Welcome Letter from the President Dear Sacred Heart Greenwich community, It is with great joy that I welcome you to this edition of Horizons, our annual magazine celebrating the vitality, vision, and shared purpose of Sacred Heart Greenwich.

As we continue advancing the priorities of Pursuing Excellence, our strategic plan, I am reminded that the work of a Sacred Heart education has always been about formation and transformation. Our mission is not simply to prepare students for the future, but to educate the whole child—to nurture young women of faith, leadership, and service.

Throughout this issue, you will see formation and transformation in so many ways.

You will read about retreat experiences that invite students to deepen their relationship with God and one another. You will learn how service learning calls students to connect faith with action and to grow in understanding of justice, human dignity, and their responsibility to the wider world. You will discover how faculty immersion experiences— including journeys along the Camino de Santiago and to Lourdes—strengthen our connection to the Sacred Heart mission and enrich the life of the classroom.

You will see the intellectual curiosity that strengthens our academics—evident in classrooms, laboratories, studios, and fields—and is affirmed through our recent NEASC accreditation process. And you will read about the parents, faculty, staff, and volunteers whose generosity and partnership advance the life of our School.

As President, I want to express my deep gratitude to our Board of Trustees. Their service is grounded in commitment, discernment, and a shared responsibility for the mission we steward together. Board service requires time, judgment, and a deep belief in what Sacred Heart Greenwich is called to be. It is work that often happens behind the scenes, yet it is essential to the strength and future of our School. I am continually grateful for the wisdom, generosity, and steady leadership our Trustees bring to this responsibility.

The Society of the Sacred Heart reminds us that trustees are called to serve as stewards—ensuring the continuity of mission, the integrity of the educational experience, and the long-term sustainability of the School. Few have embodied that responsibility more fully than Lynne.

Since joining the Sacred Heart Greenwich community in 2008 and the Board of Trustees in 2018, Lynne has served for eight years as Vice Chair and has helped guide the School through a period of extraordinary momentum. Working alongside three Board Chairs, she has supported key institutional priorities, including Pursuing Excellence, enrollment growth, and long-term strategic planning.

Lynne brings clarity, steadiness, and a deep commitment to the mission in every conversation. Beyond her leadership, she and her family have demonstrated remarkable generosity, supporting initiatives across campus, including the Lower Campus, the Newman Golf Putting and Chipping Green, the Fund for Sacred Heart, and the Senior Parent Gift, as well as the establishment of a Director of Financial Leadership position.

Her impact is lasting. Lynne’s leadership has strengthened Sacred Heart Greenwich in ways that will benefit generations of students.

Pursuing Excellence: Advancing Our Vision

s we complete the third year of our five-year strategic plan, Pursuing Excellence has given us not only direction but also momentum. We are encouraged by the progress taking shape across every aspect of school life. What began as a vision centered on six Pathways to Excellence—Faith; Leadership & Service; Student Success; Women in STEM; Arts & Media; Campus Revitalization; and Endowment Growth— continues to shape meaningful opportunities for our students, educators, and community.

The year was highlighted by a pair of significant milestones: a Andrew and Anna Worden, Carolyn and Mo Cunniffe, and Michael Baber $20 million commitment from Mo and Carolyn Dursi Cunniffe ’58, and a $15 million commitment from Andrew and Anna Worden P’37.

These represent the two largest gifts in Sacred Heart Greenwich’s history. These transformational Scan the QR code investments advance the vision of Pursuing Excellence and are helping bring to life a new STEM center— to learn more. an ambitious project that reflects our commitment to empowering young women to lead in STEM fields while creating dynamic spaces for innovation, collaboration, and discovery. More than a building, the center represents an investment in people, programs, and places, ensuring that Sacred Heart Greenwich continues to provide an exceptional educational experience for generations to come.

As we look ahead to the final years of Pursuing Excellence, we remain energized by what has been accomplished and are inspired by what lies ahead. We are grateful to the many families, alumnae, faculty, staff, trustees, and friends whose partnership and generosity sustain the advancement of this work. Together, we are building on a strong foundation and ensuring that Sacred Heart Greenwich remains vibrant, faithful, and forward-looking for generations to come.

Reflecting on Excellence: The NEASC Accreditation Journey

A

t Sacred Heart Greenwich, growth is a constant. While our students are busy mastering the classroom, the School itself recently engaged in a profound period of introspection: the decennial accreditation process through the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

Far from a mere checklist, the NEASC review is a collaborative “checkup” that ensures our institution continues to meet the highest standards of independent education. This multiyear journey began with a comprehensive Self-Study, a process that brought together educators and trustees to examine every facet of our community—from the strength of our K–12 curriculum to the sustainability of our 110-acre King Street campus.

Kevin Bailey, Associate Head of School for Teaching and Learning, sees this process as a celebration of the School’s “cohesive curricular arc.” Reflecting on the review, Mr. Bailey notes that the most rewarding part was seeing our mission in action: “Core academic coursework is essential, but so is the time spent in the robotics lab, the Chapel, or working on a sustainability project.

The NEASC process really highlighted how we recognize that student growth isn’t just a series of milestones—it’s a continuous, 12-year journey of educating the whole girl.”

This period of self-reflection arrived at a pivotal moment, dovetailing perfectly with our current strategic plan, Pursuing Excellence. As we evaluated our internal goals, the NEASC framework provided an objective lens through which to view our progress. It challenged us to ask: How are we evolving to meet the needs of tomorrow’s leaders while staying rooted in our mission?

The highlight of the process was the arrival of the NEASC Visiting Committee. For several days, this group of peer educators immersed themselves in our culture during two visits to Campus, first in October and then again in April. They sat in on Harkness table discussions, toured our state-of-the-art broadcast studios, and spoke with students. Their observations serve as a powerful validation of the “Sacred Heart difference”—the unique blend of academic rigor and spiritual depth that defines our graduates.

