophy of yagna teaches a way of living in the society in harmony and a lifestyle which promotes and protects higher human values in the society, which is indeed the basis of an ideal human culture. Scientific Aspects of Yagna: The four Vedas signify the philosophy of the eternity and complementarity of Gayatri and Yagna in the divine creations. Further, the Atharvaveda also deals with the sound therapy aspects of the mantras. They can be used for the treatment of the ailing human system at the physical, psychological and spiritual levels. The Samaveda focuses on the musical chanting patterns of the mantras and the subtle form of yagna by defining the latter as the process of mental oblation on the surface of internal emotions through the cosmic radiations of the omnipresent subtle energy of sound. The Yajurveda contains the knowledge of the principles and the methods of performing yagnas as a part of the spiritual and scientific experiments for global welfare. The effects of yagna include treatment of various diseases and the removal of atmospheric pollution (discussed in detail in the coming issues). Another prominent effect is parjanya. Parjanya implies sublime showers of vital energy and spiritual strength from the upper cosmic planes (higher space). As the natural fertilizers add to the fertility of soil, the unique confluence of the power of mantra, thermal force and sublimated herbal energy in yagna increases the vital energy (práña)1 in the atmosphere while purifying the air. This práña is inherent in the air. The sádhaka, having prepared himself through práñáyáma, is able to inhale this parjanya along with oxygen through inner determination (samkalpa). The flow of fresh air in the morning has been found to be rich in práña. The larger the scale of yajgns and the longer their duration, the greater would be these effects. The parjanya generated by yagna augments the level of práña in the air. This effect is condensed around the yagnashálá (the area where is yagna performed) but is also prevalent in the wider space and continues to expand with the flow of air

with the process of yagna. If we pour some oil drops in a pot containing water, the oil separates itself from water and spreads on the surface of water. In a similar way, the energy of yagna expands all around in the open space. Its práña, its essence, its energy, is also present in the water contained in the clouds. This is showered in the form of rain and thus gets absorbed in the soil, crops and vegetation. The soil irrigated by it is found to be more fertile and the grains, fruits and vegetables grown there are tastier and have higher nutritive value. The milk of the cows which graze the grass grown on such lands is also of excellent quality. Drinking the milk and eating the fruits and vegetables energized by yagna increases our stamina, resistance against infections and diseases, and mental astuteness. In fact the cosmic flow of práña is omnipresent in the subliminal realms of Nature. It enables all activities, movements and evolution of living beings. All creatures possess práña and therefore they are called práñi. Práña is the source of our vital strength. If it were present in substantial amount in the body, an apparently lean and skinny person would be very strong and healthy (e.g. Mahatma Gandhi). Its elevated levels are expressed in mental radiance, intellectual sharpness and talents. Its reduction on the contrary would render a physically robust person weak, lethargic and dull. Reduction of this subtle energy in plants and trees would diminish the shining beauty of flowers, and nutrient quality of fruits, vegetables and grains. Decreased levels of práña in the air, despite the presence of substantial amounts of oxygen, would lessen its vitality. Even deep breathing of this otherwise ‘fresh’ air would not have the desired healthy effects. People living at such places are found to lack vital strength, immunity and mental sharpness. The parjanya extracted by yagna compensates for these deficiencies. Types of Yagnas: A variety of yagnas are described in the scriptures. The seva yagna, meaning service to the society, is a noble example of yagna. The jóána yagna corresponds to the service of people by enlightening their lives with the glow of knowledge and education. The práña yagna implies the selfless service of saving the lives of people from sufferings and agonies and inspiring liveliness and reverence for life in them.

Modern times and ignorance towards a great tradition: In the tides of time we lost and forgot the original purpose, relevance and importance of yagna in our life. It won’t be an exaggeration to conclude that this negligence has been a major cause of our fallen and miserable state today. Nevertheless, there is a hope of reviving the yagna in its original form, as we have somehow continued the tradition of yagna as a holy custom and occasionally perform it, in some form at least, as a symbolic ritual. Although lifeless and deformed, a feeble and hazy image of this ancient tradition is still with us. All important ceremonies, including the shoÃaÌ samskáras (sixteen rituals that are performed at various stages of life from birth till death), are conducted with yagna. For instance, the Vedic mode of the wedding ceremony (viváha samskára) takes place in the presence of the sacred flames of yagna. As the melting heat of the fire welds and binds two metal pieces, the pious glow and the spiritual warmth of the yagyágni (the fire of yagna) conjugate the souls of the bride and the groom through the sacred knot of marriage. The cremation rites (dáha or aòtyeÌÚi samskára) is also a yagna. The significance of yagna in the thread ceremony (upanayana samskára) is selfevident, as the sacred thread donned to symbolize the initiation of an enlightened life is called “yajóopavita”. This thread is always worn in the auspicious presence of yajóágni. Yagna is also performed during the programme of katha-kirtan (the recital of an allegoric story along with devotional songs), religious celebrations and the occasions of special festivals. For example, Holi, which is celebrated these days as a colour festival was originally a festival of yagna to celebrate the harvesting of ripe crop every year. A handful of fresh grains is required to be sacrificed in the “holi- yagna” as a mark of expressing gratitude to God’s grace. It also signifies the spirit of purifying the grain in yajóágni before using it in food preparations. Yagna is also performed on religious functions like Satya Narayan Katha, Bhagvat Katha, Ramayan Parayan, etc. Specific yagnas are also invariably linked with the Vedic as well as the tántrika sádhaná-anusthánas. Gayatri sádhaná is regarded incomplete without yagna. The number of áhutis offered in the havans or yagnas organized to mark the end of Gáyatri anuÌÚhána or mahápurascarañas should at least equal the tenth or hundredth fraction of the number of japas completed everyday in these sádhanás. Worshipping various manifestations of God is also required to be carried out with specific kinds of yagna, as described in the holy places of pilgrimage. The prominence of tirthas, the places of pilgrimage, is also associated with yagna since the Vedic Age. The places where grand yagnas were organized and conducted by the rishis became tirthas and are still revered as holy destinations of pilgrimage in India.

saw Harry picking up the eggs, he asked him, “Harry, you have no hens. Then where did you get these hens from?”

Stories as a narrative or tale of real or fictitious events. Stories are a nourishment for our hungry souls. Often stories we regard as fiction have elements of truth dressed up to make them more palatable. Stories are magic, taking us everywhere: backwards, forwards or happening right in the present time, transporting us to many places and situations we might never go.

Harry innocently replied, “Some hens come in my garden and lay eggs. I am lucky to get free eggs daily.” Since that day, the hens of Danny never entered the garden of Harry.

THE EGG PLOY Once in a city there were two neighbours Harry and Danny. Harry would always remain tense as the hens of his neighbor daily used to enter his garden and ruin it.

The shopkeeper showing her a very good net said, “This is the best quality which you won’t be able to find elsewhere. Not even a single mosquito can pass through it.”

One day Harry came to know that Danny was away. So, he placed some eggs in the garden. When Danny returned home and

Mrs. David refused to but the net. When the shopkeeper asked the reason, she said, “If a mosquito can’t pass through it, then how will we pass through it.” Then she returned home and narrated the whole matter to her husband.

THE MOSQUITO NET One day David asked his wife to go to the market and buy a mosquito net. His wife went to a shop and asked the shopkeeper to show her the best quality net.

Hearing the whole matter, David laughed at his wife’s foolishness. THE RIGHT CHOICE Once upon a time, a wise and generous king ruled Burma. One day, his prime minister retired. Now the king had to find his replacement. There were two names for the post- Leuk and Batuk. Leuk was lazy but Batuk was hard working as well as intelligent. The king organized a boat race. But suddenly something seemed to disturb the calm waters of the river. Karma 20

Leuk said that it was some monster and returned to the shore. Batuk dived into the river and took the culprit out. It was just a coconut, which the king himself had placed there. Batuk was chosen as the prime minister. A CAT AND A RAT Once there was a cat called Lucy and a rat named Taffy. Taffy was a smart rat. Every time Lucy tried to catch him, he would run back to his hole. One day, Lucy thought of a plan. She took a dish full of milk and kept it in front of the hole where Taffy lived. When Taffy peeped out of the hole, he saw Lucy hiding there. Suddenly, Lucy saw a long hollow pipe coming out of the hole. Taffy drank all the milk of the dish through the pipe. Poor Lucy sat on looking at the empty dish. STEALING IS BAD One day, Rosy went to a grocery shop to buy bread. When she saw that the shopkeeper was busy with the other customers, she stole some toffees from a jar. When she got back home, her mother asked her that where did she get the toffees? Rosy told her mother the truth. Her mother said, “It’s really very bad to steal. The shopkeeper might not be looking at you but the God is always looking at you all the time. So, one should never steal.”

Rosy understood the words of her mother and went back to the shop to return the toffees to the shopkeeper.

To catch hold of the basket, he lost his grip on the goat. Within few seconds, the current carried away all three of his companions.

The shopkeeper felt happy on seeing her honesty and gave her some toffees as a reward.

TWO NEIGHBOURS Once there were two ladies who were neighbours. One of them was very fat while the other was very thin. They always kept fighting with each other. All other neighbors were fed up of their quarrels.

FEAR OF GOD Once there were two brothers who were very naughty. Always they were up to some mischief. One day, their mother asked a priest to talk to her sons and put the fear of god in them so that they would mend their ways. The priest asked her to send her sons to him one by one. Firstly, the younger brother went to the priest and sat by his side. The priest asked him in a commanding voice, “Where is God?” The boy didn’t react. When the priest asked again, the boy ran to his elder brother and said, “Do you know God is missing and everybody thinks that we are responsible for this.” THE MANGO TREE Once there lived a lazy man in a village. His only source of income was a mango tree, which was planted in the backyard of his house. One day, one of his relatives came to his house. At breakfast, lunch and dinner, only mangoes were served to the relative. He got fed up of this and thought of a plan. At night, when the lazy man was sleeping, the relative quietly woke up, cut down the tree and fled away. Next day, when the man saw that the tree was cut down, he cried a lot. After few years, the same relative again came to his house. By now, the man had worked and prospered. His condition had improved. He thanked the relative for making him realize his mistake. NAUGHTINESS IS HARMFUL A man used to move from village to village with his acrobatic team of a goat, a monkey and a snake to entertain people. Once, while crossing a river, he balanced the snake basket on his head, sat the monkey on his shoulder and guided the goat with his hand. The level of the water was low but there flowed a strong current. Midway, the naughty monkey opened the snake basket. The snake within the darkness of the basket sprung up with its head high. The hissing and the fury frightened the monkey and it fell into the water. The current started dragging the monkey away. A split-second effort to save the monkey threw the charmer off balance and the snake basket fell into the stream.

One day, an elderly person said to both the ladies, “Why do you quarrel so much? Can’t you be like the wheels of a two wheeler where one wheel compliments the other?” At this the thin lady said, “Yes, but how can a vehicle move smoothly when one tyre is of a tractor and other of a cycle.” Everybody present there started laughing, hearing such a witty answer ONLY FOR LOVE Two donkeys who were friends, met at a crossroad. One donkey was healthy and the other malnourished. The healthy donkey asked the weak one, “What happen to you? Why do you seem so weak?” The weak donkey replied, “My master makes me work the whole day and doesn’t give me enough food to eat and also beats me.” “Oh” exclaimed the healthy donkey. “Then why don’t you run away from your master’s house.” He replied, “I think my job has better prospects. My master beats his only daughter, too. And whenever he does so, he says to her, “I’ll marry you off to this donkey.” For this reason I’m not running away.” THE DISGUISED PEACOCK Once a crow felt like becoming a peacock. He got some feathers of peacock from somewhere and pasted them on his tail. Then he went among some peacock. But the peacocks recognized him. They pecked all over his body and threw him out.

The crow felt glum and returned to his race. When his family came to know about his deed, they also felt very angry and pecked him hard.

WHO IS POOR Once upon a time, there was a renowned saint. Many people used to visit him to get his blessings.

Thus, the crow decided never to follow others.

Once a rich and greedy merchant went to him and offered him a bag full of gold coins. The saint refused to accept the offerings and said, “I don’t accept money from people who are very poor.”

THE FLUTE PLAYER Tom was very brave and intelligent. One day, while playing, he went far into the forest. Just then a jackal saw him. He decided to eat the boy and came in his way. When Tom saw that he had no way to save himself, he said to the jackal, “Brother, I am not afraid of death but I want to die peacefully. So, I want to play my flute and dance to its tune. Then you can eat me.” The jackal permitted him. As soon as, Tom started playing his flute, his dog came running. The dog saw the jackal and leapt on it. The jackal ran for his life. Tom returned home with his dog. THE MANAGER Once, Mr. Lion was looking for a manager to look after his business. Many animals applied for the post and were interviewed. Finally, came the turn of monkey. When the monkey was questioned that why he should be appointed as the manager, he replied, “Sir, you are looking for a dynamic manager who can handle a variety of jobs.” At this, the lion asked the monkey to prove his capability. The monkey said, “Sir, in the past year, I have changed 10 jobs. Don’t you think, I am capable of doing various jobs.” Lion laughed at the witty reply and appointed him as the manager.

The merchant said, “But I’m very rich.” “Don’t you wish to earn more money?” asked the saint. “Yes”, said the merchant. “Those who wish for money always run after it. They can do anything to acquire it. No one is as poor as these people” said the saint. The merchant felt ashamed and went back to his home. NEVER TELL A LIE On his deathbed, a father advised his son to always speak truth. The son promised that he would never tell a lie. One day, while going to the city through a forest, he got surrounded by some robbers. One of them asked, “What do you have?” The boy answered, “I have fifty rupees.” They searched him but couldn’t find anything. When they were about to go, the boy called out, “I am not telling a lie. See this fifty rupee note which I had hidden in my shirt.” The leader of the robbers felt pleased at the truthfulness of the boy, gave him hundred rupees as reward and went away. HARD WORK ALWAYS PAYS Once two friends called Harry and Garry came to a city to earn money. They went to a rich merchant for a job. The merchant gave each of them a cane basket and pointing towards a well in his garden said, “Take these baskets and draw water from the well till dusk.” Harry thought it foolish to draw water in a cane basket. So, he slept. On the other hand, Garry kept working. After few hours, when he drew the basket up, he saw some gold coins in the basket. He took them to the merchant who rewarded him and gave him a job too. Harry went away ashamed.

Dasoupadesam “The Ten Hindu Commandments” - Param Pujya Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar The living God His Holiness Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar’s ten Hindu Commandments are as follows: 1. One of our duties as human beings is to avail ourselves of every opportunity to do good to others. The poor can serve others by their loyal work to the country and the rich by their wealth to help the poor. Those who are influential can use their influence to better the condition of the lowly. That way we can keep alive in our hearts a sense of social service. 2. Man by himself cannot create even a blade of grass. We will be guilty of gross ingratitude if we do not offer first to God what we eat or wear - only the best and choicest should be offered to Him. 3. Life without love is a waste. Everyone should cultivate “Prema” or love towards all human beings, bird and beast.

