DC offers a robust cultural and nightlife scene, and is an ideal city to host Gay Bowl: Hundreds of top-rated bars and restaurants - and dozens of neighborhoods to explore like U Street, Shaw, 14th Street, etc. The National Mall, Historical Monuments and Memorials, the White House, the US Capitol, and Arlington National Cemetery. World-class theatre, music, and cultural institutions like the Kennedy Center, the National Theater, and the Smithsonian. The Notorious RBG (a.k.a. United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg). Dozens of gay bars and clubs – many of which are eager to host us as part of our social calendar throughout the tournament. Oh, and we’re the gayest city in America. (NY Times 11/15/13) (So there’s that. )

The DC Gay Flag Football League (DCGFFL) seeks to foster an athletic community among LGBT and straight people living in the greater Washington, DC area. After 15 years of pickup games, the DCGFFL launched its inaugural season in September 2010 with seven teams. In its tenth season (Spring 2015), the league has grown to 20 teams of more than 300 men and women, in addition to a larger community of supporters. DCGFFL is proud to support four travel teams, including our women’s travel team, the DC Senators.

In the autumn, the sweltering summer is gone, taking with it most of the high-season tourists. All that's left are crisp breezes and changing leaves, which, by the way, look great against all those marble monuments.” – U.S. News “October is often one of Washington’s finest months of fair weather… It also can be a really dry month.” – The Washington Post In short, DC is primed to host Gay Bowl in early October. $10,000 Gay Bowl “Pay It Forward” Fund Each Gay Bowl committee gets the opportunity to improve upon the last tournament. The DCGFFL proposes the creation of a $10,000 “Pay It Forward Fund” to be given to the next tournament host. Yes, we want to raise an extra $10,000 and give it to another city. We know firsthand the real challenge each Gay Bowl host city faces, especially around fundraising. Early funds are needed to secure host locations and permits. We believe each future Gay Bowl would benefit from a fund that would be replenished year after year. We want to have this be part of the legacy of DC hosting Gay Bowl XVI – and we believe it will strengthen future NGFFL tournaments.