The resulting report celebrates our school’s vibrant community and provides a road map for the decade ahead. It affirms that Sacred Heart Greenwich isn’t just maintaining the status quo; we are actively setting the standard.

Goal I: Faith Growing Together: Retreats That Connect Students to God and One Another

A

mid the busy rhythm of the school year, Sacred Heart Greenwich retreat days invite students to do what the word retreat itself suggests: step away from the demands of daily life.

Classes pause as students are invited to tend to their spiritual lives and deepen their relationship with God and their classmates. This intentional space—where reflection is encouraged and the spirit is free to work—stands as a distinctive element of the Sacred Heart Greenwich experience and lays the foundation for a quiet, lasting impact on students’ lives.

“Retreats create space to listen, to reflect, and to recognize God already at work within us,” explains Ms. Marian Campana, Director of Campus Ministry. “These moments of pause are not an interruption to learning; they are essential to forming young women who know who they are and how they are called to live.”

Beginning in second grade, each student steps into an annual retreat designed to nurture both individual faith and collective community. Retreats engage students in reflection and prayer while also fostering connection through community-building activities and opportunities to pray and share with one another.

From the very start, students discover that faith is both lived and shared. The second grade family retreat introduces this tradition as girls prepare for their First Communion. While parents gather in the Chapel with school leaders and clergy, students engage in a retreat experience led

by Upper School mentors. The afternoon concludes with a family liturgy. For second graders, it is their first experience with a practice that will grow into a cherished tradition throughout their years at Sacred Heart Greenwich.

As students grow, so too does the depth of their retreats. This fall, fifth grade students spent their retreat outdoors on the campus’s 110-plus acres, reflecting on God’s love revealed in creation. Inspired by the spirit of St. Francis, students moved between prayer and hands-on experiences—journaling in the outdoor classroom, praying at the Rosary stations on the front lawn, practicing Espacio in

—Ms. Marian Campana, Director of Campus Ministry the outdoor interfaith Chapel, and even visiting the chicken coop to spend time with the hens. Through these experiences, the girls encountered faith in action— individually and as a community—learning to care for God’s creations and embrace their role as stewards of the Earth’s resources, connecting spiritual growth to active, informed citizenship.

In the Upper School, retreats offer extended, overnight opportunities for self-reflection and honest conversation, including the beloved Kairos retreat during Junior year. For many students, Kairos becomes a defining moment—an experience of vulnerability, trust, and profound connection with classmates and God. Kairos proved to be a transformative experience for Aidan Kobata ’26. Inspired by the senior leaders who guided her retreat, Aidan chose to become a Kairos Leader herself during her Senior year.

Aidan says that the Kairos leaders “showed me what it looked like to be present, compassionate, and genuinely invested in someone else’s growth. I remember how supported I felt because of them, and I wanted to offer that same comfort and guidance to the Junior class.”

For Aidan, Kairos reflects Sacred Heart Greenwich’s lasting commitment to nurturing students’ spiritual lives. “The

Kairos retreat has an ability to connect someone to God and His love,” she explains. “Through bonding with your peers, you are not only reminded how loved you are, but also that God is with you through every turn.”

The Senior class retreat at the Quinipet Retreat Center on Shelter Island, New York, marks both a culmination and a beginning.

Through small group dialogue, personal reflection, and a class liturgy, Seniors pause to consider who they have become and who they are called to be, shaping a sense of community and purpose for their final year.

Sacred Heart Greenwich’s retreat program affirms that spiritual formation is a lifelong journey—one that begins in community and unfolds over time. As Janet Erskine Stuart, RSCJ, reminds us: “Our education is not meant to turn the students out small and finished, but seriously begun on a wide basis.” As they launch from Sacred Heart Greenwich into the wider world, students leave Sacred Heart Greenwich not with an ending, but with a beginning—prepared to continue deepening their faith, purpose, and sense of belonging wherever they are called next.

Goal II: Intellect Thinking Beyond the Answer: How Artificial Intelligence Is Shaping Learning

A

rtificial intelligence is introducing new opportunities and challenges in education. At Sacred Heart Greenwich, educators approach this moment with both curiosity and care, not only responding to change but leading through it with intention, guided by a dynamic curriculum rooted in strong pedagogy, current research, and thoughtful reflection.

Across classrooms, Sacred Heart Greenwich educators bring learning to life through a rich range of teaching strategies that nurture both intellectual growth and personal development. As AI tools become more accessible, the focus of learning has shifted in meaningful ways. When answers are easy to find, the deeper work lies in understanding how those answers are formed. This moment sparks greater reflection, analysis, and curiosity— hallmarks of Sacred Heart Greenwich’s enduring commitment to intellectual excellence.

With tools like ChatGPT now widely available, educators emphasize process over product. Students are asked to explain their reasoning, revise drafts, and evaluate ideas rather than simply generate them. Assignments are increasingly designed to make the students’ thinking process visible—in this way, learning becomes more authentic, intentional, and deeply human.

This work calls for clarity and thoughtful design. Sacred Heart Greenwich educators teach students how AI supports learning— and when it replaces it—and why that distinction matters. Used thoughtfully, AI has the potential to deepen understanding and increase efficiency, but only when applied with purpose rather than as a shortcut. As Mr. Karl Haeseler, Director of Educational Technology and Upper School Computer Teacher, observes: “We’ve found that when students are taught how to use AI responsibly, they tend to rise to the occasion. They’re more thoughtful about how it supports their learning rather than doing the work for them.”