4. Wealth amassed by a person whose heart is closed to charity is generally dissipated by the inheritors: but the family of philanthropists will always be blessed with happiness. 5. A person who has done a meritorious deed will lose the resulting merit if he listens to the praise of others or himself boasts of his deeds. 6. It will do not good to freeze over what has happened. If we learn to discriminate between good and evil, that will guard us from falling into the evil again. 7. We should utilize to good purpose, the days of our life-time. We should engage ourselves in acts which will contribute to the welfare of others rather than to our selfish desires. 8. We should perform duties that have been prescribed for our daily life and also be filled with devotion to God. 9. One attains one’s goal by performance of one’s duties. 10. Jnana is the only solvent of our troubles and sufferings.

Vegetarian? You are what you eat

Whatever you eat, whatever you put into your stomach, it will reflect on your body and mind and in this way on your physical as well as your mental health. Eating is not just filling your stomach like filling a garbage bin. Food is not only food, it is vitamins, minerals, fibres, carbohydrates, proteins and more which our body needs not only to survive but also to be in balance and be healthy and strong which then of course has an impact on our mind and overall being. So you need to take care what you take into your body, it will be part of your system. A balanced vegetarian diet is the solution. Why you should be vegetarian and not eat meat? How eating meat harms your health Eating meat, which means any kind of flesh food including fish and poultry, has several harmful effects on your body. Apart from the fact that a nonvegetarian diet often contains fatter than the body needs or can use, the meat also contains hormones, herbicides, pesticides and antibiotics due to the way that the animals were kept. All of these substances enter your body while eating and your body needs to work to get rid of all of them again. But of course some enter the body and together with other harmful substances which were created during the preparation they increase major chronic diseases like cancer, heart disease, kidney disease and osteoporosis. It is not only on our body that eating meat has negative effects; our emotions and our mind also are affected by it. If you take the saying ‘you are what you eat’ and you see people who eat animals, then watch them and see that the saying is true. A meateater often has more easily emotions like anger and aggression. And many people are aware of what they are doing - killing to eat. And the minutes of death of the animal that you are eating are with you whenever you take a bite. Health benefits of a vegetarian diet In the west there is still the wrong perception that eating meat is necessary for your health. On the contrary a proper vegetarian diet gives you more energy, keeps your body healthy and free of toxins. Studies and researches have found that vegetarians live longer and more healthily than meat-eaters. Karma 30

If you keep a diet with vegetables, grains, legumes, fruits and lentils or beans, you have everything your body needs: vitamins, fibers and with lentils or beans also enough proteins. A healthy vegetarian diet together with regular exercise is associated with less obesity, lower blood cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure and resulting from that less heart disease, diabetes, cancer, stroke and finally mortality. It is simple: vegetarians live longer! Nature and Destiny of our Body Our body is not made for eating meat. If you look at the jaw of carnivores, like tigers or dogs, you see that they have teeth for hunting and tearing apart meat and bones. The teeth of herbivores however, such as cows or horses, are made for grinding grains and chewing vegetables. And if you compare our jaw, you will find that it is much more similar to the jaw of horses or cows. Our teeth are just not made for non-vegetarian food. It is not only our teeth but also our intestines which are made for a vegetarian diet. Our intestinal tract is longer than that of carnivores, so that we can digest grains and greens. Carnivores have to pass the raw meat that they eat through their intestines quickly as it has lots of bacteria which can harm the body. Our whole body, our metabolism and the entire system is not made for eating meat. You don’t need to kill to still your hunger! We need to take care of our environment, the people and beings living around us and the generations to come after us. There are many reasons to be vegetarian. One of them is that from the amount of grains that are planted to feed cattle which is only raised for being killed, we could feed millions of starving people on the whole world. These animals are only raised to be killed. As a human person you need to have sensitivity in your heart, a love for each living being. How can you kill an innocent animal just to feed your stomach? They have a right to live just like us. We should take care and protect animals and the environment but what is happening is that we are destroying and exploiting. Do something against it! Becoming vegetarian, choosing not to eat meat but a healthy vegetarian diet is thus not only good for yourself, your health and body but also for your environment. Vegetarian Food is not boring! Delicious Vegetarian Recipes, Vegetarian Cooking Workshops and Retreats You read this whole page, are convinced of everything above but just have one more problem: you think vegetarian food is just boring? That is another common misconception in the West where some people believe; vegetarians just leave away the meat and eat the side-dishes instead. That would be indeed boring. However there is a great range of delicious vegetarian dishes prepared with a variety of vegetables and spices.

It is based on Sun’s movement. One year is equal to the time taken by the Sun to complete 360 on zodiac. Sun moves daily 10. Solar month starts when Sun transits from one sign to another sign. It is called “Sankranti”. The most famous sankranti is “Makar Sankranti” (14th January) and it is celebrated all over India in different form. We use this calendar too for some purposes.

Lunar Calendar - This is the calendar we use in Vedic Astrology. In Lunar calendar day is called “Tithi”. You may understand it as Lunar Day. When a Lunar Month start, Sun and Moon are at the same Longitude. Since Mo is faster so it goes ahead of the Sun. When moon is ahead of Sun by 120 the second tithi starts. It completes one cycle of the Zodiac(3600) in 30 Lunar Days (Not Solar days or the calendar we use) . So it completes 3600 in 30 days hence it moves 120 ahead of Sun and after 30 tithis it will again be at the same longitude so the next Lunar Mont will start. Paksha :- So there are 30 Lunar Days or Tithis in one Lunar Month. There are two fortnight in one lunar month. These are called “Sukla Paksha” ( Brighter fortnight) & “Krishna Paksha” (Darker Fortnight). In Shukla paksha the moon is called waxing moon and in Krishna paksha it is called waning moon.

-His Holiness Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar is the “ Only” Atharva Vedic Scholar in the entire western countries. This is the 4th Veda of Hinduism Atharva Sikha Upanishad (Part of the Atharva Veda) The Atharvasikha Upanishad attempts to answer such questions as how to meditate, what to meditate and on whom meditate, with specific emphasis on the syllable AUM, its meaning and significance. Omkara, the form of AUM, is explained as Brahman Himself, representing the Trinity of Gods, namely Brahma, Vishnu and Siva in the form of the three syllables Aa, Uu and Mm. The Upanishad: Om ! O Devas, may we hear with our ears what is auspicious; May we see with our eyes what is auspicious, O ye worthy of worship! May we enjoy the term of life allotted by the Devas, Praising them with our body and limbs steady ! May the glorious Indra bless us ! May the all-knowing Sun bless us! May Garuda, the thunderbolt for evil, bless us! May Brihaspati grant us well-being! Om ! Let there be Peace in me! Let there be Peace in my environment! Let there be Peace in the forces that act on me ! I meditate on that “ultimate truth”, which explains the meaning “of the sound of Om”, which shines as the fourth leg of Om, which is Thureeya of Thureeyas (A super divine state of oneness with God, which is beyond the three states

of wakefulness, sleep and dream), which enjoys being in three legs (syllables) and which is one and only one. Om Shanti ! Shanti ! Shanti ! Section - 1 1.1 The sages Pippalada, Aangiras and Sanath Kumara approached the great God like sage, Atharva Maharshi and asked him, “Oh, God like sage, what is the chief aspect of meditation? What is the mantra (holy syllable) on which to meditate? Who can meditate? Who is the God of meditation?” 1.2 The sage Atharva replied to them,” Mainly meditation has to be done on the single letter Om. It itself is the mantra for meditation. The four legs of that mantra are the four devas and the four Vedas. The letter has to be recognized as the Para Brahman (Ultimate reality) and meditated upon. 1.3 The first syllable Aa, indicates earth, the Rig Veda along with its holy chants, Brahma the creator, Ashta Vasus among devas, “Gayathry” among meters, and Garhapthya (the fire of the household) among fires. 1.4 The second syllable Uu denotes the ether, the Yajur Veda, Rudra who is the God of destruction, the eleven Rudras among devas, “Trishgup” among meters and dakshinagni (fire of the south - funeral pyre) among the fires. 1.5 The third syllable Ma indicates the heavens, Sama Veda with its musical sounds of Sama, Vishnu who looks after the worlds, the twelve Adithyas (suns) among devas, “jagathichanda” among meters and Ahavagni (the fire used in fire sacrifice) among the fires. 1.6 That half fourth syllable which is the hidden Ma, is the magical chants of Atharva Veda, Samvarthaka (the fire of exchange) fire among fires, marud Ganas among devas. It is the self glittering Brahman which shines alone and sees everything. 1.7 The first is the red Brahma (creative aspect) , the second the holy white Rudra (destructive aspect), the third the black Lord Vishnu (the administrative aspect) and the fourth which is like lightning is the multi coloured Purushothama (best among males). 1.8 This Omkara has four legs and four heads (fires). The fourth is the half syllable sound of “Ma” which is hidden. That is pronounced in a small short form, slightly extended form (pluthyaga) and much extended form. It is pronounced

as Om with one mathra, Om in two mathras and Om in the extended three mathras (mathra is the unit of pronunciation). 1.9. The fourth peaceful half syllable is hidden in the long ended pronunciation. It is the incomparable glitter of the soul. It is that sound which was never there and which will be never there. If not pronounced earlier but pronounced for the first time it, takes one via the Sushumna Nadi to the lotus with thousand petals (Sahasrara). Section - 2 2.1 The pranava (the sound of Om) makes all the souls to bow before it. It is the one and only one which has to be meditated upon as the four Vedas and the birth place of all devas. One who meditates like that goes away from all sorrows and fears and gets the power to protect all others who approach him. It is because of this meditation only that Lord Vishnu who is spread everywhere, wins over all others. It is because Lord Brahma controlled all his organs and meditated upon it, he attained the position of the creator. Even Lord Vishnu , parks his mind in the sound (Om) of the place of Paramathma (ultimate soul) and meditates upon Eeshana, who is most proper to be worshipped. All this is only proper in case of Eeshana. 2.2 Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra and Indra are creating all beings, all organs and all karanas. They are also capable of controlling them. But Lord Shiva exists in between them like sky and is permanently stable. 2.3 It is advised that the five gods Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra, Ishwara and Shiva should be worshipped in the form of pranava [Aa+Uu+Ma+sound+Bindu(full stop)]. 2.4 Even if for one second, if one can stay and meditate on these, he gets more results than that of performing one hundred fire sacrifices. With the full understanding and knowledge, one should only meditate on paramashiva, which would give rise to all benefits. It is definite that, by sacrificing all other things, the twice born, should learn and understand this and he would get rid of the suffering of living in the womb and attain salvation. Om ! O Devas, may we hear with our ears what is auspicious; May we see with our eyes what is auspicious, O ye worthy of worship ! May we enjoy the term of life allotted by the Devas, Praising them with our body and limbs steady ! May the glorious Indra bless us ! May the all-knowing Sun bless us ! May Garuda, the thunderbolt for evil, bless us ! May Brihaspati grant us well-being ! Om ! Let there be Peace in me ! Let there be Peace in my environment ! Let there be Peace in the forces that act on me ! Mantrika Upanishad - Translated by: Dr. A. G. Krishna WarrierPublished by The Theosophical Publishing House, Karma 38

Chennai Om ! That (Brahman) is infinite, and this (universe) is infinite. The infinite proceeds from the infinite. (Then) taking the infinitude of the infinite (universe), It remains as the infinite (Brahman) alone. Om ! Let there be Peace in me ! Let there be Peace in my environment ! Let there be Peace in the forces that act on me ! 1. The eight-footed immaculate Swan, bound with three cords, subtle and imperishable, to whom three ways lead, I see not though I see it everywhere. 2. At the time all living beings are confounded (in the darkness of nescience) when (however) the pile less darkness is shattered (by the sun of saving knowledge). The sages established in Sattva behold the Absolute beyond Gunaa (right) in the sphere of gunas. 3 (a). Contemplated by sages like Kumara, etc.; the Absolute is not otherwise capable of being perceived (at all). 3(b)-4. The agent of superimposition the Unborn (Maya), the nescient eight-fold inveterate mother of modifications; thus it is extended and again prodded. The world under such power and guidance gives rise to the values of man. 5. The Lord’s mighty Maya, having both a beginning and end, the creatrix, brings beings into existence; white, black and red (She) fulfils all desires. 6. (The ignorant) experiences this non-objective Maya (whose real nature is) unknown (even) to sages like Kumara. The Lord alone freely following (Her) enjoys Maya (as Her Lord and Companion). 7. He enjoys (Her) through both contemplation and action. He, the omnipresent one, sustains (Her) who is common to one and all, the yielder (of desired objects) and is enjoyed by the sacrificers. 8. The magnanimous (sages) behold in (the sphere of) Maya the bird eating the fruits (of Karmas). The priests who have completed their Vedic training have declared the Other to be detached. 9. The masters of the Rig-Veda, well-versed in the Shastras repeat what the Yajur-Vedins have declared. The adepts in Sama-Veda singing Brhatsama and Rathantara also (reaffirm this truth). 10. (Vedic) sages like Bhrigu and the Bhargavas – these followers of the Atharva-Veda, practising the Veda, the mantras and the secret doctrines, in the sequence on Words, (all set forth the same doctrine).

