Pannawonica Community News Clean up Day in Pannawonica

Rio Tinto and the Shire of Ashburton supported Pannawonica Community members in Clean up Australia Day. The National clean up event kicked off at the Pannawonica Sporting Club for a pre meet and event planning on Sunday 3 March 2013. Pannawonica community members set up two teams of volunteers with specific areas to target a major clean up. Mel Gallanagh, a resident of Pannawonica for 9 years said she enjoyed being a part of such a valuable community event and particularly enjoyed being a part of tidying up the famous Pannawonica “boot tree”. Clean up Australia Day is an initiative of the Clean up Australia Campaign. It is held on the first Sunday of March every year, and encourages people to clean up their local areas. In 2012 approximately 1,177 tonnes of rubbish was removed from all across Western Australia. The Pannawonica Clean UP Australia Day concluded with a welldeserved morning tea courtesy of Rio Tinto.