Students learn not only how to use AI, but also when and why to use it, and how to question what it produces. Clear expectations and shared guidelines ensure fairness while keeping learning firmly at the center.

To remain current with this rapidly evolving landscape, Sacred Heart Greenwich educators participated in professional development sessions led by AI industry expert Eric Hudson. A facilitator and strategic adviser, Mr. Hudson supports schools

in making sense of these changes in education. Guided by Mr. Hudson, educators explored both the opportunities and ethical responsibilities that accompany AI, reinforcing the importance of critical thinking and thoughtful oversight. AI is a powerful tool— but not an infallible one—and a system of checks and balances remains essential.

After extensive research, Sacred Heart Greenwich selected two educational AI platforms—MagicSchool and Flint—to support this work. Each serves a distinct purpose across grade levels and was chosen for its strong safety, privacy, and content controls; teacher oversight; and alignment with the School’s mission-driven values.

One platform supports educators in planning and instruction, while the other guides students through learning and practice.

Some educators have incorporated AI into lessons in clearly defined ways. Dr. David Smigen-Rothkopf, an Upper School English Teacher, introduces AI during College Prep workshops, offering students exposure while establishing clear guardrails. “My goal is for students to reflect honestly on both the positives and negatives of the technology, without compromising their own voices in the process of becoming better writers,” he shares.

At Sacred Heart Greenwich, educators are committed to leading thoughtfully in this space—not simply adopting new tools, but teaching students to use them with discernment and purpose. Faculty members focus on building foundational AI literacy and examining where these systems can fail, particularly by highlighting the risks of bias and misinformation. They intentionally guide students to understand when AI is most useful and where its limits lie, ensuring students are prepared to navigate the changing world around them and contribute to it responsibly in college and beyond. By integrating conversations about ethics, authorship, transparency, and accountability into our classrooms, the School encourages students to approach AI as a thinking partner—using it to enhance human creativity and critical thinking, not replace it. Above all, the School remains dedicated to preserving education as a deeply human-centered experience. In an ever-changing AI landscape, Sacred Heart Greenwich continues to assess its role carefully, ensuring it serves our students with integrity, intention, and care.

Dr. Bill Mottolese Dr. Bill Mottolese, a Sacred Heart Greenwich Upper School English Teacher, embraces AI creatively and purposefully in his classroom. In Senior Seminar, Dr. Mottolese’s students use AI to brainstorm counterarguments during the writing process. For vocabulary assignments, he employs a “red/yellow/green light” system to clarify appropriate AI use. As Dr. Mottolese explains: “AI writing, even at its best, is often generic, shallow, and formulaic—stylistically unlike student writing. Writing is as distinct as a person’s fingerprint. Developing one’s own voice, style, and expression takes time, commitment, and perseverance. Only authentic engagement leads to real growth as a writer.”

The Power of Scientific Discovery

S

TEM education is not confined to a laboratory, a robotics competition, or a computer science classroom. It begins with a question.

What if plastic could be made from biodegradable materials? How can technology solve a real-world problem?

What happens when scientific research leads somewhere unexpected?

This year, students pursued questions like these and earned recognition at the state and national levels for their work in scientific research, engineering, computer science, robotics, and innovation.

Among the year’s accomplishments, Sacred Heart Greenwich students were recognized through the National Center for Women & Information Technology’s Aspirations in Computing Awards, the Carnegie Mellon University Computer Science Challenge, the Connecticut Science & Engineering Fair, the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge, the Regeneron Science Talent Search, and the Connecticut Invention Convention. Students also received additional recognition through NCWIT for achievements in computing.

These accomplishments represent far more than awards. Behind each recognition are hours of research, experimentation, problem-solving, and perseverance. Students learn that discovery rarely follows a straight path— experiments fail, designs are revised, and ideas evolve. The process becomes as important as the outcome.

That spirit of inquiry extends beyond traditional laboratory spaces. Across Sacred Heart Greenwich’s 110-acre campus, students use the natural environment as a living laboratory— observing ecosystems, collecting data, and studying environmental change through direct investigation. From garden-based learning to environmental science projects, they connect scientific concepts to the world they can see and measure.

That same curiosity is evident across all divisions, where students conduct original scientific research, participate

An all-girls environment provides students with the opportunity to pursue these interests in a setting where their voices, ideas, and leadership are encouraged. in robotics competitions, and engage in engineering and computer science projects that challenge them to think in new and creative ways. Through these experiences, students learn not only to consume scientific information but also to create— by asking meaningful questions, analyzing evidence, and contributing original ideas to their field of study. The result is a culture where girls see themselves as scientists, researchers, engineers, coders, inventors, and innovators.

That confidence matters. While women continue to make significant contributions across STEM fields, they remain underrepresented in many areas of science

As interest and achievement in STEM continue to grow, Sacred Heart Greenwich is planning for the future through the development of a new STEM Building that will expand opportunities for scientific research, innovation, and hands-on learning. This investment will be accompanied by additional faculty expertise and the continued development of innovative programs that reflect emerging fields in science and technology. Guided by the Sacred Heart mission, these investments are designed to cultivate ethical innovators, purposeful problem-solvers, and scientific leaders who use their expertise in the service of the common good. More importantly, it will deepen and support what is already happening every day across campus: girls asking questions, solving problems, and discovering what is possible.

Because at Sacred Heart Greenwich, STEM education is ultimately about more than science or technology. It is about cultivating the curiosity, confidence, and courage to pursue discovery, contribute meaningful scientific research, and shape the future.