11-13. The faithful co-disciple, firm and accomplished, the red Bull, the sacrificial Remainder – as all these, in regard to Its immensity; and as Time, Life, the divine wrath, the Destroyer, the great Lord, the Becoming, Rudra, the Protector of Jivas, the Rewarder of the virtuous, the Lord of living beings, the Virat, the sustainer and the Waters (of life), is the all-Pervader lauded by beings magnified in the mantras and well-known to the Atharva-Veda. 14. Some aver Him (the great Lord) as the twenty sixth (Principle); others as the twenty seventh; the masters of the Atharva-Veda and the Atharva Upanishads know the Spirits beyond qualities, as set forth in the Sankhya. 15. The manifest and the un manifest have been counted (together) as twenty four. (Some) declare Him non-dual; as dual; as three-fold; and similarly as five-fold. 16. Those who see with the eye of wisdom, the twice-born, perceive Him as comprising everything from Brahma to sticks, as one only, pure through and through, all pervading. 17. That in which this might manifold, moving and unmoving, is woven – in that very thing it also merges as the rivers do in the sea. 18. In That in which the objects are dissolved, and, having been dissolved, become unmanifest, once more they attain manifestation; they are again born like bubbles. 19. They come into being by virtue of causes supervised by individual selves that know ‘the field’. Such is the blessed Lord, so others repeatedly, declare. 20. Those Brahmanas who (just) know Brahman – here only they are dissolved; and being dissolved they exist in the Avyakta. Having been dissolved they exist in the Avyakta – this is the secret doctrine. Om ! That (Brahman) is infinite, and this (universe) is infinite. The infinite proceeds from the infinite. (Then) taking the infinitude of the infinite (universe),It remains as the infinite (Brahman) alone. Om ! Let there be Peace in me ! Let there be Peace in my environment! Let there be Peace in the forces that act on me Tara Sara Upanishad - Translated by: Shri.K. Narayanasvami Aiyar Om ! Let there be Peace

in the forces that act on me ! CHAPTER - I 1. Hari Om. Brihaspati asked Yajnavalkya: “That which is called Kurukshetra is the place of the sacrifice of the Devas and the spiritual seat of all beings. Therefore where should one go in order that he may cognise Kurukshetra, the place of the sacrifice of the Devas and the spiritual seat of all beings ?” (To which Yajnavalkya replied): “Avimukta is Kurukshetra, the place of the sacrifice of the Devas and of the study of Brahman, because it is there that Rudra initiates one into the Taraka Brahman when Prana (life) goes out. Through this, one becomes immortal and the enjoyer of Moksha. Therefore one should always be in the midst of that place Avimukta and should never leave, O Reverend Sir, Avimukta.” Thus said Yajnavalkya. 2. Then Bharadvaja asked Yajnavalkya: “What is Taraka ? What is that which causes one to cross (this mundane existence)”. To which Yajnavalkya replied: “Om Namo Narayanaya is the Taraka. It should be worshipped as Chidatma. Om is a single syllable and of the nature of Atman. Namah is of two syllables and is of the nature of Prakriti

(matter). Narayanaya is of five syllables and is of the nature of Parabrahman. He who knows this becomes immortal. Through ‘Om’, is Brahma produced; through ‘Na’ is Vishnu produced; through ‘Ma’ is Rudra produced; through ‘Na’ is Ishvara produced; through ‘Ra’ is the Anda-Virat (or Virat of the universe) produced; through ‘Ya’ is Purusha produced; through ‘Na’ is Bhagavan (Lord) produced; and through ‘Ya’ is Paramatman produced. This Ashtakshara (eight syllables) of Narayana is the supreme and the highest Purusha. Thus is the Rig-Veda with the first foot (or half). CHAPTER - II That which is Om is the indestructible, the supreme and Brahman. That alone should be worshipped. It is this that is of the eight subtle syllables. And this becomes eight, being of eight forms. ‘A’ is the first letter; ‘U’ is the second; ‘M’ is the third; Bindu is the fourth; Nada is the fifth; Kala is the sixth; Kalatita (that beyond Kala) is the seventh; and that which is beyond these is the eighth. It is called Taraka, because it enables one to cross this mundane existence. Know that Taraka alone is Brahman and it alone should be worshipped”. The (following) verses may be quoted here: 1. “From the letter ‘A’ came Brahma named Jambavan (the bear). From the letter ‘U’ came Upendra, named Hari. 2. From the letter ‘M’ came Shiva, known as Hanuman. Bindu is named Ishvara and is Satrughna, the Lord of the discuss itself. 3. Nada should be known as the great Lord named Bharata and the sound of the conch itself. From Kala came the Purusha himself as Lakshmana and the bearer of the earth. 4. Kalatita is known as the goddess Sita Herself. That which is beyond is the Paramatman named Sri Rama and is the highest Purusha. All this is the explanation of the letter Om, which is the past, the present and future and which is other than these (viz.,) Tattva, Mantra, Varna (colour), Devata (deity), Chhandas (metre), Rik, Kala, Sakti and Srishti (creation). He who knows this becomes immortal. (Thus is) Yajur-Veda with the second foot”. CHAPTER - III Then Bharadvaja asked Yajnavalkya: “Through what Mantra is Paramatman pleased and shows his own Atman (to persons) ? Please tell this”. Yajnavalkya replied: 1. Om. He who is Sri-Paramatman, Narayana and the Lord described by (the letter) ‘A’ and is Jambavan (the bear) and Bhuh, Bhuvah and Suvah; Salutation to Him ! Karma 40

2. Om. He who is Sri-Paramatman, Narayana and the Lord described by (the letter) ‘U’ and is Upendra (or) Hari and Bhuh, Bhuvah and Suvah; Salutation to Him ! 3. Om. He who is Sri-Paramatman, Narayana and the Lord described by (the letter) ‘M’ and is of the form of Shiva (or) Hanuman and Bhuh, Bhuvah and Suvah; Salutation to Him ! 4. Om. He who is Sri-Paramatman, Narayana, the Lord of Satrughna of the form of Bindu and the Bhuh, Bhuvah and Suvah; Salutation to Him ! 5. Om. He who is Sri-Paramatman, Narayana and the Lord, and is Bharata of the form of Nada and the Bhuh, Bhuvah and Suvah; Salutation to Him ! 6. Om. He who is Sri-Paramatman, Narayana and the Lord, and is Lakshmana of the form of Kala and the Bhuh, Bhuvah and Suvah; Salutation to Him ! 7. Om. He who is Sri-Paramatman, Narayana and the Lord, and is Kalatita, the Goddess Sita, of the form of Chit and the Bhuh, Bhuvah and Suvah; Salutation to Him! 8. Om. He who is Sri-Paramatman, Narayana and the Lord that is beyond that (Kalatita), is the supreme Purusha and is the ancient Purushottama, the eternal, the immaculate, the enlightened, the emancipated, the true, the highest bliss, the endless, the secondless and the all-full – that Brahman is myself. I am Rama and the Bhuh, Bhuvah and Suvah; Salutation to Him ! He who has mastered this eightfold Mantra is purified by Agni; he is purified by Vayu; he is purified by the sun; he is purified by Shiva; he is known by all the Devas. He attains the fruit of reciting Itihasas, Puranas, Rudra (Mantras), a hundred thousand times. He who repeatedly remembers (or recites) the Ashtakshara (the eight-syllabled Mantra) of Narayana gains the fruit of the recitation of Gayatri a hundred thousand times or of Pranava (Om) a myriad of times. He purifies (his ancestors) ten (degrees) above and (his descendants) ten (degrees) below. He attains the state of Narayana. He who knows this (attains) the state of Narayana). Like the eye (which sees without any obstacle) the things spread (in the sky), the wise ever see this supreme seat of Vishnu. Brahmanas who are spiritually awake praise in diverse ways and illuminate the supreme abode of Vishnu. Thus is the Upanishad. (Thus is) the Sama-Veda with the third foot. Hari Om Tat Sat ! Om ! That (Brahman) is infinite, and this (universe) is infinite. The infinite proceeds from the infinite.(Then) taking the infinitude of the infinite (universe),It remains as the infinite (Brahman) alone. Om ! Let there be Peace in me ! Let there be Peace in my environment ! Let there be Peace in the forces that act on me !

he following slogam explains the twelve points in India where the Jyotir Lingams are situated

Saurashtre Somanaatham Cha Sree Saile Mallikarjunam Ujjayinyaam Mahaakaalam Omkaare Mamaleswaram Himalaye to Kedaram Daakinyaam Bhimashankaram Vaaranaasyaam cha Viswesam Trayambakam Gowtameethate Paralyaam Vaidyanaatham cha Naagesam Daarukaavane Setubandhe Ramesham Grushnesam cha Shivaalaye || Rameshwaram - the southernmost of the Jyotirlingas Rameshwaram is an island situated in the gulf of manner at the very tip of the Indian peninsula. A very important pilgrim centre of the Indians. Rameshwaram is the place from where Lord Rama, built a bridge across the sea to rescue his consort Sita, from her abductor, Ravana. This is also the place where Rama worshipped Lord Shiva to cleanse away the sin of killing Ravana. Both the Vaishnavites and Shaivites visit this pilgrimage which is known as the Varanasi the south. Ramnathswamy temple was built in the 17th century. Situated close to the sea on the eastern side of the island, this temple is famous for its 1200 gigantic granite columns. The 54 metre tall gopuram (gate-tower), 1220 metres of magnificent corridors and the flamboyant columns embellish and render fame to the temple. The water in each of the 22 sacred wells in the temple tastes different.100 metres away from the temple is Agnitheertham, where Rama worshipped Lord Shiva, to absolve himself from the killing Ravana. Gandamadana Parvatham: The imprint of Lord Rama’s feet placed on a Chakra (wheel) is found in this shrine which is at the highest point on the island at 2 km from Rameswaram. Dhanushkodi named after Rama’s bow, is at the eastern end of the island at a distance of 8 kms from Rameshwaram. The boulders around the sea between Srilanka and this place known as Adam’s bridge, are believed to be used by Hanuman to reach across Srilanka. Dhhanushkodi was completely destroyed by the cyclones of 1964. Kothandaramaswamy temple is the only salvage of the cyclone. Idols of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, Hanuman and Vibhishana (brother of Ravana), surrendered to Rama, here. Srisailam Srisailam - also one of the 52 Shakthi Peethams - where Sivananda Lahari was sung Sree Sailam near Kurnool enshrines Mallikarjuna in an ancient temple rich in architectural and sculptural wealth. Adi

Sankaracharya composed his Sivanandalahiri here. Located admist the Nallamalai forests on a height of 457 mt on the southern banks of river Krishna in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh is Srisailam also known as Sriparvata, home of the ‘Chechu’ tribes. Srisailam boasts of India’s largest tiger reserve, home to tigers, leopards, pangolins, panthers and around 200 species of birds and is spread over an area of 3,560 sq. kms. The temple situated here is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is among the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. The temple sculptures narrate in stone, epics from thre great Hindu epics-Ramayana nand Mahabharata. Srisailam is well connected by APSRTC bus services. The nearest railway station to Srisailam is Markapur Road.Sri Sailam Devasthanam provides accommodation for their pilgrims at their cottages and choultries. The Andhra Pradesh Travel & Tourism Development Corporation Operates package tours from Hyderabad to Srisailam every week. The tour begins at 11:30 A.M on Saturdays and ends at 09:00 P.M on Sundays. The tour cost is Rs.145/- for Adult and Rs.80/- for Child, which excludes accommodation charges. Accommodation can be arranged on prior notice at tourist cost. Srisailam Tour Department organises tours on Saturdays. It leaves Hyderabad at 1130 hrs and arrives on Sunday at 2100 hrs. much steeper and climbs straight out to Koli village. This place is at a distance of 265 kilometres from Mumbai via Pune by road. The nearest airport is the Pune Airport which is at a distance of 95 kilometres from Bhimashankar. The nearest rail route is from Pune too. Bhimashankar is situated around 260 kms and 7 hours drive from Mumbai. You could drive upto Bhivandi along MumbaiAgra (Highway No.3), and then via Kalyan to Murbad. You have to take the road that goes to Wada to reach Bhimashankar.

Bhimashankar Bhimashankar - the birth place of the river Bhima Situated on a high peak, surrounded by thick dense forests, is a major pilgrim centre called Bhimashankar. The place has got its name because of the origin of Bhima, a prominent river in Maharashtra. Near the origin of the river, Bhimashankar houses one of the five ‘Jyotirlinga’ of Maharashtra. The annual Mahashivaratri fair is held in Bhimashankar in February-March and attracts upto 25,000 pilgrims. Countless devotees from all over Maharashtra and from places outside the state, flock near the temple during ‘Tripuri Poornima’. Bhimashankar is more popular as a tourist place than a religious one due to its extravagant beauty and breathtaking scenery. This place is situated at a height of approximately 3250 feet resulting in chilly weather. Being at the edge of the mountain range, the place gives a clear view of the surrounding areas. The thick and dense forests are a major attraction for trekkers and mountaineers as well as tourists. The ‘Shani temple’ is located inside the main complex of the temple of Bhimashankar. Between the two pillars outside the ‘Shani’ temple, one comes across an ancient huge Portuguese bell. Behind the temple, there is a small pathway that leads us to the banks of a river. The dense forest of the Bhimashankar Wild Life Sanctuary, plays abode to most of the flora and fauna. To name a few, there are boars, sambars, hyenas, porcupines and even the leopards. The plant life includes anything and everything from mangoes to spices. After a short climb to the west of the temple, one comes across a peak termed the ‘Nagfani’. The height of all these peaks is approximately 2750 feet above sea level. The peaks reveal a beautiful picture of all the forts and hill-stations like Matheran and even small lakes. Two routes lead to Bhimashankar from Khandas that meet at a plateau. The Koli village is situated on the plateau. The route to Bhimashankar begins from this village. One comes across the Pune-Bhimashankar road nearby. The first route is the tar route of a distance of 2 kilometres. This route though longer, is less difficult than the second one. The second route is shorter but Karma 44

The route takes you through the fast moving highway traffic where you need to be extra careful while driving. The forest road has lesser traffic and driving along this road is an experience to cherish. Grishneshwar - near Ellora Grishneshwar also known as Ghushmeshwar is another site revered as the abode of one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Shiva. It is located at a distance of 11 km from Daulatabad near Aurangabad in Maharashtra. The temple was constructed by Ahilyabhai Holkar who also re-constructed the Kasi Viswanatha temple at Benares and the Vishnu Paada temple at Gaya. There has to be legend associated with every temple. This one too is no exception. There was once a devout woman Kusuma who was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and she regularly immersed a Shivalingam in a tank, as a part of her daily ritual worship. Her husband’s first wife, envious of her piety and standing in society murdered Kusuma’s son in cold blood. An aggrieved Kusuma continued her ritual worship, and when she immersed the Shivalingam again in the tank, her son was miraculously restored to life. Shiva is said to have appeared in front of her and the villagers, and ever since then the shivalingam here has been worshipped in the form of a Jyotirlinga Ghusmeshwar. Tryambakeshwar Tryambakeshwar - the birth place of river Godavari Tryambakeshwar, 30 km from Nasik in Maharashtra is revered as one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva. It is here that the river Godavari is born. This is an ancient shrine, but what you see today is thanks to the reconstruction efforts undertaken by the Peshwa Balaji Bajirao in mid 18th century. The other Jyotirlinga shrines in Maharashtra are Bhimashankar and Grishneshwar. Legend has it that sage Gowtama resided on the Brahmagiri hill here with his wife Ahalya, and seeing his unflinching devotion received a boon from Varuna - a bottomless pit from which he received an inexhaustible supply of foodgrains. This of course enraged other sages who conspired for a cow to enter his granary, and caused it to die as Gowtama attempted to ward it off with a bunch of Darbha grass. Because of this misfortune Gowtama therefore worshipped Shiva, to invoke the Goddess Ganga down to his hermitage to purify the premises. Ganga came down as Godavari, and Shiva took up an abode here in the form of Tryambaka. Interestingly, locals refer to the river here as Ganga and not as Godavari.

