Studio ProjectsACADEMICS COMPETITIONS 2017-2022

Project AASHRAYA embodies the soul of the urban poor who is the backbone of our society. People, typically from a rural background who enter urban/ metropolitan regions in the hope of seeking opportunities end up in chaos and a housing crisis.

While the whole country stays indoors during the lockdown, such a situation is not possible in the case of informal settlements.

The space required for social distancing is the only amount of space, they dwell in. With a constant increase in population, physical barriers become a necessity at times of not just an epidemic but any outbreak. This project gives an insight into solutions and steps that can be taken toward tackling these problems.

Tianducheng is one of the many suburbs in China that resemble faraway places and include copies of foreign historical landmarks. Rapid urbanization has resulted in the shrinking of natural water bodies and an increasingly frag mented natural water system in this area, where a rich history dealing with water and a close relationship with water are well-known.

This proposal is designed, depending on the very special circumstances of elderly breaking away from routine who do not commute often, to create a feeling of warmth by strengthening cultural ties to represent coherence that architecture in populated Chinese cities doesn’t possess.