Innovation and Recognition Ninth grader Paige Creegan ’29 was awarded the prestigious Lockheed Martin High School Innovator Award at this year’s Connecticut Invention Convention State Finals for her project titled Color, Code, & Control: Helping Medical Professionals Visualize the Endocrine Function of the Pancreas. This distinguished honor recognizes the most exceptional student inventor in grades 9–12 who demonstrates outstanding innovation, creativity, and problem-solving skills in STEM. Paige’s invention is a controlled Paige Creegan ’29 presenting her project at simulation that models the endocrine Invention Convention function of the human pancreas. Using Arduino programming and electronics, she developed a working system that demonstrates how the pancreas regulates blood glucose levels through the release of hormones. Designed as an educational tool, the simulation has potential applications in medical and healthcare training by helping students and professionals visualize complex physiological processes in an interactive and engaging way.

This remarkable achievement reflects Paige’s dedication, ingenuity, and passion for scientific innovation.

Upper School students Stephanie Galvez ’29 and Bonnie Ukperaj ’29 were recognized as Top 300 Junior Innovators in the 2025 Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge (JIC), a program of the Society for Science. This prestigious honor placed them among just 300 students selected from 1,890 entrants across the United States.

For their project, Stephanie and Bonnie, along with Mia Cartagena ’29, designed and tested bioplastics made from watermelon rinds, evaluating their strength, flexibility, and biodegradability as a sustainable alternative to conventional plastics.

Students Explore the Arts at Every Grade Level

rom early education through Upper School, the Arts are woven into daily life at Sacred Heart Greenwich. Student artwork, ranging from drawing and painting to advanced photography, reflects a program that values creativity, discipline, and self-expression at every stage of development.

Students engage in a wide variety of visual and performing arts, including theatre, music, chorus, dance, bell choir, painting, and drawing, with opportunities designed to accommodate both emerging interests and advanced study. The Arts also intersect naturally with academic coursework, as teachers collaborate across disciplines to deepen learning and encourage students to make meaningful connections between creative expression and intellectual inquiry.

Throughout the year, students’ artistry is shared through performances, exhibitions, and displays across campus, transforming Sacred Heart Greenwich into a living gallery and performance space.

These moments celebrate individual talent while strengthening community, inviting students of all ages to learn from one another and to find their voice through the Arts. Highlights include:

Arts Showcase Organized by The Arts Collective, a student-run advisory board dedicated to promoting the Arts, the annual Student Showcase is a vibrant evening featuring visual art displays alongside live performances including piano, vocal, and dance presentations.

All-School Art Show Each spring, Sacred Heart Greenwich hosts an AllSchool Art Show showcasing work by students from the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools. Displayed throughout the campus, the exhibition features a wide range of media and themes—from landscapes and portraits to ceramics and printmaking—and includes portfolio work by Seniors and Advanced Placement Art students, representing the culmination of their artistic journeys.

ArtBEAT Magazine ArtBEAT is a quarterly digital magazine celebrating students’ work in both the visual and performing arts, capturing the creativity, dedication, and energy they bring to artistic expression throughout the year.

Theatre Productions Students at every level have opportunities to grow as performing artists through coursework and school productions. The Upper School presents a fall play and winter musical, the Middle School stages a winter musical and a spring play in collaboration with Brunswick School, and the Lower School presents two spring musical performances.

Winter and Spring Concerts Middle and Upper School musicians, including members of orchestras, bell choirs, dance groups, and vocal ensembles, share their talents during the much-anticipated Christmas and Spring Concerts.

Arts Immersion Trips Upper School performing artists can participate in choir, bell choir, and dance during biennial Arts Immersion trips that combine cultural exploration with performance opportunities. In March, students traveled to Italy to visit a fellow Sacred Heart Network school and performed in historic churches. Past destinations have included Austria, France, England, Ireland, and Spain.

Pathways to the Arts College Fair

Student Voices, Real Journalism, Lasting Impact Founded in 1975, the King Street Chronicle (KSC) is Sacred Heart Greenwich’s student-run digital newspaper that has earned recognition as an nine-time consecutive award winner from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. More than a school publication, the KSC serves as a platform for students to explore meaningful stories, amplify student voices, and practice real-world journalism.

Similarly, Sacred Heart Greenwich’s student-run art and literature magazine, Perspectives, received national recognition for its 2024–25 issue, In the Water. The publication was named a REALM (Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines) First Class magazine by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and received the prestigious “All-American with Five Marks of Distinction” honor from the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA), the organization’s highest rating.

Sacred Heart Greenwich also leads the region in helping students explore collegiate opportunities in the Arts through its annual Pathways to the Arts College Fair. Open to students from across the area, the event brings together institutions such as Rhode Island School of Design, Pratt Institute, Parsons School of Design, The New School, Tufts University, Emory University, and the School of Visual Arts to share pathways and possibilities for pursuing the Arts in college and beyond.

2025–2026 Eucharistic Ministers Each September, the Sacred Heart Greenwich community gathers in joyful tradition for the Mass of the Holy Spirit, a cherished celebration that marks the beginning of a new school year. This special liturgy unites students, faculty, staff, parents, alumnae, and friends in gratitude for the many blessings we share, and in prayer for the Holy Spirit’s guidance, wisdom, and love in the year ahead.

A highlight of this year’s celebration was Bishop Frank J. Caggiano’s commissioning of our Seniors as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.

Twenty-four Seniors were inducted into this esteemed ministry, embracing their role as leaders who will distribute Communion during school liturgies and serve as visible witnesses of Goal I: Faith for our entire Sacred Heart Greenwich community.

hat does it mean to educate for justice in today’s world? At Sacred Heart Greenwich, the answer is found not only in what students learn, but in how they engage with others.