Legend has it that Brahma and Vishnu searched in vain to discover the origin of Shiva who manifested himself as a cosmic column of fire. Brahma lied that he had seen the top of the column of fire, and was hence cursed that he would not be worshipped on earth. In turn Brahma cursed Shiva that he would be pushed underground. Accordingly, Shiva came down under the Brahmagiri hill in the form of Tryambakeshwar. The shrine enjoyed the patronage of the Peshwas. The Nagara style of architecture is what typifies this temple made of black stone. It is enclosed in a spacious courtyard and the sanctum (internally a square and externally a stellar structure) houses a small Shivalingam - Tryambaka. The sanctum is crowned with a graceful tower ,a giant amalaka and a golden kalasha. In front of the garbagriha and the antarala is a mandap with doors on all four sides. Three out of the four doorways are covered with porches, and the openings of these porches are ornamented with pillars and arches. The roof of the mandapam is formed by curvilinear slabs rising in steps. The entire structure is ornamented with sculptural work featuring running scrolls, floral designs, figures of gods, yakshas, humans and animals. The Shivalingam is seen in a depression on the floor of the sanctum with water constantly oozing out from the top of the Shivalingam. Usually, the Shivalingam is covered with a silver mask, and on festive occasions with a golden mask with five faces, each with a golden crown. The silver mask is equivalent to the processional images seen in South Indian temples. Kolhambika is a temple dedicated to Parvati, where she is believed to have slain the demon Kolhasura who had swallowed the Ganga river. Also here is the Ganga Devi temple enshrining a white marble image of Ganga. This temple was built in 1879. Other shrines here include those to Kedarnath, Rameshwar, Gowtameshwar, Kashi Vishwanath, Jareshwar, Kanchaneshwar, Tribhuvaneshwar, Rama, Parasurama, Krishna, Balaji, Lakshmi Narayan and Hanuman. Three worship services are carried out each day. During the night worship service sheja-aarti is carried out and the silver mask is placed in a bed in the hall of mirrors. Each Monday, the silver mask of Tryambaka is placed in a palanquin and taken in procession to Kushavarta theertha and given an abhisheka there. This procession with the special golden mask, happens also on Shiv ratris, full moon day in the month of Kartika and during other festive occasions. Somnath Somnath - the first and foremost of the Jyotirlingas Somnath is the foremost of the 12 Jyotirlinga Shrines of Shiva, held in reverence throughout India imbued with legend, traditions and history. It is located at Prabhas Patan in Saurashtra in Gujarat. It is a pilgrimage centre held in great reverence throughout India. Situated 79 kilometres from Junagadh and 25 kilometres from Chorwad, the legendary shore temple of Somnath is one of

the twelve most sacred Shiva shrines in India. According to the legend, Somnath is as old as creation, built by none other than the Moon God himself. It is believed that he had built this temple with gold. Later it was built by Ravana in silver, then Lord Krishna in wood and Bhima in stone. Legend has it that the Kalabhairava shivalinga at Prabhasa was worshipped by the moon and hence, the Lord is called as Somnatha. The Somnath temple also houses the remains of the ancient Sun temple. Towards the east of the town is the Bhalka Teertha. This is where, Lord Krishna is believed to have been injured by a tribal arrow. Somnath was destroyed and rebuilt several times. Mehmud of Gazni having heard of its fabulous treasure, raided it in 1026 and carried away camel loads of jewels and gold. Lunch is available here in the simple dining hall in the temple compound, north of the main gate. One cannot get the cameras inside. The temple is located by the beautiful blue waters of the Arabian Sea. The Somnathbeach is a fascinating sight. The fresh blue waters, humming waves and the cool sands, gives you a feeling of having landed in a paradise. Nearby is the Prabhas Patan Museum, which houses the 11th century version of the Somnath temple with 5 domes and many pillars. Somath is located at a distance of 47 KMs from Keshod, an airport connected with Mumbai, and is about 5 KMs from Veraval Railway Station. Dwarka Nageshwar - at Dwarka Nageshwar is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga Shrines of Shiva. It is located between Dwarka and the Bet Dwarka island, on the coast of Saurashtra in Gujarat. Legend has it that once while rowing a boat, a devotee by the name of Supriya, was attacked by a demon Daaruka, and imprisoned him along with several others at his capital Daarukaavana, where he resided with his wife Daaruki. Once again, Lord Shiva appeared in the form of a Jyotirlingam and vanquished the demon with the Paasupata Astram. Two other sites in India, one near Audhgram near Purna in Andhra Pradesh and another near Almora in Uttar Pradesh also enshrine temples to Nageswara Jyotirlingam. Omkareshwar Omkareshwar & Amareshwar Omkareshwar an island in the course of the river Narmada in Madhya Pradesh is home to the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga shrine and the Amareshwar temple. Omkareshwar located in Madhya Pradesh, on the Mandhata hill on the banks of the Narmada is one of the 12 revered Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva. It is located at a distance of about 12 miles from Mortakka. The river Narmada branches into two and forms an island Mandhata or Shivapuri in the center. The shape of the island resembles that of the visual representation of the Omkara

sound, Om. There are two temples here, one to Omkareshwar and one to Amareshwar. Legend has it that the mountain called Vindhya once prayed to Lord Shiva - Omkareshwara and was blessed here. Legend also has it that upon the request of the Devas, the Shivalinga split into two, one half being Omkareshwara and the other Amaleshwara or Amareshwar. The temple can be reached by ferry from the banks of the river. The Omkareshwar temple built in the Nagara style is characterized by a lofty shikhara. There are also shrines to Annapurna and Ganesha here. Ujjain Mahakaleshwar at Ujjain Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga’s shrine in Ujjain is an ancient and historic and was also called Avanti in Madhya Pradesh. Ujjain, a historic capital of Central India in Madhya Pradesh is a venerated pilgrimage centre enshrining Mahakaleshwara, one of the Jyotirlinga manifestations of Shiva. It was Ujjain that played a prominent role during the reign of the Mauryas and the Guptas and it was at Avanti the capital of Ujjain that Kind Udayana married princess Vasavadatta. In fact the Skanda Purana describes the glory of Ujjain (Mahakaala Vana) in great detail. During King Vikramaditya Chandragupta, one of the Gupta kings’ reign the nine gems viz.,Dhanvantari, Kshapanaka, Amarasimha, Sanku, Vetala Bhatta, Ghatakharpara, Varahamihira, Vararuchi and Kalidasa) adorned his court. Ayodhya, Mathura, Haridwar, Benares, Kanchipuram, Dwarka and Ujjain are considered to be the 7 Mukti Stalas of India. Ujjain is home to the Kumbha Mela, when Jupiter resides in the zodiac sign of Scorpio. The Mahakaleshwar temple at Ujjain has five levels one of which is undergound. The temple itself is located in a spacious courtyard surrounded by massive walls near a lake. The shikhara or the spire is adorned with sculptural finery. Brass lamps light the way to the underground sanctum. It is believed that prasada (holy offering) offered here to the deity can be re-offered unlike all other shrines. Legend has it that a demon by the name of Dushana tormented the residents of Avanti and that Shiva appeared from the ground and vanquished the demon, and then upon the request of the inhabitants of Avanti, took up permanent abode here as Mahakaleshwara Jyotirlinga. The temple to Parvati - Harasiddhi Devi temple is also located at Ujjain. Vaidhyanath Vaidhyanath - a.k.a. - Baijnath The ancient pilgrimage town of Deogarh in the Santal Parganas area of Bihar is revered as one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Shiva. This shrine located at Deogarh in the Santal Parganas region of Bihar represents one of the 12 Jyotirlingams of Shiva held in reverence throughout the country. Deogarh is also known Karma 46

as Vaidyanath, Haritaki Vana, Ketaki Vana, Ravana Vana, Chitabhoomi and Hardapeetha. Some schools of thought believe Vaidyanath near Parali in Andhra Pradesh to be the Vaidyanatha Jyotirlingam. Some others believe that Kiragram in Punjab and Dabhoi in Gujarat are the Vaidyanatha Jyotirlinga temples. The legend of Vaidyanathan goes something like this. The demon lord from the Ramayan, the devout Ravana meditated hard in order to invoke Lord Shiva, andrequested him to come over to Sri Lanka, in order that his capital may become invincible. It is said that he attempted to lift the holy mountain, Lord Shiva’s abode, Mount Kailash and take it with him to his capital; however Shiva crushed him with his finger, and Ravana prayed to him and sought his mercy, after which Shiva gave him one of the twelve Jyotirlingams with the condition that if it was placed on the ground it would take root immediately and hence Ravana had to carry it back on his trek to his capital. Varuna the God of water, entered Ravana’s belly, and caused him to feel the need to relieve himself. Vishnu then came down in the form of a lad and volunteered to hold the Jyotirlingam as he relieved himself. But before Ravana could return, the young lad placed the jyotirlingam on the ground to which it became rooted. A disappointed Ravana offered severe penances to Shiva here, and cut off nine of his heads as a part of his repentance. Shiva revived him and joined the heads to the body, like a Vaidya or aphysician, hence this Jyotirlingam goes by the name Vaidyanath. The same legend holds at Gokarnam in Karnataka. Another legend has it that this temple was re-discovered by a cowherd Baiju, and hence the name Baijnath. Vaidyanath is also considered to be one of the 52 Shakti Pitha shrines of Sati. It is believed that the heart of Sati fell here, when her half burnt body being carried by Shiva at the end of Daksha’s yagna, was chopped to pieces by Vishnu’s discus. The temple of Vaidyanath is situated in a spacious courtyard bounded by stone walls. In the temple complex are twenty two other temples. The Baijnath or Vaidyanath temple faces east. The top of the Shiva Lingam is slightly broken, which is in keeping with the legend that it go chipped when Ravana tried to uproot it. Near the temple is the Sivaganga lake. The Chandrakoopa well, near the main entrance is said to have been built and consecrated with water from several thirthams (thirthams meaning holy waters) by Ravana. Varanasi Varanasi - a.k.a. - Benares The Vishwanath temple in Benares in Uttar Pradesh is the destination of thousands of pilgrims that visit this ancient city. Probably the most famous site not just in India, but the world over, the Vishwanath shrine is revered as one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva. Varanasi - Benares - Kaasi is considered to be the holiest of all pilgrimage sites in India and in fact people from all over the

world come here to pay obeisance. The name Varanasi is derived from the names of two rivers, Varana and As and this holy place is considered home to Shiva - Visweswara. Benares is also known as Kaasi because it is believed that Supreme brilliance shines there, and lights the way to salvation (Kas - to shine). This place is supposed to be God’s favourite place and hence the name Anandakanana but it is also known as Mahamasaanam where the five elements lie in this great cremation ground as will all dead bodies at the time of the final deluge. This temple was desecrated and rebuilt several times. The latest structure datingback to the 18th century (thanks to the efforts of Rani Ahilyabhai Holkar who incidentally was also responsible for the building of the Grishneshwar temple in Aurangabad) is the main centre of attention for the millions of pilgrims who converge here, to perform an abhishekam to the sacred Jyotirlingam, with water from the Ganges. Benares is also considered to be one of the Shakti Peethas of India. It is believed that the left hand of Sati fell at Varanasi, and that Annapurna or Visalakshi represent the Shakti Peetham here. Apart from these temples, there are five other sacred spots in Benares. The Asi-Ganga sangamam a temple to the Sun God, a shrine to Kesava, the Panchaganga Ghat housing a temple to Bindu - Madhava (where it is believed that five rivers Kirana, Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati and Dhuta-papa converge) and the Dasaswamedha Ghat where it is believed that the ancient kings performed the aswamedha sacrifice ten times and took a dip in the Ganga. The last of the sacred spots is the Manikarnika Ghat. It is believed that when Shiva shook his head and his jeweled earring fell into the pit that Vishnu had dug the name Manikarnika came into being. Tradition has it that those that die at Benares and get cremated at the Manikarnika ghat, get liberated from the cycle of life and death. Mention must be made of the modern shrine to Kaasi Viswanatha elsewhere in the city. Shivaratri in the month of Aquarius is a season of great festivity at Benares. Kedarnath Kedarnath - the northernmost of the Jyotirlingas Kedarnath, nestled in the snow clad Himalayas is an ancient shrine rich in legend and tradition. It is accessible only on foot, six months in a year. One of the most important temples in the Himalayas, Kedarnath is amongst the major Shiva temples of the country. Kedarnath is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, and one of the Panch Kedars and is located at the source of the river Mandakini. According to mythology the deity of Kedarnath temple is identified with the rump of a bull, a form assumed by Lord Shiva, when eluding the Pandavas, who had come to repent for killing their kith and kin, during the battle of Kurukshetra . When the Pandavas followed him to the site, he dived into the ground leaving behind him a hump on the surface. This conical projection is worshipped as the idol in the temple. The remaining parts of the body are worshipped at four other sites - the arms (Bahu) at Tungnath, mouth (mukh) at Rudranath,

navel (nabhi) at Madmaheshwar and hair (jata) at Kalpeshwar. These five shrines collectively are known as the Panch Kedar. The Pandavas are given credit for building the temple of Kedarnath. The statue of Nandi, the divine bull of Shiva, stands at the entrance of the temple. The wall inside the temple, is exquisitely carved with images, and the temple houses a shiva lingam, which is worshipped by hordes of pilgrims. What is truly unique about the lingam is that it is pyramidal. As winter dawns in the month of November, the holy statue of Lord Shiva, is carried down from Garhwal (Kedarkhand) to Ukhnimath, and is reinstated at Kedarnath, in the first week of May. It is at this time, that the doors of the temple are thrown opento pilgrims, who flock from all parts of India, for a holy pilgrimage. Kedarnath is situated in very scenic locales and is enveloped by lofty, snow-covered mountains and grassy meadows covering the valleys. The Kedar dome peak, which can be seen from great distance, is located immediately behind the temple. The sight of the temple and it’s perpetually snowed landscape will take your breath away. Kedarnath is situated at a distance of 234 Kms from Rishikesh and 251 Kms from Dehradun. Best season is from May to October except Monsoon. Heavy Woollen Clothes would be required if travel is undertaken in winter (September – November)

There are 12 Jyothirlingams” only” in India and the 13th one was initiated and founded with Atharva Vedic Agama in USA by a Living Siddhar known as Swamij Sri Selvam Sidhar in Baytown, Texas, USA

Abithana Chintamani states Siddhars are either of the 9 or 18 persons enlisted, but sage Agastyar states that there are many who precede these and follow 9 or 18 persons. Many of the great Siddhars are regarded to have powers magical and spiritual. His Holiness Param Pujya Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar is the “only” living Siddhar in the entire western countries who is considered to be a living God to his followers who is living in USA