Service learning is a defining part of that experience, shaping students into informed, compassionate, and active citizens. Rooted in Goal III, the School fosters civic engagement at the local, national, and global levels, empowering students to work for justice through service and advocacy. This year, Sacred Heart Greenwich deepened that commitment by creating a new leadership role and appointing Mr. Michael Maida as Director of Service Learning.

This position reflects a renewed focus on intentional, mission-driven service learning. Mr. Maida describes his role as one that “sits at the intersection of academics, mission, and community partnership,” ensuring that service learning is fully integrated into the life of the School.

Taking a comprehensive K–12 approach, he works across divisions, faculty, and programs to ensure that service is not experienced as a series of one-time events, but as a cohesive and evolving journey.

The goal is clear: to deepen relationships— with one another and with community partners—and to create sustained, meaningful opportunities for engagement and reflection.

Grounded in Catholic Social Teaching and the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart education, this work challenges students to see beyond themselves and engage with the world in meaningful ways. “Goal III makes a Sacred Heart education distinctive by insisting that education carries moral responsibility,” Mr. Maida notes. Here, success is measured not only by academic achievement but by a student’s willingness to respond to the needs of others with competence, compassion, and courage.

This commitment comes to life through both local partnerships and global experiences. Across all divisions, students participate in developmentally appropriate service that emphasizes dignity and connection. First graders write letters to veterans, while third graders help load the Meals on Main Street food truck. Middle School students prepare meals that Upper School students deliver to unhoused individuals through the Midnight Run program. Student-athletes partner with Special Olympians, building relationships grounded in teamwork and mutual respect.

In classrooms, service is often integrated into academic work, such as when students share language and culture with residents at a local senior living community.

These experiences are not about completing hours—they are about building understanding. Students learn to listen, to engage, and to recognize the humanity in every person they encounter. Through consistent, relationship-based service, they begin to see themselves as part of something larger than themselves.

Immersion programs extend this learning even further. Whether working with ARISE along the U.S.–Mexico border, visiting Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, or participating in the Lourdes pilgrimage in France, students encounter communities that broaden their perspectives and deepen their sense of global responsibility.

These experiences challenge assumptions, foster empathy, and invite students to reflect on issues of justice, identity, and human dignity.

Immersed in Learning Faculty Beyond the Classroom

A

t Sacred Heart Greenwich, formation does not end when the school year does. In fact, summer opens new paths, inviting educators to carry the work of the school year into the wider world.

Over the past 12 months, faculty stepped beyond campus and into two transformative immersion experiences: walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain and journeying to France to stand in Joigny, the birthplace of St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, and in Paris, home of the world’s first Sacred Heart school.

These journeys reflect a direct investment in mission. As a Network school, Sacred Heart Greenwich commits to educating the whole person and forming women of faith, intellect, and service. Faculty immersion makes that call tangible. Associate Head of School for Student Life, Mrs. Jennifer Bensen, explains: “Educator immersion allows educators to live our mission firsthand. These experiences deepen educators’ understanding of Sacred Heart’s global identity. Immersion moves our mission from theory into lived experience.”

In June 2025, five educators— Sra. Montserrat Garcia, Ms. Ellyn Stewart, Mrs. Jennifer Bensen, Ms. Cynthia Mansfield, and Mr. Michael Maida—set out on the Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of St. James. For more than a millennium, pilgrims have followed this sacred route to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, where tradition holds that the remains of Saint James the Great are buried. Beginning in León and walking from village to village, our faculty followed yellow arrows and scallop shell markers across forests, farmland, and medieval towns. They stayed in small inns and pilgrim hostels, shared simple meals with travelers from around the world, and settled into the steady rhythm of pilgrimage: walk, rest, reflect, repeat.

“Walking the Camino became one of the most meaningful experiences of my life, both personally and as a Sacred Heart Greenwich educator,” Mrs. Bensen reflects. “With each step, it became far more than a pilgrimage; it was a profound reminder of why we do this

work and how deeply we are connected through our shared mission of forming young women with courage, compassion, and faith.”

Last June, ten educators, led by Mr. Michael F. Baber, traveled to France to step directly into our mission. Their eightday journey began in Joigny at the Sophie Barat Centre, birthplace of our foundress, St. Madeleine Sophie Barat. They walked through Sophie’s garden, climbed the vineyards above her home, and attended Mass at St. Thibault Church, where Sophie was baptized—encountering the living spirit of courage that transformed girls’ education. “Visiting Joigny firsthand deepened our commitment to the Sacred Heart mission and strengthened the bonds among us as educators,” says Ms. Elizabeth Villar, Barat Center Teacher.

“The journey also offered each of us meaningful moments for reflection and personal growth—it was a living expression of every goal and criterion of our mission.”

Their journey concluded in Paris, where educators visited the Musée Rodin, once home to the first Sacred Heart boarding school and convent.

For educators, immersion deepens cultural competency, expands global awareness, nurtures spiritual growth, and renews vocation. Sacred Heart Greenwich’s Strategic Plan calls the School to form globally competent leaders and strengthen relationships across the Network and local communities. Through immersion, educators build professional connections across divisions and departments, strengthen Network ties, model lifelong learning, and bring our founding story vividly into the classroom. These experiences are not simply enriching—they are essential to who we are.

When educators return transformed, their classrooms expand. Lessons carry new depth. Stories become personal.

t Sacred Heart Greenwich, community is not simply something that happens—it is something families actively build together. Many describe the School as feeling like a family, a sentiment shared across divisions and generations of alumnae and parents alike. That sense of belonging does not happen by accident; it is cultivated through relationships, shared traditions, and the willingness of families to dedicate their time. The Parents’ Association (PA) embodies that spirit: parents who care deeply about the experience of every student and generously share their time, energy, and talents to enrich the life of the School.

The PA plays a central role in making that culture possible.

Rooted in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart education, the committee unites parents in a shared commitment to the School’s mission. Parents contribute not only their support, but also their time, talents, and leadership—working together to strengthen the environment that surrounds every student.

Across campus, that commitment takes many forms. Parent volunteers organize gatherings that help families form lasting relationships, support initiatives that enhance the student experience, and partner closely with faculty and administrators to ensure the School continues to thrive. Beloved traditions such as Class Coffees, Homecoming, Fall Festival, and grade-level gatherings create opportunities for connection. Together, these efforts reflect a parent community deeply invested in the mission of Sacred Heart Greenwich.

“One of the great joys of my role is witnessing the Parents’ Association in action,” says Mr. Thomas McCarthy, Director of Advancement. “Their dedication brings Goal IV to life— strengthening relationships across the School while supporting the growth of our faculty and programs.”

The Parents’ Association is guided by a volunteer board of leaders, event chairs, and class representatives who work in close partnership with School leadership. Their efforts are thoughtful, collaborative, and rooted in service—hallmarks of the Sacred Heart tradition.

For Mrs. Trish Muccia ’90 (91st Street), P’25, ’26, ’28, President of the Parents’ Association for the 2025–2026 school year, the role has offered a unique vantage point on the generosity of the parent community.

O

n any afternoon in the theatre classrooms at Sacred Heart Greenwich, one can feel it—the hum of imagination sparking. Here, students learn more than how to project a line or find their light. They learn to listen deeply, trust one another, and take creative risks with open hearts. Through rehearsals, design projects, improvisation, and long tech weeks, they come to understand that theatre is both craft and community. The stage becomes a place where courage is practiced, confidence is earned, and collaboration becomes second nature.

In recent years, that foundation has carried several alumnae onto some of the country’s most competitive stages. For three consecutive years, Sacred Heart Greenwich alumnae have continued their training in B.F.A. programs at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, widely regarded as a global leader in drama education. Zoe Young ’22, Molly Kriskey ’23, and Ila David ’24 each entered a different professional studio within Tisch, bringing with them the discipline, artistry, and ensemble spirit first nurtured on King Street.

At Tisch’s Atlantic Acting School, Zoe immersed herself in a studio production of Antigone, wrestling with complex text, deep character work, and the weight of history.

“What struck me most was how a story from ancient Greece remains relevant today— exploring justice, corruption, and the complexities of humanity,” she reflects. As a Senior, she spent a semester in London studying Shakespeare at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), describing it as “an incredible opportunity to train at a renowned institution for classical acting.”

This spring, Zoe—now performing under the stage name Zoe Sage—stepped onto a new stage entirely: Broadway. She joined the year-two cast of the Olivier Award–winning Stranger Things: The First Shadow at the Marquis Theatre, making her Broadway debut as Sue Anderson. Yet when asked where her love of theatre sparked from, Zoe does not hesitate. “A huge shout-out to the Sacred Heart Greenwich theatre program led

by Ms. Gorman,” she says. “That’s where I discovered the true understanding of what ‘ensemble’ really means. Art requires community—we bring stories to life together.” Zoe recalls marathon tech weeks preparing for performances with affection: exhausted cast and crew laughing, building something far bigger than themselves. “These intense moments are one of the main reasons I love what I do.”

At Tisch’s Stella Adler Studio of Acting, Molly Kriskey has embraced both performance and production. She played Feste in Twelfth Night and produced a new work that’s slated for off-Broadway.

One of her most meaningful projects was Year of the Goat, which she co-created and performed over several years. “I love having the chance to tell important stories with people I admire and respect,” she shares. For Molly, the throughline is clear: “Working with people you love and learning from them is a gift—and it creates incredible art. I had that at Sacred Heart

Greenwich, and it set me up perfectly for art school and for life.” This fall, Molly will follow in Zoe’s footsteps at RADA. Meanwhile, at Tisch’s New Studio on Broadway, Ila David’s first year focused on production rather than performance. She took on multiple crew roles for Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella and Carrie, including wardrobe, spot operator cover, light board cover, and sound. “I’ve learned so much and had an absolute blast,” Ila says, crediting Sacred Heart Greenwich’s advanced theatre and design coursework for preparing her to thrive behind the scenes. Building on that foundation, she spent the summer writing and producing NYU Presidential Welcome Reality Show, a musical about the lives of NYU students performed during orientation week at Radio City Music Hall.

Ms. Michaela Gorman ’05, Upper School Theatre Teacher and Director of Upper School Theatrical Productions, sees that legacy unfolding with pride. “Zoe, Molly, and Ila embody the program’s core tenets in a powerful way. They are thoughtful, community-centered theatre artists who bring leadership, dedication, and vision

to their work.” Watching her students step into professional training—and now professional stages—is a joy. Ms. Gorman shares, “It is an honor to have been part of their journeys and to celebrate their successes in the performing arts.”

As Zoe looks ahead, she carries her time on the Sacred Heart stage with her.

“Coming from Sacred Heart Greenwich, I’m proud to represent my school in this field,” she says. “The theatre program shaped who I am. I carry those lessons with me— and I hope to inspire future students to follow their artistic passions.”

Charting Progress

Sailing Team’s Spring Training in Miami Under the bright skies and shifting winds of Biscayne Bay, the Sailing Team spent a dynamic week building skills, resilience, and teamwork. Designed as both a spring training experience and an opportunity to connect with fellow students across the Sacred Heart Network, the trip fostered meaningful growth on and off the water while deepening students’ sense of belonging within the global Sacred Heart community.