This the 13th Jyothirlingam in the world and also the biggest Shiv linga in the entire USA and Canada About Siddhars: Siddhars (Tamil: சித்தர்) are saints in India, mostly of the Saivaite denomination in Tamil Nadu, who professed and practiced an unorthodox type of Sadhana, or spiritual practice, to attain liberation. Yogic powers called Siddhis are acquired by constant practice of certain yogic disciplines. Those who acquire these Siddhis are called Siddhas. [1] These sidhars can be compared to Mystics of the western civilization. Siddhars are people who are believed to control and transcend the barriers of time and space by meditation (Yoga), after the use of substances called Rasayanas that transform the body to make it potentially deathless, and a particular breathing-practice, a type of Pranayama. Through their practices they are believed to have reached stages of insight which enabled them to tune into the powers hidden in various material substances and practices, useful for suffering and ignorant mankind. Typically Siddhars were saints, doctors, alchemists and mysticists all at once. They wrote their findings, in the form of poems in Tamil language, on palm leaves which are collected and stored in what are known today as Palm leaf manuscript, today still owned by private families in Tamil Nadu and handed down through the generations, as well as public institutions such as Universities all over the world (India, Germany, Great Britain, U.S.A.). [2] In this way Siddhars developed, among other branches of a vast knowledge-system, what is now known as Siddha medicine, practised mainly in Tamil Nadu as Traditional native medicine. Experienced elderly in the villages of Tamil Nadu has since practised a rustic form of healing that is similar to Siddha medicine. (This has been misunderstood as Paatti Vaitthiyam, Naattu marunthu and Mooligai marutthuvam. While paati vaitthiyam or naatu marunthu is traditional Tamil medicine and mooligai marutthuvam is ayurvedic medicine.) They are also founders of Varmam - a martial art for self-defence and medical treatment at the same time. Varmam are specific points located in the human body which when pressed in different ways can give various results, such as disabling an attacker in self-defence, or balancing a physical condition as an easy first-aid medical treatment. Tamil Siddhars were the first to develop pulse-reading (“naadi paarththal” in Tamil) to identify the origin of diseases. This method was later copied and used in ayurvedha. [3] Siddhars have also written many religious poems. It is believed that most of them have lived for ages, in a mystic mountain called Sathuragiri, near Thanipparai village in Tamil Nadu. One of the best-known Siddhars was Agasthyar or Agasthya, Karma 48

happens in your life you would not divorce this boy”. She gave a promise to her father that she would not divorce him at any cost. Her marriage was an abusive affair From the date of marriage, her husband had been physically abusing her. It was a total harassment. She got two children through him and they are well placed now. Because she gave a promise to her father, she did not divorce her husband. All along she had been cursing her father for the same reasons. She said, “I am a free bird now after my husband’s death. I can neither forgive my husband nor my father”. Positives in the sufferings I asked her, “In spite of all these bad events there must be at least one positive event in your life. Only for that purpose you have suffered in your life”.She is a staunch devotee of Puttaparthi Sai Baba. When her marriage failed, she wanted a spiritual asylum. Therefore, she went to Baba. She composed and sang many songs on gods like Devi, She had a great spiritual progress. Throughout the day, she was singing only Bhajans. Her life was totally changed to spirituality and she lived a life of an ascetic. I asked her, “Is this not a positive point? I think only for this aspect your husband behaved like that. If the suffering was not there then you would have lived an ordinary life. We say, Atmavan Bhava, which means ‘I am not the doer’. Like that your husband is also not the doer. When we say we are not the doers, the opposite person is also not the doer”.When she understood that Divine is the doer, automatically she started forgiving and she is free from her knee pain now.

-His Holiness Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar Never Divorce Your Husband One 75 years old lady came to see me. She had a right knee problem. Never can I thank my father I asked her, “How is the relationship with your father?” She said, “Fine. We had a very cordial relationship” “There is no thanks in your heart for him. Can you thank him? Think about all that he had done to you. Thank him for the same”. She became silent and curtly went off. After about one week, she phoned up to me. “As I came with my son-in-law last time, I could not tell you anything in front of him. To tell the truth, I am not able to thank my father”.A promise that resulted in suffering “Why”. “Only because of him I suffered all my life”.Her father showed her a boy when she was to be married and told her that she had to marry him. She agreed to her father. On the date of marriage he came and asked her, “Give me a promise. Whatever

Meet your commitments to your body What should you eat and what you should not eat. Make a list and follow that to the core. Sometimes body does not accept certain types of food. Yet, we try to eat the same food again and again. Instead you have to prepare a list of items which you can eat and list out all those which your body does not accept. When you prepare the list you are giving a commitment to your body and you need to follow that. Another thing is that whatever ways you behave outside we behave in the same manner with the body too. “I should not say this because the other person will be wounded”. Thinking like this, to please him, we tell a lie. When you can’t meet a commitment, don’t make one. Suppose someone invites us for wedding. To please him we say that we will come definitely. But, we do not go to the wedding at all. I have also committed such mistakes. Later on I found out that when I say something it is not a commitment to that person but it is a commitment to the God. I questioned myself, “Am I cheating the universe”? Then I decided to tell the truth. If I am able to go I will say yes. Otherwise, I will say that I will not be able to make it.Like that if you tell me that you are meeting me next week then it means that you are not making a commitment to me but you are committing to the Universe.

Commitment to our body If one food is not being accepted by the body, we tell that I should not eat this food again. This is a commitment that you are giving to the Universe. Next time when we eat that food again then we are breaking our own commitment. The Universe is always watching all of us because it is the web of life. If I have to get my food at 1 p.m., it is already decided that it will come from a particular person. By restraining yourself by not eating certain food, you are honoring your own body. Resolving Conflict with Your Spouse I’m Ms Reena and I am writing this for the benefit of all who follow or about to enter the world of switch words…. I and my husband had a bad argument just yesterday and we parted ways with ego, none wanting to say sorry or accept our faults. It was bitter and hurtful. I’m sure it is same for him as well! Soon after he left home, I simply started chanting TOGETHER DIVINE for my peace of mind, nothing else occurred to me at that point of time….. By afternoon, I just picked up my phone, called up my hubby and pleaded sorry and suggested to make up. Divinity has its ways. We both apologized to each other and made up. It was totally not expected because our fight and arguments were severe. It amazes me how chanting Together Divine changed my mind and his too!!! I still can’t believe that this could happen within hours of chanting. We had a wonderful evening hence… It’s amazing how powerful these words can be…….!!!! What made me call my hubby up despite my ego, what changed or directed my mind towards my highest good……it’s magical….TOGETHER DIVINE…..? Thank you Swamiji!!! There is always a conflict between the separated self (our ego self) and the evolving self (original self). This original self always wants to give love to evolve. For the evolving self, there are only two states – forgiveness to love, and gratitude. For the ego self, its own survival is important. In other words the ego can survive if only it projects anger, vengeance and what not. That is why it will not allow the evolving self to operate. Switch words bypass the ego self and activate the evolving self. Why does it not happen always? It is because of the resistance of the concerned person to accept everyone as he is. Rule your MIND! Rule your LIFE!! Your child is not studying Letting go proves to be very difficult for the mother. Between feelings/emotions and action there is no gap. So she gets angry and scolds him. Then she will feel guilty and pamper him to appease him. During this process, the purpose of the son to study has been lost. Karma 50

How to manage such a situation? Whenever any emotion arises, ask the questions: ·What are the thoughts? What is the emotion behind the thought(s)? I accept this thought Can I release it? By asking questions, you are creating a gap between thoughts and actions. Will he study if I release the thought? He has not studied so far anyway. Try this technique, release your anger and do the action. Then see the results for yourself whether he studies or not. ·Why there are communication barriers between mother and son? Emotions block the communication. What is the communication required here? He has to listen to us for him to study. There can be three types of desires here. Desire to control or change the person He has to study very hard. He has to become an Engineer and so on. A framework is present here: ·Release the thought one after another. Do I want to change this person/child? If I say yes, can I release my desire to control the person? We are only releasing the desire, and we are not releasing the action here. I release my desire to control the person. Only then your anger will go. · Desire for more security – feeling of insecurity Is there is any desire to feel more secure? Only if he studies well he will do well and then I will become free. Where there is fear there is no presence of Divinity. Only Satan is present. I release my fear. These desires are born with ego. Desire for approval Others should recognize my son’s talent. Others should appreciate us (by appreciating my son’s excellence in his studies). People have to complement us (how well you have brought him up). Another example where a husband desires his wife should treat him properly when he comes home from office. Release that desire. What if she appreciates you or not? You let go the craving for recognition. More and more you should indulge in releasing thoughts, like a game. Rule your mind instead of mind ruling you Now mind is managing your life. Instead, manage it yourself. Then you do not need a teacher. You do not need anybody. Therefore, just let go all the thoughts. What this technique can do ·Achieving your goals. We are not saying no for achievement. We are only entitled for action and not fruits for the action. Keep saying release and go beyond likes and dislikes. Decisionmaking. Breaking bad habits Better Health and Wealth Good Relationships Build better parent and children relationships In your career you will be able to do wonders In entire life, you can let go and release. Everything will happen without your intervention. The need for Letting GO

Karma 51

Letting go the thoughts How can we do it that? How thoughts can be let off? There will be resistance inside the mind to do so, as it does not want us to move forward spiritually in life. Letting go seen inside our body Is this letting go is something new that we have never seen? If you watch your body, it is letting go. However, mind does not do that. Let say you like eating Jangri (Indian sweet). Can you keep it in the mouth for long? It has to be released to the stomach. After digestion, if the stomach does not release it, then you have to go to hospital. Nature of the mouth is to let go. Stomach has to let go to intestines. If intestines refuse to let go, imagine what will happen to us. Here cooperation among body organs is a must. Jangri takes different forms in the end, losing its original form after digestion, absorption and elimination operations of the digestive tract. Skin let go by sweating. Lungs exhales carbon dioxide. If heart stops circulating blood one-tenth of a second, then you will die. It does letting in and letting out blood. Letting go action in nature Morning has to go for noon to come and afternoon goes for evening to come. Letting go happens in a circular manner. Similarly, sun goes, and Moon comes. Letting go is the process of nature. However, for mind it’s not possible. It does opposite of it, by holding on to things. Holding on is the nature of the mind Mind is the enemy to Body and Soul. When you hold on to a thought, it means there is stagnation. Then you will have less of Prana (energy). Mind is always stagnated. Letting GO in Action How to bring the mind to do letting go? Let us say, you are angry. Then affirm, “I am not the mind. I feel angry.” Here you have changed “I am angry” to “I feel angry”. If you are happy then affirm, “I feel happy”, and so on. Prepare a checklist of emotions List the emotions you are feeling currently. Irrespective of whether they are positive or negative, release them. Let us see an example Somebody cheats you. How you let go the emotions attached with this incident? List the emotions first. For example: Let him go to hell .He is not fair. How can he do this to me, when I have done so much to him? (One thought will generate another thought) Take the first one “Let him to hell”. Affirm, “I accept this thought.” I ask the mind, “Can I release it?” If it says no, then I question back the mind, “When can I release it?” If it keeps quiet, then I ask the mind, “Can I release at least 10% of the thought?” If it says yes, then I release the Karma 52

10%. It is just a mind game. Playing games with mind like this will confuse it. A confused mind cannot have any impact on your actions. Failed to change my child’s behavior You want to control your child’s behavior. Instead of studying, he is watching the TV all the time. ·First say, “I release my desire to control him”. Then advise him. Why? If you tell him anything with judgment, then he will never listen to you for sure. How do we control our children? They have to be punctual, eat healthy, study well etc. Thus, we control all their activities because we think they are to be corrected. We don’t allow them to grow in their own way. ·What will happen if we don’t tell them so? If I don’t tell him then he won’t go to school. ·There is a fear he won’t go to school. So I release the fear that he won’t go to school. ·What will happen if he doesn’t go to school? Nothing will happen. I have a responsibility as a mother. Other people should say that my child is a good child. Say, “I release my desire for approval”. ·In addition, say, “I release my desire to control him”. Release all the desires and then discipline him. ·There are three basic desires that are operating within us – desire to control, desire to get approval and desire for security. Even if I wake him up, he doesn’t get up. How do you exercise your control with him? By getting angry with him, you are exercising your control over him. ·Release that. ·What’s that you don’t like about him? You dislike him because he is getting up late. ·Release your dislikes about him. He doesn’t behave as per my expectations. If he gets up on time then he will be no 1 student ·This is your expectation. ·Release all your expectations about him and then you discipline him ·Each and every matter you need to analyze like this and then take your actions. like stuck. We would like to move out to another city to get more opportunities but it has been difficult to get a job. We just want a fresh start as well as job opportunities so that we can move out. - Ms. Kanaka Subramanium, Houston, Texas, USA Be in the following Mudra for 30 minutes: Thumb touching the index finger (both hands) and the rest of the fingers at the base of the thumb. Chant “THANKS CHANGE DIVINE ORDER COUNT NOW DONE” while doing the Mudra. Explanation Mudra: The index finger induces new thoughts. It will be from a higher perspective, which was created by placing the other three fingers at the base of thumb.

In one of your previous lifetimes – take the last three, in one lifetime, you would have had an unhappy marriage and decided that you will never marry again (in future lifetimes). You need to heal that marriage first, before you take steps to get married. May be this situation is temporary. Your parents when they were single they would have been rejected by two suitors. However, you are rejected by multiple suitors. One day you will find a suitor too, if this is the case. So to heal this situation, visualize your parents when they were single, and send Reiki to them with an intention, “Reiki flow through me and heal my parents when they were single and give a happy married life”. This also can be done by those who are happily married. Question – my parents lead a happy married life for more than 40 years. However, being their only daughter, I am divorced and didn’t have a happy married life. In general, your parents would have lived a happy married life. However, they might have had small conflicts now and then, which is common for any marriage. During one of those fights, your mother would have thought, “Why do I live with this guy? I wish I could divorce him and lead a life of single, which is trouble-free by all means”. This thought would have been picked by you and would have resulted in your marriage. It could have been due to your previous karma too. Interestingly, your sister might not pick that thought and will be leading a happy married life. From your perspective, you need to handle those negative thoughts of your mother as well as your marriages from the past. Take the last three and heal it. Heal the marriage of your ancestors –grandmother (paternal) and grandmother (maternal). Sometimes you may have memories of your aunts (from both sides). Heal their relationship too. Now, your decisions will be de-avoid of internal resistance and they will not be based on past karma as well as previous karma vasanas. I want to die before you… Mani Balakrishna ,Fairfax, Virginia, USA I heard these words from my wife, She was arguing with her father, a widower and who is staying with us. His son is living in US and so we offered to take care of his stay.I didn’t want to break into their fight as it would mean either I hurt the feelings of my wife or my father-in-law. While I was pondering over these words of my wife, the mantra NA HUM was playing in the CD. It means I am dead – meaning my ego is dead. I thought there is a divine message for me here. So I decided to shut my ego and not to interfere with the fight. After one hour while I was having my breakfast, my father-in-law approached me. My wife was silent standing next to him with guilt all over her face. He apologized for the quarrel happened in the morning, as it would have disturbed my morning Pranayama (yogic breathing) session. He said here afterwards he will make sure that such things never happen. My wife’s silence seems to be in total concurrence with him. I don’t have to say I am quite relived as I had avoided disasters – today and in the future too, from happening. Till today I do this without involving myself in any event. So they both agree that they can have a physical relation but they also agree that they will not be a couple, that they have no commitment and that there are ‘no strings attached’. They have their fun together, they kiss, they have a foreplay, they have sex and thus get physically as close as you can be to anybody. They repeat this, because they both enjoyed. Whenever there is the possibility and the need, from any of the both sides, they get together only for this purpose.

-Param Pujya Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar -Here , Swami Ji has dedicated this category to all entries about sex and sexual energy. Sex is a natural part of our lives and we have to accept it in this way. There is no reason to suppress our sexuality and our sexual desire. Swami Ji talks about the taboo that is made out of this topic while it is so much in everybody’s mind. Why can you not make your sexuality a normal part of life? Live it, don’t suppress it. -He also writes about sexual abuse, about cheating in relationships, about one-night stands and sexual adventures as well as about celibacy and why it is not a good concept. Handle your Expectations after having uncommitted Sex with a Friend In the past I wrote about expectations and disappointments. An area of life in which there are always problems with expectations is, how could it be else, the intimate relation of one human being and another. sex in its various stages, with all the steps that lead to it and everything that surrounds it, is somehow a magnet for problems with expectations and disappointments. I would like to write about a particular expectation today: the expectation of singles to have a relationship with everyone with whom they had sex. I have heard of this problem in various forms so many times that I believe it is something that a lot of people can relate to. The situation is the following: Two singles meet at some stage in life. They both are actually looking for their match, their soul mate, the love of their lives, the one with whom they want to spend the rest of time until they won’t be anymore. Everybody wants that, it is just natural. These two singles like each other but they also know that this doesn’t seem to be the one they were waiting for. It didn’t fully click. No, it just didn’t happen, they did not feel that special connection! There is some physical attraction though. This in itself is also no surprise – sex is after all just a natural urge.

Until that point, everything is well. The problems start later – mostly when a third person enters the scene! One of the two has this kind of relation not exclusively with one but with several persons. Or one of the two believes to have found his or her true partner, the one and only. This is the time when the other one suddenly feels there could have been something more than they had! There is a feeling of jealousy, of anger, of disappointment. If this person is now really honest with his feelings, he will realize that he had – even if unconsciously - developed an unjustified expectation, a hope that there could be more. Now that it is clear that the other one did not feel this way, he feels disappointed. I would say that the person was in most cases not even aware himself of the development of his own feelings and expectations. He or she did not know that he started growing this little feeling that is the hope of having found the one he was looking for. Unfortunately a lot of friendships end at this point because the one who feels disappointed cannot handle this feeling together with the friendship. The truth is that this feeling should never have existed and if he voices this, the other one will reply exactly this: ‘We agreed that we were not in a relationship! We said we could have fun with others, too, and would both keep on searching for a partner!’ It is understandable though that for a person who has already developed such an expectation, an attachment, this realization hurts. It hurts, it disappoints and unfortunately it often breaks the friendship. So if you are ever in this situation, if you had a sexual relation with someone and you have created an expectation, please realize that you were both on the same terms in the beginning and just because your feelings have changed, the other one’s haven’t necessarily, too. Try not to create trouble for yourself and the other one but instead do effort to keep your friendship. You may find someone else for another casual sexual relation – but a friend of long time is hard to find! To forgive a partner’s infidelity? In the past , I wrote about a woman who found out that her partner had cheated on her. I suggested that she should confront him with her knowledge. But what would happen then? If he accepted his fault and if he asked her to please forgive him, could they really fix their relationship? Is there a way to forgive and forget this kind of thing? My short answer would be: in general yes but it is extremely difficult.

not mean suppressing! Forgetting here means that you know it but it becomes less and less important so that you don’t keep on recalling it again and again. If you don’t forget, you will have problems like imagining your partner having sex with someone else while you want to get intimate with each other again. Maybe you would ask your partner again and again about that other man or woman. Doing this would not be fair if you both decided to start over new. If you decide to forgive the other one, to trust and to believe him or her that it won’t happen again, you need to let the past go. It won’t happen overnight. It is a process that can take years and even then, it is possible that the infidelity of your partner is still like a small scar on your skin, a little reminder of a bad time. If you want to try it together however, you have to have the will power to work through the emotional mess you are in, find the love that you have for each other and go through the presence into a future in which the past has been healed. Love is a strong plant and it can survive. But it needs much care and a good soil, trust, to grow on.

The reality is that the trust, which is in my eyes the base on which love can grow, was just destroyed. Imagine that love is a plant which grows in a pot full of earth. One day you just take away the pot of earth and leave the plant lying there, the roots in the air. The plant will start dying, losing flowers and leaves and if you are not quick enough, it will die and nothing on earth can revive it. In most cases, this is what happens because a breach of trust hurts very deeply. If there is however a last bit of earth, like the memory of the trust you once had, and if you act quickly, you can place this plant into a new pot and fill new earth into it. The plant has suffered, you cannot deny that, but if you take much care of it, it may start growing and blooming again. You have to have the chance to express your pain and hurt and the other one has to have a chance to regret and tell you about this feeling. In order to forgive, it obviously has to be very clear that whatever your partner had with anybody outside your relationship is over once and for all. He or she has to see clearly that it was a mistake, something to regret and never to do again. This honest commitment to be true to each other is the only point where you can start from if you want to forgive and forget. At this point I want to answer the question whether it is at all possible to forget. I think you have to. Only if you forget about it, only if you manage not to let this event disturb you anymore, you can come back to a normal relationship. Forgetting does Karma 56

If I have Sex with several People, it is Romance - if you do the same, it is cheating In the past, I wrote about gender equality and double standards for men and women. A lot of men told me in response that they did feel this way and although there were some women who denied that such a thought could ever enter their minds, there were several who admitted that I was right. Today I will write about an issue that will be even more difficult for people to accept: a lot of people, if not most of them, keep one standard for others and a fully different one when it comes to them and their own actions, thoughts and feelings! The clearest and nicest examples for different morals and values can be found again in the most intimate areas of life, when people’s sexual behavior is concerned. Let me give you an example. Let’s assume you are a participant in a seminar and next to you there is a man with whom you start a conversation. You get to know that you both stay in the same hotel and that you both are alone at the seminar. None of you is married, you are both singles. It suggests itself that you spend the evening together, too, so you go and have dinner together, a drink at the hotel bar and finally you sleep in the same room, in the same bed, having sex and really enjoying your weekend seminar. It is fine for you, it is fine for him, both of you know that you will probably not see each other again. Once the seminar is over, you both leave and go back to your home towns, back to your normal life. There is also someone whom you are attracted to, a friend of a friend and you think that he might be Mr. Right for you. You both try, spend a few weeks together but then decide that it won’t work out and break up.

This is only the back-story. It gets interesting the moment when you go to another seminar in the same town, just a few months later. You don’t meet that man again but the woman, who was in the same work group as both of you. Obviously you get together in the evening and remember that seminar, the evening and talk of this one man. You tell your new friend about the wild night you had with him – she looks at you in complete astonishment and tells you that she, too, has had sex with this man, about three or four weeks after you. This woman starts laughing and enjoys the situation but you are fuming inside! You are angry and you feel cheated, you feel used and disappointed. Your memory of that night, which was kind of special for you, is spoiled. If you have followed this scenario with your feelings and have tried to put yourself in this position, I want to ask you to take one step back now and become the observer of your own feelings. What just happened there? Why are you so angry? Your thought is: ‘So I am not special at all! He has sex with whoever he can get, whomever he meets at those seminars!’ and that is why you are angry with this man. Reconsider though: don’t you think that you are being unfair? You, too, had sex after your encounter with this man, so he could feel the same if he found out, couldn’t he? You both had a one-night-stand, you did not want a relationship then and you were aware of it that he did not want it either! You have created a movie on your own mind with your imagination and fantasy. It is fiction and not reality! Of course you are disappointed when that fictional story was crashed by the lady showing you an alternative ending – and telling you that this is reality! Now get back to reality, swallow down whatever anger or disappointment you had, tell your ego and pride that it will be fine and just go on. Once you have overcome the bitter realization that you were dreaming, you should be able to laugh about this! After all, you did the same thing. Again, just to make it clear, any recommendations made here are for both, men and women equally! This is something that happens to persons of both genders and above you can just read an example that makes it easier to imagine the situation. Don’t set the moral standards for another person higher than for yourself! If you think people should have only sex when they are going for a long-term relationship, then act like it and just don’t have sex with someone who is clear that he won’t marry you or have children with you. It is not fair to blame that person afterwards. Freedom and Tolerance when it comes to Sex I obviously received some comments on my past articles in OUR SPIRITUAL MAGAZINE KARMA when I have discussed my views about some sexual problems and its healing techniques and of course, some people did not agree. That is nothing new and nothing unusual or wrong. We all have different opinions and I just voice mine, too. You are free

to speak against it and I am free to just accept that you are against it but keep my opinion nevertheless. This is what I would like to write about today: the freedom of people to not only say what they want but also do what they want – as long as it does not harm others. Yes, we all have the freedom to do whatever we like. I would add: ‘as long as it is legal and does not harm anyone’. Some people don’t even regard these points while others add ‘as long as it is accepted by society’, ‘as long as it is in accordance with my religion’ or similar restrictions. The reality is however that while the law of a country limits us, we cannot limit others by our own moral standards. If you believe that one-night-stands are wrong, you don’t need to have them. If you think that having an ‘open relationship’, in which everybody can have sex with others, too, is immoral, you don’t need to live in such a relationship. There are people who believe homosexuality is morally wrong and there are people who think it is wrong for women to work at all. If you are one of them, you are free to think and believe this and you don’t need to be gay and you don’t need to work or marry a woman who has the wish to work. You cannot however limit other people’s freedom by telling them of your ideas of morality and what is right or wrong. While they will let you live the way that you live, you have to let them live their lives however they want to! You have absolutely no authority to interfere there and if you accept that, we all can live in bigger peace! In my opinion, when two people meet, get along well and decide to have sex, it should be fully fine for everybody, as long as they don’t have a partner whom they are thus cheating on! If they decide one week later or even on the next day that they want to have sex with a fully different person, it is their private matter – as long as they stay safe, wear a condom and don’t spread any diseases! If you don’t agree, that is fully fine. Keep it to yourself, don’t do anything yourself what you cannot do with clear conscience but also understand that other people have a fully clear conscience with doing all of this – and that you actually

don’t take any harm from this! So why are you opposing it? Of course everybody has a right to say what he wants, too. This is why you do have the right to say that you would not ever sleep with more than two people in a year or whatever your standard is. You need to take care however that your actions and also your words don’t harm those who believe differently. Voice your opinion while knowing that others have a right to disagree. Don’t be abusive, don’t get nasty. That is called tolerance and if you live in a democracy, if you believe in your freedom to do what you like and to keep your own morals, if you believe in freedom of speech, then you need tolerance and have to accept people who think different than you! Is your Husband’s watching Porn affecting your sexual Life? A few days ago we got an email from a woman who wanted my advice for a problem in her relationship. At least it was a problem for her but I don’t think her partner really saw it as a big issue: she caught him watching porn on the internet. Now she wanted to know what she should do. As I have previously met couples with this and similar questions, I decided to answer with a blog post. In a counseling session a woman once had the same question. She had married a man and when they moved together, she had found porn in his collection of movies. For her, this was obviously a dramatic event that made her see her husband in a fully different light. Well, she told me this, being shocked and shaken. I told her that she was really making too big of a deal out of it. She looked at me in surprise. I was kind in my words, so don’t worry, she did not feel as if I was disrespecting her feelings. I asked her what exactly was the very bad thing about the porn in his collection. Was their sex life not what she thought it would be? No, she was fully satisfied. I asked her if anything really had changed since she had found out. Again a no, thinking of it, everything was the same. But it was porn!!! I replied that I think there are hardly people, especially young men, living in the modern world with access to the internet who have never watched any porn. And that does not mean that all of these people are bad. Another woman once said in a counseling session that her partner had watched porn and now she was worrying in bed that she did not look like the women that he watched, which of course killed her enjoyment. I replied her that most women don’t and that men also don’t expect that. I believe most men really can make a difference between what they see there and their real relationship. And most of them would really not like to have a porn actress as a girlfriend! Seriously, I talked to her about her self-esteem and in a couple session about the feelings that she has for her body and what he feels about it. They were happy that they had talked about it and the woman admitted that they might even watch something together sometimes. Karma 58

I just want to tell everyone who has this kind of issue, talk with your partner about your feelings. Realize that your partner is still the same and that he is not a bad person because of watching porn from time to time. Porn addiction is obviously bad and you can get professional help if this is the case. Obviously I am also not talking about any movies that show anything illegal. We are talking about regular porn and as long as it does not become a must in your life, as long as your sexual life is fine, as long as there is love in between you, I don’t see why a sex movie could disturb that. I have written before about porn and mentioned that porn is when sex comes into the mind. In my opinion sex is a subject of the body and the soul, not of the mind. So go and talk to your partner, find out together if there is something he is missing in your relationship, if you could be more open for trying something different for example and clear the questions that are on your mind. In my eyes it is not however the end of the world or a reason for breaking up. Find out and once you and your partner have sex on a soul level, this will not be an issue anymore. Sex not for Pleasure, only for Reproduction ? I once knew a couple that lives here in India, both coming from the west. In my eyes they are misguided by a sect, in their opinion they have found their destiny here. One day I got to know that they are expecting a baby and with this news I also heard that they had been eagerly waiting for this confirmation that she is pregnant. You could say they have been trying to get pregnant the whole seven years of their marriage and that is the truth. At the same time however you would need to add that they only had sex three times in this whole time! So how does this fit together? In their philosophy, and I happen to know that their sect is not the only organization following this idea, you should only have sex to reproduce. Their belief is that they should only sleep with each other if you want to have a baby and not for your own enjoyment. Additionally to this belief that sexual intercourse is only for conceiving and not for actual pleasure, they believe that an astrologer can tell you the right day for conception. He will make a full analysis of the stars and counts

Religion and the Idea of Enjoying Sex I shortly wrote about that question whether you are supposed to have sex only for having a baby or if you are allowed to have sex for pleasure, too. I think I have made my stand pretty clear already. I don’t believe sex is something dirty or something that needs to be a taboo. It is natural. If you should have sex only for having a baby and not for pleasure, you are actually right to have sex only when a woman is fertile. So calculating the dates would not be bad idea, otherwise you run the risk of having sex for nothing at all, without any result. on which fertile day of the woman the signs of the stars are good. These days are pretty rare though – three of them in seven years. Twice they tried and it did not work. You can imagine their happiness when it worked out the third time. Of course it is always very happy news to hear about a new life that is coming to this earth. To hear this kind of story along with it however gives it a strange feeling. The first thing is that whatever your sexual activities are, they are private. If you go around and boast either with how much sex you have or also with how little, you are showing off. In one case you are showing off your sexual potential and in the other case you show off your commitment to the rules of your sect by pretending to be celibate whenever you don’t want to conceive. I actually don’t believe this story. Even if it was true, then why are you together? You are suppressing your body and your feelings. Why do you have the wish for a baby if you do not have the wish for having sex? Do you think sex is something dirty and forbidden? Why? These people claimed to be Krishna devotees but also Krishna always respected natural feeling and action! Really, again I have to ask everybody who believes in celibacy: how can sex be dirty or forbidden if it is the source of life? It is natural for animals and humans. Why would it only be allowed for making a baby? If it was such a bad thing to have sex, why did god not provide us with the possibility to have babies without having sex? I think it is a state of mental sickness if you let an astrologer dictate you when you can sleep with your husband or wife. Where does this sickness come from? From the manipulation of brainwashing sects. They want to have as much control over their members of possible. By controlling this strong basic instinct, they of course feel they are powerful. So should you ever be in a meeting with a group of people who want to tell you on what day and at what time you should have sex, it will be best to leave them as soon as possible and never return. Don’t get stuck in controlling sects. Enjoy your life and enjoy your private and intimate life with your partner, too. Live naturally and love each other, that’s it.