A defining aspect of the trip was the opportunity to train alongside students from Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart. From the outset, sailors balanced rigorous training sessions with recovery and team bonding. Challenging conditions— including strong winds and variable seas—added an extra layer of difficulty, pushing the team to refine their boat handling, sail trim, race strategy, and communication. Throughout the trip, structured drills such as slalom courses and start sequence practices sharpened both technical skills and mental focus.

Equally impactful were the experiences off the water. A morning in South Beach, highlighted by a walk along the shoreline and an afternoon of kayaking and paddleboarding alongside students from Carrollton, fostered connection and cross-training.

By the end of the trip, the team emerged stronger, more confident, and more unified—well prepared for the season ahead and enriched by the relationships and shared experiences that define a Sacred Heart education.

After a remarkable career defined by dedication, mentorship, and an unwavering commitment to student-athletes, Coach Sarah Hill is retiring from Sacred Heart Greenwich.

Over 49 years, she built an athletics program grounded not only in competitive excellence but also in character, resilience, and teamwork. As a coach in field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse, she shaped generations of students, helping them grow as athletes and as young women while instilling lessons that extended far beyond the field.

Known for her steady leadership and deep care for each player, Coach Hill leaves a lasting legacy that will continue to shape the Sacred Heart Greenwich community for years to come. In recognition of her extraordinary contributions, the West Gym has been renamed Hill Court, a lasting tribute to a coach whose influence will be felt by every student who steps onto its floor.

S

anford is widely recognized as a transformative leader in the technology industry. Over a distinguished four-decade career at IBM, she played a critical role in driving innovation and guiding large-scale organizational change. As Senior Vice President of Enterprise Transformation, she applied her expertise in operations research to reshape key business processes, helping IBM adapt and thrive in a rapidly evolving global marketplace.

A pioneer in advancing women in technology, Sanford has long championed diversity as essential to innovation and business success.

She served as executive sponsor of the steering committee for Women in Technology International (WITI), supporting initiatives to inspire and educate young women pursuing careers in STEM. In 1996, she was inducted into the WITI Hall of Fame, and in 1997, she was elected to the National Academy of Engineering for her contributions to computer product development. From 1999 through 2001, she was named by Fortune as one of the most powerful women in American business.

Sanford earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from St. John’s University and a master’s degree in operations research from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Following her retirement from IBM in 2014, she has continued to lend her expertise through board service, including roles with ConEd. “I am honored to address the graduating class of 2026 at Sacred Heart Greenwich,” Sanford says. “Expanding opportunities for women in technology and tackling complex challenges has been a driving force throughout my career. I look forward to sharing my experiences with these talented young women as they take their next steps toward leadership and impact.”

Linda Sanford Shares Advice with the Class of 2026 Thank you, President Baber and Board of Trustees. Good afternoon to the Senior graduating class of 2026 and all your family and friends attending today. I am so honored to be here with you all.

I had the opportunity to meet our graduates back in April at a special celebration when Mr. Baber announced the class valedictorians and salutatorian. After our get-together, I walked away so impressed by every single one of you.

Sacred Heart Greenwich continues to focus on the spiritual, intellectual, moral, and social formation of each and every one of you. I saw this and felt this in my interaction with you.

So, never let go of what you learned here at Sacred Heart Greenwich. Lead with heart and act with purpose. Take it with you as you now enter the next important stepping stone of your life.

Over the course of nearly four decades at IBM, I had the opportunity to help lead innovation and transformation during times of significant change. I learned many lessons about leadership, resilience, solving difficult problems, and embracing change rather than fearing it. I was fortunate to work across engineering, sales, and strategy, helping organizations adapt and evolve in an increasingly complex and technologydriven world.

Throughout my career, I also became a strong advocate for advancing women in technology because I believe innovation is strongest when everyone has a seat at the table.

Today, while I have retired from IBM, I remain deeply connected to leadership, service, and education, and I am especially grateful to be part of the Sacred Heart Greenwich community as the grandparent of a current Middle School student.

As I look back on my life and career, I realize it was the lessons I learned early on that informed what I did and how I did it. So I thought I would share four key lessons that shaped me most. And while lessons in technology or business were important—the most fundamental ones were about people: listening, building strong teams, valuing different perspectives, and understanding that innovation happens when talented people come together with courage and purpose.

So what are my lessons learned?

First, listen. While engaging with others—be it in the classroom, in your job, or in your home—we often are thinking about our own personal point of view, which is important.

But we also need to listen to what the others are sharing. And when we do that, we take the best of everyone’s thinking—where one plus one is greater than two. I found that “walking the hall,” as I describe it, happens anywhere you interact with others, giving you so much valuable information that helps to bring teams together to tackle any and every problem or challenge successfully.

Sacred Heart Greenwich has a culture and a set of values that not only encourage but that actually draw out what makes you, as an individual, so special—who you are and what makes you tick.

Second, it’s okay to make a mistake. But only if you learn from it! Here again, my parents, my teachers, and my colleagues all encouraged me to “think outside the box.” Try new approaches.

So often, we fear that we have to work within certain boundaries, especially early on in our lives. But we each bring a “new set of eyes” to the situation that could open up new avenues to pursue.

And, of course, you may hit a bump in the road along the way, but don’t let that stop you from moving forward. However, before you move forward, you need to step back to understand the “root cause of that problem”—what happened and, most importantly, why—and make the adjustments you need to prevent that problem from recurring. Then, move forward with grit and determination.

Third, but perhaps most important, be yourself. Your authentic and unique self. Sacred Heart Greenwich has a culture and a set of values that not only encourage but that actually draw out what makes you, as an individual, so special—who you are and what makes you tick. Every one of you has a background, a set of skills, passions, and beliefs that make you who you are. If we were all the same, we might as well be robots. Coming from a career in technology, I do believe technology can drive innovation; however, even more important today, the world needs us all to work together, bringing our unique insights to the table in a way that enables us to draw on the best of everyone’s thinking. By applying your unique talents and expertise to our world, you will leave a legacy that will carry on for generations to come.