The question that I have now is whether you are allowed to enjoy the sex in that time or not? When you are making a baby, when you are trying to conceive, are you allowed to have fun? I can only guess that the answer is no. I imagine it to be as a duty then. It is your duty to reproduce. What a man has to do, he does, so when it is time, you get ready, do your duty and get done with it. No fun, no pleasure, only a result. I already mentioned that god gave us this possibility to reproduce. Why, if we are not supposed to have pleasure, did He make it such a pleasurable experience? I was told that in earlier times Christianity told people that this was temptation that God gave us to test if we commit this sin or not. You should have sex without pleasure and of course only with your wife. So you think God, almighty as He is, would not know that everyone of us would enjoy this experience? Do you think God would trick us into becoming sinners? For me this philosophy is too strange to believe in. In Hinduism and other religions as well as in many sects, this concept exists, too. People can show me scriptures in which somebody a long time ago wrote that sex should be had only for satisfying the urge of nature to reproduce and nothing else. I don’t care who wrote that and in what time. Most of those philosophers have lived hundreds and thousands of years ago, in another time, in other societies and maybe with a fully different thought in their mind than what you interpret into it. These people all were humans like you and me, thinking something and having their opinion. Today you and me think and write something down and maybe in a few hundred years someone will show it to their friends and say ‘See, here is written that we are all allowed to have sex and enjoy it!’ Just because it is old, does not mean it is the ultimate truth applying to all people on earth. I believe that God gave us the possibility to have sex and made it enjoyable, so why should we not enjoy it? Religion has always worked like a dictatorship, exploiting people, using fear to make them accept the rules without asking. The dictator makes the rules and you have no way to change them. Religion is a dictatorship with inflexible outdated laws. Religious people who want to be modern try to find a way to combine religion and science because one can survive without religion but not without science.

-Param Pujya Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar Swamiji’ Sri Selvam Siddhar’s Religion:-

various Quotations about

The Catholic Church does not want to give the healing benefit of their saints to people of other faith! They want to get as many followers themselves, so if you are sick, you will only be healed by a Catholic Saint if you are Catholic! Religion welcomes people with an option to only be partly religious. Take as much of it as you want: 20%, 40% or 60%. Hardly anybody will go with 100% but religion does not care, it wants to have you in any way. It is like sugar-coated poison, a drug that promises you a lot and you, carefully, take a bit and don’t notice how you are drawn into it even more. Don’t only talk to those who want to make you believe in their religion, talk to those who consciously decided not to believe. Make an experiment and see religion through the eyes of someone who has refused it. Believers should study their belief. Find out in depth what is written in scriptures and if you find things you don’t like, ask yourself if you can really blindly accept them as religion asks you to. Every Non-Believer is too stupid to understand Religion! – Really? Religious businessmen think that they can cheat God and his devotees, earn money from this sinful work and then bribe God to free them from that sin again. Religion gives you the a possibility to be forgiven anything! It is easy to cheat God and his believers on the name of religious tradition. Don’t you think that the basic reason for you to believe in religion, to follow a guru or to be a member of a sect is actually fear and even greed? Religion uses subtle manipulation to make you crazy. The fact that non-Hindus are not allowed in Hindu temples is racism in religion. You cannot convert to Hinduism without disregarding a basic Hindu concept. Karma 60

Devotees who sleep with their gurus actually got bored from just having normal sex and now enjoy making a new fantasy reality: having sex with a religious wrapper. Devotion to God and the joy of sex – double pleasure! Don’t let a religion take away your freedom or tell you what to do. Take your own responsibility, be tolerant with others, love those around you and be free. How should you be able to tell me about my dharma, about what I accept in my life? Everybody has his own dharma. Who are you to tell me about my way of life? Religion allows you to use your intelligence but only in a very limited way. You can never question the religion itself. Some people don’t want to accept that what they believe in is a religion. It is a sign of bad conscience because of religion’s control and manipulation. But calling it a ‘way of life’ does not change it! Religion teaches that you should not be completely happy. People are harder to control when they are happy and when they are not afraid. Another reason not to follow any religion – because you want to be happy, not afraid. It is impossible to be ‘religious but not superstitious’ because religious scriptures are full of superstition. You cannot separate superstition from religion, its origin. It as a positive sign though, if you think this much - you have taken the first step! You can turn Hinduism as you like, you can wish for whatever you want, heaven or liberation - it is flexible enough to grant you everything. Liberation or heaven? Hindu religion confuses people with its karma-philosophy! Wouldn’t it be best if we all could just be humans and not let religious leaders earn a lot of money through their manipulation? If you want to believe in the original form of Hinduism, you cannot convert to it. You are either Hindu-born or you are nonHindu. If you follow any Guru or sect, you are a member of a Hindu-based sector cult, not a Hindu! Everybody modifies religion to his comfort, gives his interpretation, creates his own tradition and opens his shop for selling god and religion.

Isn’t it strange that it is offending if a normal person shows his genitals in public while religious men get worldwide fame for it? ‘Sadhu’ or ‘Sanyasi’ means detached. Today’s Sadhu ridiculously contradicts his title with his display of gold and wealth! Virtues is like fictional money with which you can buy an entry ticket for heaven! A bath in the Ganges will wash away your sins -how practical! No matter how many sins you do, just go and wash them all off! Religion destroys the lives of children! The Kumbh Mela was created by war, corruption, cheating, greed and the wish for immortality. Religions tell women that they have to cover their heads and even faces with a veil or a burqa because men could get aroused by seeing their faces and imagining a vagina. A male-dominated religion and culture in India has not only raised girls in a way that makes them weak but also blames them for the crimes committed by men. Religion is the root problem of sex crimes against women. Many religions say that women can be beaten, can be used and even donated. Religion makes women inauspicious and depicts them as usable objects, as second-grade citizens who belong to men and should obey. Hinduism says: don’t die the wrong day or five family members will die, too! Religious belief and superstition can hurt the feelings of your friends. People have been inspired by religion to do extremely good deeds – but in the same way others have been inspired to do extremely bad things, too. The problem is the manipulation by religion and the lack of responsibility of the believers. Religion wants you to be and remain a victim. All kinds of suppression and exploitation works best when there is fear of some kind. Religion comes from fear and wants to keep you in fear. Religion practically teaches you to feel guilty for something that you have not done and which you really cannot influence in any way. Religion keeps people under control by creating a feeling of guilt and having sinned. That is why they always promote that you cannot be 100% happy with yourself and your life. There are people who are professional criminals and additionally religious and there are those who are professionally religious and additionally criminals.

Crime and Religion - why are they so close? Not every religious person is a criminal but many criminal people are religious. Religion started as a tool to explain the inexplicable. Religion’s starting Point: Fear - Religion’s Source of Income today: Fear Dharma is not religion. Dharma is the tasks that I want to do from my heart, not something that I have to do because I was born to Hindu parents. God lives in the heart and can come wherever you want. Temples and religious buildings are the centers of the business of religion where they see religious people as cows and milk them for money and donations, even by selling tickets. The more money you have, the quicker you can see God and the more blessings you get. Religion has lost its purpose. It has no future, the young generation is refusing it and it is slowly dying. Religion has created social structure - and now we have the ‘untouchable’ caste! Religion fools people and then forbids them to ask questions - so that they blindly believe what is written in scriptures and taught by religious preachers. The philosophy of reincarnation forces you to live in past or future. The importance of religion is getting less and less. Religion kills. Fasting can take the life of an unborn baby. People prefer making religious donations rather than charity donations to secure a seat in heaven by giving to a preacher or temple. Religious make-up and getup doesn’t make a person holy. There is proof in the scriptures that show that the caste system is deeply based in Hinduism. We need to change this religious belief in order to stop the caste system. Higher caste Hindus treats lower-caste people as humans of second grade and untouchable. But imagine you are born a lower-caste Hindu. Would you enjoy being a Hindu? Would you be proud and happy to be a member of this religion? Religion is imagination and interpretation but also wants to control. That is why people start turning away from religions. They are told which way to go but they want freedom! Let people believe what they wish to believe. Always choose freedom and love.

Religion creates feelings of guilt and fear leading to psychological problems. Criminals and people who do wrong live in fear of the consequences of their actions. Religion gives them a good way to find forgiveness. You only need to go to the temple regularly, tell a priest about what you have on your mind, pay some money, say some prayers and you are forgiven. Then you can go out to do the next crime. People embrace religion simply as a good way of doing wrong without a bad conscience. human worship in any religion and culture is always wrong. Priests and organizers are like agents. religion is their business and images of gurus and icons are their products. They have to sell something and get income to make their living and if they can attract people to buy at their tents by selling those pictures, it is fine for them. It is human worship and it is wrong.

Religion is entertainment for the rich and not necessary for the poor. You have to do ceremonies, go to the temple, give donations, that all costs money. Poor people think of food, only well-off people think of religion. Don’t you degrade your own religion if you need to use tricks to convert people? If your religion is really the best, wouldn’t people decide for it out of their free will and not because they are obliged to? It is stupid to try and make others believe what you believe. Never try to change anybody’s belief. Religious preaching is a performing art, not a divine act. This caste system is part of the Hindu religion and comes from religion. So the same religion that you admire and try to imitate is dividing people into higher and lower persons. Why would God want women to be worth less than men? If men can read a book that you consider holy, why would women not read it, too? Why is it a sign of impurity when they go through their cycle, the most natural process on earth which makes life possible? There is nothing wrong in believing in the good aspects of different religions. Female suppression is however one of those aspects that can happily be left behind. Gender equality and fairness is something that you don’t need a religion to teach you. We need to stop religion from spreading the superstition that there could be a ghost or spirit possessing a person. Karma 62

Corruption in religion is worst because the most corrupt people there show themselves as the purest of ideals that everyone else should follow. Where poverty is widespread, people believe more in religions. They are uneducated but they have hopes and dreams, based on God. Some gurus take advantage of their dreams and suck the little money that they have out of them. Let’s spread education so that they can really live their dreams. Isn’t it crazy how religion is often only a way to manipulate people? Just tell people often enough that something is God’s wish and they will believe it! Religion often has the effect of poison: it kills people, it separates them, it creates hate among them. Human is made by god and religion is made by man. God did not create people with different religions, he made us all the same. I always believe that anything that causes fear and makes people worried and afraid is not right. You should give people trust, faith, love and compassion. You cannot buy blessings with a donation to a temple. You cannot buy luck and a good destiny like rice on the market. You have to create it yourself! Religion is a firm and strict structure whereas spirituality is soft and flowing. Religion presses into clear and edgy shapes whereas spirituality makes round and soft. Religion comes from the mind and spirituality from the heart.

Black Magic/ Kala Jadoo/ Evil Spells Problems

Soolini Kavach” Maha Yagna to come out of Black magicKala Jadoo Voodoo, Evil Spells, Curses, Tantra problems, Evil eye,Ghosts and Spirits. Black magic is the negative use of energies and power by jealous and malicious human beings of Kaliyuga, whose main objective is to harm or deprive others from something, or influence them to do something wrong or negative. Black magic is the evil side of the celestial cycle or negative energies. Black Magic can be used to harm or hurt another person by performing certain acts even at a far away place – the effect of this technique can be experienced thousands of miles away. With increase of jealousy, frustration, greed, selfishness, negativity and inability to accept other’s happiness & growth, the use of Black magic has become the most common way to take out one’s vindictiveness and get an evil kind of satisfaction from the turmoil of others. This problem has intensified a lot in the last few years, and many are suffering all over the world, totally unaware of the attacks made by no other than their closest friends, acquaintances and relatives. Many prosperous and happy families are ruined by Black magic. Symptoms of Black Magic :Black magic puts a block on a person’s wisdom and intelligence and all efforts to solve the problem go fruitless. One feels a mental block, gets disturbed sleep with bad dreams, and negative thoughts. There is heaviness and weight on the heart and constriction in the throat. At times, there could suddenly be blue marks on thighs without getting hurt, or faster & erratic heartbeat and breathing without any physical exertion. There are quarrels in the family without any reason. One might feel the presence of somebody in the house. One feels one is not getting one’s due and can achieve much more. Black Magic not only affects the circumstances and future prospects of a person, but also deprives him materially of everything he was destined for, but also affects the psyche of the victim in such a way that one looses the will-power & mental energy to get out of the sinister situation one is in, and has no desire to live or rise in life. The effects of Black Magic become more chronic, dangerous and fatal with time, if untreated, like a horrible disease. Black Magic starts spreading like a contagious disease, affecting the person’s mind, brain, body, relationships, attitudes, work, money, marriage, career and everything in life. Breaking or reversing Black Magic Spell :Putting a Black magic spell on someone is very easy for those knowing even a little bit of Tantrik Siddhis / voodoo. But to remove the spell and eliminate it’s sinister effects needs lot of expertise, continuous & rigorous puja / worship and a combination Siddhis & Sadhana. Gurudev curses those doing Black Magic on innocent people and destroying their lives and happiness for years to come. ‘Soolini Raksha Kavach’ for Protection & Cure of Black Magic :‘Raksha’ is ‘Protection’ and ‘Kavach’ is ‘Shield’. ‘Raksha Kavach’ is the most powerful Talisman for protection and cure of Black magic. ‘Raksha Kavach’ eradicates all ill-effects of Black magic, Evil spells, Curses, Ghosts and Spirits. ISLAM- A GOOD RELEGION TOO -Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar

Freedom of Expression in Islam Islam greatly believes in freedom of expression. As such blasphemy in Islam is a subject of intellectual discussion rather than a subject of physical punishment. The concept of blasphemy is completely alien to the original teachings of Islam. Before the advent of Islam, difference of belief was also a punishable act. They used to punish on matters of belief just as on matters of social crime. This old practice is called religious persecution in history. Islam abolished this practice. The Prophet of Islam declared that personal belief is a subject of discussion and persuasion rather than of legal punishment. If you go through the Quran and Hadith (sayings and actions of the Prophet of Islam), the only two authentic sources of Islam, you will find that there is not a single Quranic verse or Hadith that gives this kind of injunction which says: “Man shatama nabiyakum faqtuluhu” (Kill the person who commits blasphemy against the Prophet). The Quran tells us that since ancient times God has sent prophets in succession to every town and every community. It says, moreover, that the contemporaries of all of these prophets adopted a negative attitude towards them. There are more than two hundred verses in the Quran which reveal that the contemporaries of the prophets repeatedly perpetrated the same act which is now called ‘blasphemy or abuse of the Prophet’ or ‘using abusive language about the Prophet’. Prophets down the ages have been mocked and abused by their contemporaries (36:30), some of the epithets cited in the Quran being “a liar” (40:24), “possessed” (15:6), “a fabricator” (16:101), “a foolish man” (7:66). The Quran mentions these words of abuse used by prophets’ contemporaries but nowhere does the Quran prescribe the punishment of lashes, or death or any other physical punishment. This clearly shows that ‘abuse of the Prophet’ is not a subject of punishment, but is rather a subject of peaceful admonishment. That is, one who is guilty of abusing the Prophet should not have corporal punishment meted out to him: he should rather be given sound arguments in order that his mind may be addressed. In other words, peaceful persuasion should be used to reform the person concerned rather than trying to punish him. Those who adopt a negative stance towards the Prophet will be judged by God, who knows the innermost recesses of their hearts. The responsibility of the believers is to observe the policy of avoidance, and, wishing well, convey the message of God to them in such a manner that their minds might be properly addressed.

Another important aspect of this matter is that at no point in the Quran is it stated that anyone who uses abusive language about the Prophet should be stopped from doing so, and in case he continues to do so he should be awarded severe punishment. On the contrary, the Quran commands the believer not to use abusive language directed against opponents: “But do not revile those [beings] whom they invoke instead of God, lest they, in their hostility, revile God and out of ignorance.” (6:108) This verse of the Quran makes it plain that it is not the task of the believers to establish “media watch” offices and hunt for anyone involved in acts of defamation of the Prophet, and then plan for their killing, whatever the cost. On the contrary, the Quran enjoins believers to sedulously refrain from indulging in such acts as may provoke people to retaliate by abusing Islam and the Prophet. This injunction of the Quran makes it clear that this responsibility devolves upon the believers, rather than on others. So others should not be held responsible and demands made for them to be punished. Looked at from this angle, the stance of present-day Muslims goes totally against the teachings of the Quran. Whenever anyone – in their judgment – commits an act of ‘abuse of the Prophet’, in speech or in writing, they instantly get provoked and their response is to start leading processions through the streets, which often turn violent, and then they demand that all those who insult the Prophet be beheaded. Muslims generally advocate the theory that freedom of expression is good, but that no one has the right to hurt the religious sentiments of others. This theory is quite illogical. Freedom is not a self-acquired right. It is God, who, because of His scheme of putting man to the test, has given man total freedom. Then the modern secular concept of freedom is that everyone is free provided he does not inflict physical harm upon others. In such a situation, the above kind of demand is tantamount to abolishing two things: firstly, to abolishing the divine scheme, and secondly, to abolishing the modern secular norm. Neither goal is achievable. So the hue and cry against the so-called abuse of the Prophet is simply untenable. By adopting this policy, Muslims can make themselves permanently negative but they cannot change the system of the world. There is a relevant Hadith in which the Prophet of Islam has said: Min husn islam al-mar tarkahu ma la yanih (A good Muslim is one who refrains from indulging in a practice that is not going to yield any positive result). This Hadith applies very aptly to the present situation of Muslims. They have been making a noise for a very long time against blasphemy, but it has been in vain. Muslims must know that they are not in a position to change the world, so they must change themselves. There will be two instant advantages of adopting this policy: they will save themselves from becoming victim of negative sentiments and will be able to devote their energies to constructive work.

Far from living blindly and artificially, we need to pause to reflect upon these core queries. These are the fundamental questions that confront us on the very threshold of consciousness and long for an effective solution. Let’s deal with these basic queries one by one. The very first query is: ‘Who are we?’ If someone is asked who he is, then you can hear an instant reply: “I am Mr. Paul” or “I am the son or brother of so and so” or “I am the relative of so and so.” However, all this constitutes your relative identity and not the true one. Today, you know yourself by your name, address, city, country, or through some relationship. And not for a single moment do you wake up towards your True Self! However, the fulfillment and completion of the goal of human life demands awareness of our True Self without any relational input of any kind. Scriptures call it the knowledge of Self. -Param Pujya Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar “Nothing is true in self-discovery unless it is true in your own experience. This is the only protection against the robot levels of the mind.” – Barry Long A cursory glance through our immediate surroundings will unmistakably convince us that ours is a variegated world with a fierce struggle raging in every facet of life. Majority is caught up in a lunatic race for cosmetically prolonging life span besides endeavouring to make life as pleasurable as possible. With most of us, this has come to be the prime objective of our earthly existence. It seems as if we are satisfied with mundane attainments and possessions, obviously out of ignorance of pearls of fathomless wisdom that lie in the inner realms of Ultimate Reality. We never think and try to probe into the Ultimate Reality; instead, we get riveted to the external phenomena only and feel satisfied with the deluding appearances. We never try to ponder over: ‘Who actually are we? Why have we come on this earth? What is that which is energising us? What is that which is propelling the whole of the creation around us?’ Enlightenment lies in knowing our true self, as is said: He who knows others is wise. He who knows himself is enlightened. - Lao Tzu That’s why, great saint Kabir advises us to reflect upon: O man! Who are you? From where have you come? What is the source of your origin? Why are you roaming around in delusion? Where will you go after leaving these mortal coils? Karma 66

RELATIVE IDENTIFICATIONS The recognition of a man with respect to name, form, relationship, etc. constitutes his relative identifications. These may be broadly classified into the following types: BODILY IDENTIFICATION We not only are deeply involved with our bodies but also err in developing identification solely with our bodies. We have cultivated the feeling of being merely bodies. Our philosophical world presents us a book called “The Philosophy of As-If.” Basically, we too follow the same philosophy. Completely oblivious of our Pure Consciousness, we behave as if we are bodies. Actually, a man possesses the nature of developing bonds with anything he derives pleasure from. He then, steered by the view that he can extract bounty of happiness while being associated with anything pleasurable, tries to be recognized by that only. That is why, considering our body to be the source of pleasure, we try to develop a sort of intimacy with it. Such recognitions delude us. For instance, after birth, there is a tradition of celebrating a naming ceremony and assigning a name to a newly born baby. Gradually, as that toddler grows up, he develops an intense identification with his name. Even though he is born nameless, the name then becomes so prestigious that he prefers giving up his life for the sake of his name. The same way, one even develops a sort of affection for his form. But remember! Even your form is not your True Self. How can it be your true identity when it keeps on changing constantly? Just try to reflect upon: ‘What was your form in childhood? And how did you look like in your mother’s womb?’ Of course, totally different from what you appear to be today. If all those pictures are somehow produced before you, you yourself may fail to recognize your own form. Our medical science reveals that the physical body changes entirely in 7 or 12 years’ period.

Nothing remains the same, not even a single cell. However, our True Self is both immutable and imperishable. So, how can this ephemeral body, which keeps on changing even while being alive, be our True Self? RELATIONAL IDENTIFICATION Following the same logic of ‘identification for pleasure’, a man tries to be known with respect to one or the other relationship. The parents begin to feel identified with their son, a sister with her brother, a wife with her husband, and vice versa. Most of the time, we see the parents living in their son. If the son succeeds, they too feel successful, and if the son achieves, they consider it to be their own achievement. Frankly speaking, whatever pleases us, directly or indirectly, we begin to develop attachment with it. So, if the son is successful in his life, the parents feel proud to be recognized through him. The very moment the same son turns rebellious or a criminal, the parents try to evade their acquaintance with him. Once there was an old man having two sons. One of them was a minister. Being proud of him, he always boasted of his position and became famous as the father of a minister. However, the old man never ever referred to his ordinary son. He never felt to be identified with his ordinary son. Once, in some tragic incidence, he lost his minister son. Son’s demise was so unbearable for the old man that he even started thinking of committing suicide. Upon being asked if his son had been a criminal, whether he would have felt the same, he pondered over and responded, “Perhaps, no!” So, it was not the death of his son which troubled him, rather it was the death of his own ambitions, his own identification. Hence, such is the delusion created by our worldly relationships. An identification born out of them exists as long as our relative is alive. The end of bonds with someone implies fading away of recognition gained through him. Reflecting upon all these pseudo identities of man, Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar used to say that man is just like a palace having many slaves. However, the owner, the master of the palace, has gone for an outing. He has been out for such a long time that now the slaves have completely forgotten him and are scuffling to adorn the master’s throne. Whenever someone passes by this splendid palace, stunned by its beauty, he is prompted to ask, “Whose mansion is this?” The slave prominent at that time turns up and instantly replies, “It belongs to me.” But if the same person passes by that palace at some other time, he can easily see someone else at the door claiming to be the owner. This way the whole of this human castle, being ruled by different slaves, the relative identities, at different intervals, is totally bewildered, as is said:

“No man, for any considerable period, can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude, without finally getting bewildered as to which may be the true.” (Nathaniel Hawthorne/The Scarlet Letter) Directly or indirectly, all these pseudo identities originate in one’s mind, making a man more and more complex. Mind has the tendency of perplexing you. It takes you far away from your True Self, as it drags you down to the state of being allured towards the external world. It obstructs your inner spiritual odyssey. Following the dictates of your tricky mind, the more you get enticed into the world, the farther you get from your True Self. If the remedy is not found soon, it can leave you in a permanent state of homesickness. Thus, our mind leads us astray. It takes us far away from the real track. It would be foolishness to consider it a conveyance or a passage towards our True Self. Mind proves to be the most unreliable entity in us. However, the majority of the world population today is surviving at the mental level. Their mental dependency demands the designing of such a methodology that through enlightenment can tune our mind with our true Self, i.e., Soul or Pure Consciousness, thus making the mind reliable. Such a methodology should involve amalgamation of our mind with Pure Consciousness. For, if the mind gets harmonized with the soul, then there is no need to suppress or condemn it. So, Dear aspirants, Mind it! Such a strategy is none other than True Knowledge, involving the direct perception of our true Self, the soul, the part and parcel of God. Thus, receiving True Knowledge or Divine Knowledge (Brahm Gyan) by the benedictory grace of a Perfect Master, we can acquaint and harmonize our body, mind, and intellect with our true Self.

develops only through past experience. Even if you have heard from your family or friends that someone or something is trustworthy, you will not fully trust that person or thing unless you have a good experience yourself.

Trust In God

-Param Pujya Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar Someone asked me a question Question: How does one connect completely with God, Divine, etc? How does one develop that 100%, no doubts type of faith, trust and belief in the Divine? How can one lose all fear? How does on develop deep trust in anyone or anything? Only through one’s previous experiences. If a wife trusts her husband, if a child trusts his parents, if a sister trusts her brother, if a student trusts his guru or teacher, or if you trust your friend, what is the origin or cause of this trust? It is obtained from previous instances where the person concerned has always been there, and has always helped us out of difficult situations. The same is true when we trust our doctor, lawyer, astrologer, financial consultant, etc. If a doctor has cured us and our family in the past, or if our lawyer has helped us win a difficult legal case, we trust them, and keep going back to them when the need arises. We know that they will always bail us out, when we are in trouble. We know that our parents will provide us with money, advice, encouragement, and emotional support, when the need arises. We cannot trust an unknown person, because we don’t have any knowledge about him, and we have no past experience to go by. Trust

Now, let us come to the specific question of developing a hundred percent trust in God. There are two problems with this. The first problem arises because we don’t know who or what is God. The second problem arises because we don’t know ourselves. Two unknowns cannot make a known. Even if we were to know ourselves---which is much easier than knowing God----that still leaves us with the problem of who or what is God? What we know of God is only what others have told us and what we have read. We don’t have any direct experience of God. Most religions work with the concept that because there is creation, there must be a creator, whom we call God. And since He is the creator, He knows everything, he is all powerful, he controls everything and He is the only one who can save us. In effect, when we say “trust in God a hundred percent”, we are telling people to trust in an unknown entity, whom for all practical purposes; no one has seen, heard or felt. As we discussed earlier, trust needs a previous personal experience and since we don’t have any personal experience of this entity called God, we find it difficult to trust God to the tune of a hundred percent. Knowing the two problems that prevent us from trusting God a hundred percent, what can we do? It is possible to know God only through our self. So, we must first embark on an inner journey to find out who we are, through prayer, introspection and meditation. As and when we find for sure who we are--the true entity hiding behind our race, religion, caste, name, position, our economic and educational qualifications, our emotions, our likes and dislikes, our thoughts and feelings.we are ready to embark on the journey to find God. Now, we have a torch with which to search in the darkness. Without selfknowledge, we are like blind men searching for something that is lost. Self-knowledge is the flame which will guide us in this darkness. Where this journey will take us, how long it will take, whether we will find God---all these questions cannot be answered and will again have to be individual experiences. If I say that I have found God, it is of no use to you, because what I can transfer to you will still be hearsay knowledge, second hand knowledge which is of no use to you, as you cannot trust second hand knowledge. This is the main roadblock or hurdle with what our religions or enlightened men tell us---what they say is the truth, but their truth is not easily transferrable. So, find yourself and then with that knowing and understanding embark on the journey to find God or truth. And it is only then, when we get personal understanding and knowing about God that trust can develop. Otherwise, we can keep on saying that we trust God, but the moment a problem comes, God is forgotten, and we are as miserable as ever.