Fourth, embrace innovation. It’s very valuable to have a specialty, an expertise in a discipline that you enjoy and feel passionate about. But that also needs to be coupled with a hunger to keep learning, to keep innovating, because the skills you will need in five years will quite likely be much different from what they are today. When I first started down my career path, shifts in the world were gradual, moving from electric typewriters to Watson AI supercomputers. A big one might come along every decade or so.

Now, it’s constant. The world and technology are changing faster and faster. In today’s world, if you resist change, you very quickly become obsolete. If you embrace change, you survive. If you initiate change, you lead. So, it’s best to be “agile.”

Class of 2026, remember my four points: Listen, challenge yourself and do not fear mistakes, be your authentic self, and embrace innovation. You are the future leaders. These skills, along with your Sacred Heart education, will prepare you not only for successful careers but also to lead with courage, compassion, and purpose in an ever-changing world.

I am truly honored and thankful to be with you all today. Again, my congratulations on your special day. I have no doubt that each of you will be successful as you continue on this next step in your life.

Erin Manning ’13, Chief of Staff at Sesame Workshop, and Kate Benjamin ’11, Founder of Great Point Design Company, shared insights from their careers in the industry. They reflected on how Sacred Heart Greenwich’s filmmaking program provided a strong foundation for their professional journeys, encouraging them to engage with communities and tell meaningful stories. Both also spoke candidly about navigating life after college, emphasizing that career paths are often nonlinear and shaped by exploration and growth. 1962 Members of the class of 1962 gathered twice this year, first in March when Anne Harris Majic came from Canada, and again in August during Sandy Steinthal Powell’s visit. Pam Wall Madden writes that it is “always fun to catch up as we age.”

1965 Stephanie Beaudouin Piper writes, “The Class of ’65 celebrated our 60th reunion with an outstanding turnout! Liz Betts Leckie, Anne-Margaret Buell Baum, Susie Craig Conroy, Joyce Garvey Bray, Heather Megaw Murphy, Frannie Jani Neville, Patty Powers Woodlock, and Michele Rees Finn enjoyed a wonderful day in Greenwich. 1967 Mary Francina Golden sends a picture of her 2-year-old grandson, Evan! His mother, her oldest daughter, Brianne, is an anesthesiologist at NYU Langone. Mary Francina feels fortunate that they live five blocks from her and her husband, Ken. She also

shared that her younger daughter, Kolbe, recently moved to New Orleans—while she misses her, she is thrilled that she loves it there! Kolbe is an actress like her mother, and the two have performed in many shows together.

Pamela Esposito has recently concluded a rewarding career in biotechnology and is now enjoying life at home full time with her four children in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Her oldest daughter, Juliet, is attending the University of Notre Dame through the U.S. Navy ROTC program. Although Juliet did not live near a Sacred Heart school growing up, Pamela is delighted that she has formed close friendships with several Sacred Heart graduates during her time at Notre Dame.

Edyta Zych Weighart and her family recently relocated to New Hampshire, where she now serves as Associate Director of Alumni Relations & Events at High Mowing School, an accredited Waldorf day and boarding school. Her daughter, Victoria, is in sixth grade and her son, Alexander, is in third grade at High Mowing. The entire family is enjoying their new school community.

Ashton Abbot and her husband, Evan Uhlick, welcomed a daughter to their family on November 1, 2025. Cabot Abbot Uhlick was born in New York City and, gratefully, timed her arrival in the small window between Halloween and Marathon Sunday. Cabot is happy and healthy and joins her brother, Wesley, at their family home on Long Island’s North Shore.

2005 Emily Rubin Garcia has co-founded Hold My Juice, a family-tech startup inspired by a simple question: What if parenting came with a little more built-in headspace?

The team is developing an approachable AI assistant designed to help families manage the everyday logistics that quietly accumulate—schedules, communications, and planning. Their goal is to ease the mental load so home life feels calmer, more balanced, and more joyful. Emily and her co-founder are currently conducting research interviews and beta testing ahead of a broader launch in 2026.

Madeleine Sullivan Loehr, her husband, Dave, and siblings Kelly and Louise welcomed John Benjamin (“JB”) Loehr on September 16, 2025. He weighed 10 pounds, 11 ounces, and measured 22 inches at birth. Madeleine also shared her gratitude for the strong turnout from the Class of 2005 at the recent reunion!

Hilary Hebrank Dolce married Scott Dolce of Lattingtown, Long Island, in November 2025. The couple wed at Hilary’s alma mater, Fordham University Church, followed by a reception at the iconic New York Botanical Garden. Hilary recently cofounded ClauseIt Inc. with Elexa Koblentz.

It’s a legal technology startup focused on modernizing shared living through statespecific roommate, cohabitation, and joint ownership agreements.

Kerry is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Yale Medicine, who specializes in craniofacial surgery and pediatric plastic surgery.

2008 Cassidy Mara married Max Dillan on Saturday, June 13, 2026, in New York City.

The couple met at Fordham Law School and now reside in Manhattan, where they are both attorneys.

2009 Bridget Shouvlin and husband, Chris, welcomed Georgia Catherine Murphy on July 19, 2025. The family currently resides in Rye, New York. Bridget also enjoyed returning to Sacred Heart Greenwich this winter as a sixth grade English Leave Replacement Teacher.

Emma Ward was married in October 2025 to her husband, David Schwartz. The couple celebrated at the New York Athletic Club in New York City, and classmate Mary Bridget Shouvlin was Emma’s maid of honor.
